Following what purports to be breakfast, the prisoners are once again lined up prior to being led out to their tasks for their day. Oh great spinner of webs, weaver of darkness, help me choose
The construct has to be lowered in the basket by himself, due to his larger size and heavier weight. Once down on the cavern floor, he walks easily in the darkness, apparently able to see perfectly well in the dark. Although he looks strong because of his metal frame and limbs, he carries the same amount of rocks as the rest of the group, moving with mechanical precision. Moving about the other prisoners on the rock detail are able to see that on the side of his chest, under his left arm, is an engraved symbol. Some sort of identification mark consisting of a series of vertical lines of varying width. As the metal man worked, the softly glowing gem in the center of his chest begins glowing, becoming brighter and brighter until it sheds bright, golden light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet. (Light)
Ront continues checking the clothes he is supposed to be washing, looking for anything that might be interesting or useful. He is surprised when he finds a key in a hidden pocket of an old cloak. And to think, he had almost passed it by, thinking it was too shabby to have any real treasures! Looking around cautiously at the guards, the orc will look for an opportunity to hide it with the small gem that he had lifted yesterday, tucked into a small makeshift pocket in the torn hem of his pants. Later, when they were alone, or if the guard for some reason left them unsupervised by the waterfall, he would check to see if the key fit the lock of his manacles...
When the construct is assigned to their group, Topsy watches the metal man curiously to the basket and then as they work. When she notices the crystal beginning to glow, she trips over her own feet and almost falls. "Watch it!" Turvy growls at her in Gnomish. She lowers her head in response, but still steals glimpses throughout their work time.
After over hearing the conversation Sebastian puts down his empty bowl and gets in the right mid set to do some rock moving/stacking. Once he notices the metals man's light he moves closer to him while carrying a rock. "So my metal friend, and please remind me of your name? you can use magic? How interesting! I used to wish I could use magic. It always seemed that it would be useful, especially given our current situation." he says in a light playful tone.
Sarith once being assigned his job moves quickly out of the cell and away from the drow guard. He spends the rest of the day keeping his head down and trying his best to avoid the drow located in the complex as best as he can.
The construct looks at Sebastian. After a moment of stillness, it replies in a monotone voice. "I am 6. I do not know of your 'magic.' Why ask if I use it?"
"Well 6 it is great to get to know you." Sebastian takes a moment to stare over 6. "Magic on the other hand, is the common term among my people for what you are doing." gesturing towards the light. "It's a skill not many possess or take the time to learn."
After another day of what for some were meaningless tasks and for others merely repetitious, and for Sarith messy and smelly, the prisoners are once again fed dinner and locked in the cell.
In the middle of the night, when all is quiet in the drow caverns and there are no guards nearby, Ront will fish the new-found key from his pants and try it in the lock to their cell...

Fish the new-found key from his pants and try it in the lock to their cell...
Ront moves 4 quietly, oh so quietly, to the cage door and inserts the key. It turns and there is the slightest click, Ront quickly looks around at the sound but not a single person moves or stirs in their sleep.
"I can get out of here now,"he thinks to himself. "But can I make it out of here on my own? Doubtful. There are too many drow, and I'm still bound with these chains. Damn it all..." He locks the door back, hides the key again, and moves back into the cave. He'll look over the rest of the slaves, calculating who could be of value and who could be used as a distraction. Who would aid and who would disrupt his plan...He'd have to quietly talk with some of the others and form a plan...
The next morning, when their meager bowls of food arrive, he approaches Topsy and Turvey and sits next to them. As they eat, he whispers to the svirfneblin pair, "Do you wanna get outta here? I found a key that unlocks the door to our cage. Need a plan to get outta these chains and escape. Can we trust that gnome Jimjar? Saw him talking to da guard yesterday..."
Watching the normally reclusive orc strike up conversation with the other prisoners, Eldrik watches with some interest but doesn't act on anything. As he finishes his breakfast, he makes his way to the quaggoth sitting in the corner playing with a large hairy spider. "you're a big fella aren't you?" not quite sure whether he is referring to the spider or the quaggoth.
"How long have you been here?" he enquires.
The quaggoth glances up, grunts and looks back down. Eldrik shrugs and smiles, wandering off ready for another day.
The next morning, when the Kuo-toa begins its gentle chanting, Topsy joins in soon after it beings, singing a little harmony line in a soothing, quiet voice — not loudly, but with enough volume to tweak an ear or two. Turvy gives the female a baleful look, but does not stop her.
When he orc approaches the pair after they sit down with their breakfast bowls, however, the male deep gnome looks as if he is going to explode. He stands and growls something to her in Gnomish, but she growls back, also in Gnomish.
Translation from Gnomish:
"Get up! Don't let this surface dweller get you into trouble!"
"Stop telling me what to do! We need to get out of here. We don't have much more time. We need to try!"
There is a pause where the two glare at each other, then Topsy turns to Ront. Turvy drops to the floor and begins slurping down his breakfast a little ways away, but not too far, from Topsy.
"Of course we want to get out of here," she whispers. "Where did you find a key? Does it not work on the chains?" She looks around at the other prisoners. "I don't know any of the others. My brother ... " She trails off, appearing to think better of what she was going to say, and doesn't continue.
Ront rolls his eyes at the deep gnome. "Ya think I'd still be here if opened the manacles?" he whispers back, loud enough for half the room to hear. (Orcs aren't very good at subtlety, after all...)
"Look, there's a lot of us in here. Some are good in a fight or figuring out how to get past things. Some are good to distract the guards as bait. Which are you?"
Topsy looks both offended and contemplative. "My brother and I are musicians, but we know how to protect ourselves." She looks around, even giving her brother a quick glance, before leaning in close and whispering, "I have a crossbow bolt, and my brother has a metal bar that we could use as weapons."

Ready to move on.
Jimjar sees Eldrik hearing the message as well, and looks at him knowingly as the guard walks away.

"Right you're stacking rocks" the guard says to 6 of 8 "over there with that lot" pointing to Topsy, Turvey and Jimjar.
Again the prisoner's tasks are as meaningless and as demeaning as the Drow can make them. However while Eldrick and Ront are on laundry duty …

What Ront finds
In a secret pocket in the lining of the cloak, Ront finds a key

Despite Ront's best efforts including some muttered curses under his breath the key does not fit the lock of his manacles.

(He will keep it anyways! There's a lock somewhere that it will open! =)
