[Let me know when The Champion and Aliez catch up with the rest of the group (assuming they are also going to discuss the return of the breathing helmets/the salvage operation).]
Reguh gives a bit of a smile, but is clearly disappointed to hear that the library is mostly works of fiction. He gives a slight bow and say “My name is Reguh, and my friend here is Kenton.” He gives a bit of emphasis on the word friend because he feels he has truly made a new one, which is rare for him. He hopes not to mess it up.
Kenton grins at the general friendliness in the air, and introduces Halmna to everyone in the party who is present (that's Oden and Beatrice at the moment? And of course, the Champion and Aliez when they arrive).
"I will think on it for you." Aliez says as she turns and begins walking back towards the group, trying to grapple with everything she has been learning and these new allies she has. she turns back and quietly says, "I've never worked with or talked to someone with morals like yours. Thank you."She quickly turns and hurries back towards the group.
Kenton grins at the general friendliness in the air, and introduces Halmna to everyone in the party who is present (that's Oden and Beatrice at the moment? And of course, the Champion and Aliez when they arrive).
"Well met, Halmna! Are you a local? Thank you for being so welcoming to my friends. Have you found anything nice, Kenton? What about you, Reguh?" Oden asks, while still looking left and right, trying to spot The Champion and Aliez through the many people walking about.
Well, we're on the way to the library, if there's time,Kenton replies. We've only really found sweets so far, but they were very good, quite excellent in fact. Halmna is a great guide. So, this fellow, Bryn, is... the provider of the helmets, is that right? You've met him before? Is he the manufacturer of these impressive devices?
Halmna shakes anybody's hand that offers it, and answers Oden's question "Hello Oden, a pleasure to meet you. Yes, I'm a local, I've lived here all my life. It is always a pleasure to show people the joys of Brokenbank, especially when one is at a loose end..."
Halmna then jumps in and answers part of Kenton's question "Bryn is the owner of the Prawn's Pawn General Store [he points to the shop in front of you], as well as the Bazaar that bears her name [he points to the shop behind you] and she has her hand in a few other businesses." He then says loud enough for Piotr to hear "She and her husband Piotr are fine upstanding folk and I consider them friends."
Piotr chuckles as he hands Ness over to Beatrice and guides them into the shop. Piotr calls back to Oden, "Haha, I see you have met "Everywhere Hal. It was only a matter of time really!" He then calls back to Halmna "Hal, you are not only a friend who is far too generous with his compliments, but also are genuinely a pillar of the community."
Halmna says in a self-deprecating tone "He has to say that, I'm their landlord" and winks.
He then asks the group "what are these helmets you speak of? They're not the ones that some group of ruffians strong-armed Hektor out of are they? If they are, I hope you handed those ne'er-do-wells over to the guards to get what is coming to them and I'm sure Hektor will be very happy to get the helmets back. Not only did the rogues basically admit to having a part in Vikkaen's murder, but they threatened Hektor with the same fate if he didn't hand over the helmets. Disgusting! Hektor was very happy when those brutes left town, and I'm sure he will be even happier to find out that they have now been taken care of."
"Maybe with Piotr here to vouch for us, it's fine to say that those ruffians, ne'er-do-wells, rogues and ... brutes?... are actually none of that. Hektor was refering to us, but he didn't have the entire story. A pirate delivered the threat through us, and if we're to be blamed of something, it would be of ignorance." Looking at Piotr, Oden adds: "We should probably set the story straight with Hektor. Turned out Three-Earrings was Revelry."
I’m playing a bit of catchup with Champion, but I’m looking to return the helmet, and go speak to the guy Three Rings threatened, so as to sort out the threats and blackmail.
I assure you,Kenton says to Halmna, these folk are as honourable and valiant as they come. Though I met them only recently, we have faced the horrors of the deep together, and each one of them has proved to be a true ally and comrade in arms. If this Hektor has anything ill to say of them, I shall set him right and no mistake.
"It appears Three Earring's generosity in saving the people of Flora Isle was motivated more out of her own self-interest and need to have others to take the fall for her desire for treasure than it was the kindness of her heart," Beatrice says, bouncing Ness slightly and grinning at her.
