Tales from Talaveroth

Paren spends most of the second day training on deck, looking like his eyes are closed but watching the goings on as he does. Having noticed Si-Juul seemingly looking for something all over the ship he decides he better have a look around too. He waits until late evening and then slips out of his cabin and begins examining things in the cargo hold.

Paren totally manages to evade Ogg and his twin brother Thogg on their patrol rounds. Even Muffins the cat doesn't seem to notice him when she prowls through sniffing an former rats' nests.

In the main cargo hold you find:

ships stores (barrels of pitch, water and rum, cabbages, potatoes, onions and just a few barrels of dried, salted meat)

Bulk cargo: Piles of wool, lumber, some sort of large pressing machines, barrels of wine and blocks of pig iron.

Crated cargo: Some are labeled, some only are marked with a destination.  Between the marked crates and the ones you peek in, you find spices, harness buckles, pottery packed in sawdust, enormous dried leaves, buttons, tanned hides, and sacks of dry beans.

Satisfied the ship isn't carrying anything that's working against his current task Paren slips back in to his room and relaxes in a trance.

During night 2, Si'Juul gazes out his porthole window, enjoying the sounds of the waves, his door left open. Other times he may be pacing back and forth, running a to-do list in his head. He will likely remain this way unless interrupted before bed.

Elhanna remember that the food in the cargo isn’t top notch. The cabbages are even close to going bad. So she spends the entire second day purifying the food. It would be bad if the crew got sick. When she is down she will help Twitch to mendIng then broken barrels. 

As the sun fades on the second day, you can see a tiny pinpick of light ahead.  "That's the lighthouse on Coral Island," the first mate tells you.

Twitch and Si'Juul notice a large, dark shape some distance off on the port bow.  It looks like a ship...but there seems to be something wrong about the shape. The lookout doesn't call out, though.  Maybe they are nodding off...or watching the sky.

Si'Juul stands at the very front of the bow to get a better look.

Twitch is tying herself to one of the pollers, before stepping over the railing and lowering herself along the side of the ship, to get closer to the surface and be able to determine what's in the water.

It's a lot further way that that...the distant ship seems to be half covered by something grey and shapeless, and seems to be  being pulled down on that side.

Can Twitch determine whether the ship is sinking, or whether it is being dragged into the water?

“What do you see?” She Ask Twitch as she sees her watching out over the sea. When Twitch point it out Elhanna wonders if it is the same ship that they sailed passed a few days ago.

It looks like it's being dragged down, or that something is attempting to pull it over.

Si'Juul grabs the nearest crewman with one hand, not taking his eyes off the entity.

"You mind having the navigator steer around that thing?"

Then he lets him go. Walking over to Twitch and Paren.

"Either of you two done combat in the ocean?"

Paren raises an eyebrow. "I punch things. This is not going to be my forte." 

The crewman looks at you in confusion  "Eh?  I don't give the orders around here, mate. Anyway, whatever that is, it don't look like it's in our path."

Maybe you need to talk to an officer...

Si'Juul just grins.

"Not mine either."

He groans in response to the crewman and marches off to find someone who looks in charge or the captain, whoever he sees first. And without a word, pushes them towards the bow so they can see the creature.

He brings his beak over their shoulder and says,

"We are avoiding that, yes?"

Si'Juul finds the first mate, who looks through the spyglass. She calls out, "Captain!  Looks like a ship in distress to port."

The captain stares out over the ocean. "Have they seen us?  Have they put up any distress signal? Are they a Richard Company ship?"

"Doesn't look like it, Captain."

"Not our problem, then.  Sail on."

Si'Juul just rolls his eyes and crosses his arms.

"Typical......"

He walks back over to Paren and Twitch.

"Well.....captain's gonna skirt the ship.....still only concerned with his own hide.......think we should scope it out ourselves?"

The first mate overhears, and says, "I bet you could get him to bring the ship to a halt and let you go investigate in one of the boats, as long as he didn't have to risk the Mobius."
