Tales from Talaveroth

Si'Juul narrows his eyes for a moment then draws his pepperbox, reaching out to slowly push the door open, gun pointed inside.

"Someone get a light."

 Poinki lights a torch and nervously pokes it in the doorway as Si'Juul opens the door.

Poinki's torch light reveals a dusty front room. A stack of dishes is beside a wash basin, undone and beginning to mold. A bookshelf that appears to be missing about half its books stands in the corner next to an armchair and a fireplace. The kitchen table is covered with what appear to be most of the books.

Everyone make perception checks please.

Looking in and around and under things Poinki can see that whatever happened it doesn't look like the owner left in a hurry or was forced to leave. Things are placed more than thrown. Except for the books, the books are scattered and even torn in a few places.

Elhanna look in as well from the back and at the same time cast detect evil and good to make sure there aren’t anything inside. 

Elhanna is too distracted by what her spell reveals to look around properly. Right before she walks through the door of the hut her magic reaches out and brings back the stench of undeath, two signatures, coming from the other stone structure.

Si'Juul takes a longer look at the books and notices a pattern. They're all open to the end, like someone has been flipping through each one looking for something.

Si'Juul holsters his pepperbox and steps into the hut.

"Whoever did this was looking for something and knew where to look. Every book had been opened to a specific point: the back."

Si'Juul begins doing the same for every book that hasn't been opened yet.

Getting slightly frustrated, he gives up on looking over the books. He searches the rest of the house for any bodies.

Poinki looks at the books to see what they are about. There were no books in his goblin tribe's tunnels, so he has never actually read one before. If any of these are in common, he should be able to figure out the titles. He picks them up and stacks them on the shelf carefully as he examines them.  (The torn books, are there actually pages that have been removed, or just torn from careless handling?)

Si'Juul flips through a couple of the books before giving up. He finds most of them are religious texts, talking about different miracles from the gods.

Poinki can read a lot of the texts, most are in Common. He sees titles such as, The Great Works of Tyr and 400 Medicinal Herbs. They seem to be books on religion and healing. 

Twitch is curious about the room, and she is trying to piece the clues around the room together.

"Whoever's been living here, they were desperate about something. We know that Oleg's wife died recently, but this here suggests to me that there might be more to the story. Oleg is a resourceful man, otherwise he'd not have friends like Elyxisis. If Olivia was getting ill, he would have been trying to reach his contacts to help her, cash in any old favours. We know however that that didn't happen, since we were sent to check on him here. Now, what would be a good reason to read books on healing and religion from beginning to end, but too bad or dark to not let your old friends know about? Probably the same thing that's responsible for them no longer eating regularly. For my money, something here has affected Olivia and later on Oleg. We might have to deal with more undead like the ones we found in the ship..."

Twitch finds one book in praticular that has pages ripped out. It's cover reads, the Life of Myrkul.

“Undead.” Elhanna whispers to everyone. “2 of them in the other structure, this house is safe.” She grabs her mace and shield from its holsters and walk over to the other building. 

Si'Juul just sighs and draws his pepperbox once again.

"I hate magic, especially magic that brings back the dead. The dead should stay dead. Where did you sense the things, Elhanna? The house seems to be empty except for the mess."

Poinki follows Elhanna at once. "Undeads," Poinki growls. "Always trouble. We make sure they not bother good people."

"They are in this house over here. Be careful"

Si'Juul makes his way to the other building, reaching out to test if it's locked, slowly turning the handle if it isn't locked.

Si'Juul can easily determine that it's not locked. The building appears to be less of a house and more of a mausoleum. The door is made of stone as seems to be swung outwards by simply pulling on a brass ring. Above the door is written Grigorovitch.