Halmna is a little bit taken aback, but sees that Piotr seems to trust you, so nods and follows you all in to the Prawn's Pawn and General Store.
The Champion, if you are trying to visit Hektor solo before joining with the others:
Hektor sees you approaching Hektor's Hammer, downs his tools and walks out the back, calling out "The shop is temporarily closed." His two workers look at each other and at you somewhat confused, then one recognises you and calls out "We don't want trouble OK?" and starts backing away.
The other realises who you are and grabs the Great Axe he was working on by the grip (the weapon is not finished and the edge is glowing hot) and yells out "I'm not scared of you!Turn around and get out of here. You have to the count of 10... 10... 9... 8... 6...3..."
He seems like he is about to charge if you don't walk away. Does The Champion stick around and try and talk?
Kenton (and anyone who needs a refresher on what the Prawn's Pawn and General Store looks like):
"you are impressed by the size of the shop, with multiple shopfronts and sections. There is a fresh and dried food section, a lolly/sweet/candy section, a 'general adventuring' section, and the pawnbroker section, all accessible from the street and with internal doors between the sections. It looks like the shop has grown over time and that these were not all one big joined shop originally. Each of the sections of the store are bustling with a few locals and (as with all shops, eateries and taverns you have all seen along the way) a lot of sailors and travelers. There is a lot of security watching for anyone trying to get a five finger discount and most things of value are in cases or behind counters."
You also see a poster in the pawnbroker area that says, "We Can Appraise and Identify Your Antique, Rare or Arcane Items for only 10gp".
I've updated how the shop displays stock. Before I was adding multiple of every item they had more than one of in stock, but because they stock a lot of things it was unmanageable. Now I will roll if someone tries to buy more than one item (or multiple players want to buy something). I'll use the following rules, which you don't need to read, but can:
They will have in stock (on shelves and out the back):
- 2d20+30 of any item worth less than 5 copper,
- 2d20+10 of anything worth between 5 copper and less than 1 silver,
- 1d20+3 of anything worth between 1 silver and less than 1 gold,
- 1d10+1 of anything worth between 1 gold and less than 10 gold,
- 1d6 of anything worth between 10 gold and less than 50 gold,
- 1d4 of anything worth between 50 gold and less than 100 gold.
Everything above 100 gold they have only 1 of in stock except spyglasses which they have three of (locked up with the magic items).
They also have trinkets, knick-knacks and souvenirs, which are not all listed though people can spend time looking through when not in a rush (make an investigation roll for every 30 minutes spent). The Champion can make a free investigation check when he enters the shop, as something shiny catches his eye.
The Champion raises his hands. “Peace, Hektor! I’m here to tell you I had no idea what was going on. Three Rings has been dealt with, and I’d like to do my part to make things right by you.”
The Champion raises his hands. “Peace, Hektor! I’m here to tell you I had no idea what was going on. Three Rings has been dealt with, and I’d like to do my part to make things right by you.”
Hektor has already disappeared out the back and does not hear you call out to him.
IfThe Champion is not walking away:
Roll a persuasion check with disadvantage as the worker charges at you after he completes the countdown "3... umm... 2?... 1..."
Also, roll initiative.
If The Champion walks away:
The worker calls out after you "Yeah, not so tough without your bully friends, are you?"
He then returns to the workshop and the other worker seems to start telling him off.
Potentially backtracking a little, but Oden would have asked Aliez where she left The Champion and try to fetch him before going in to see Bryn, unless the others suggest we go ahead without him.
Kenton browses, but without any plans to buy anything. He keeps an eye out for the rest of the party, and watches for this Hektor person. He asks Reguh: There was some misunderstanding, I take it? Related to your unfortunate previous employment?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The worker (Gilbrid - though nobody knows his name at the moment) finishes charging at The Champion. Initiative: 6. He swings the Greataxe - Attack: 11 Damage: 9 plus 2 heat/fire damage.
Gilbrid swings wide with the Greataxe. It seems like this may be the first time that Gilbrid has wielded a weapon. He seems a bit nervous that he didn't hit (possibly assuming it was easy to hit someone with a weapon, despite never trying before), but he tries to cover by saying "That was just a warning. Get out of here and never come back!"
