If the man provided a gesture of a direction with the "madman up yonder," Eonis takes that as adequate directions. Otherwise she asks for clarification, "Where would we find this supposed 'mad man,' exactly? These are mad times, we cannot ignore the words of those who seem insane to our conceptions."
Ola did not argue - it was there lives and after all, the attack was nothing but a guess work, while storm was quite a reality building up right in from of them. The groups target here was the "madman" (for now) and she was waiting for a direction.
If their recalcitrant ferryman does not appear interested in providing further directions, Eonis shrugs and readies her horse to head towards the "over yonder" direction he specified they might find the man who was speaking of the Dracolich. "It seems a good a place to start as any, unless anyone has other ideas."
"I don't know, aren't my job t' keep track o' th' fella," the boatman calls out. He deposits some equipment in the small shed and walks toward another of the boats to assist the island folk there.
Eonis will aid the others with unloading their things and mounting their horses if needed, and begin heading further inland in the general direction the ferryman pointed them towards, if there are no objections.
If Eonis approaches Sylyra, she receives a glare to melt a thousand candles. The elf mounts his horse — without assistance — and prepares to head in the direction of the town.
Eonis’ Passive Insight, and general observations of Sylyra, have made it clear the elf has much more of a kinship with animals than she does, likely more than the elf does with people, so she would have made no such offer. As she considers this line of thinking, she says as a bit of a non sequitur, “Animals. Interesting. I hadn’t thought of it until the incident where you spoke to the wolf mother, Sylyra. You can speak to animals, literally, correct? I would like to see what we can learn in town and possibly from this man who also saw a dracolich, but I would imagine no one has interviewed animals about what they observed in these attacks. Humans process traumas differently, something I have some experience into, but perhaps, if you find an opportunity, you might speak with an animal who witnessed the attack?” She makes the suggestion guilelessly, without a hint of mockery or irony.
Uragum mistly ignores the animal comment. It's interesting but ultimately nothing he can assist with. Instead he heads further inland and looks for what would appear to be a gathering spot for locals.
Your first sight of the island village comes as you climb the wooded hill. It is underwhelming - little more than a collection of hovels, a barn, and a large centrally located fire pit. Dirty faces and wide eyes stare at you as you exit the rain soaked tree line, before turning away. One villager, however, does not. A grinning girl with wild dirty hair and a pock marked face runs up to you with obvious excitement.
"Who might ye be, Outsides?" she asks, practically jumping with excitement.
Eonis blinks, and responds a bit overly mechanically with, “Yes, outsiders. That is what we are to you. I am a cleric of Tyr, a goodly god of order. My comrades and I are adventurers. We are here to help. Can you direct us to... an adult? A village elder or leader perhaps?”
"We are travelers, from Phlan - the town down the road."Ola added the name of the town to Eonis's short speech in case people here were familiar with it and that would ease some possible tension. She smiled to the girl, softening request: "My name is Ola, and what would be yours?"
"No, not outsiders. Outsides!" the girl beams, emphasizing the R in Eonis's response. "Is nice to meet an Ola, my name is Elisande," she says.
"Wow, Phlan. Is Phlan big?" Elisande nods eagerly when asked for help. "We friends, I shows ye 'round! I shows ye everyt'ing! We's not a big place," she says.
Always hones, Ola nodded to the question: "There are more houses than here, that I can tell."
"Could you show us the place where we can leave our horses? Storm is coming, they say, and horses do not like it, I am afraid." "Everywhere" most likely included Elders/leaders and madman. And as the girl said, could not take long.
Eonis is far from the brightest bulb in her current state of mental decay, but she clings to the formal structure she has retained from when she was more able to learn and retain information zealously, correcting lightly, “The proper nomenclature for someone from outside your local region would be ‘Outsider,’ child. ‘Outsides’ is an atypical word usage, suggesting multiple outdoor areas, or multiple ‘Outsides.’ Still, I think I understand your meaning. May we speak to an adult?”
Following Eonis's personal observations and suggestion concerning animals, Sylyra does not respond vocally. His look of "warning" melts into a look of surprise and contemplation.
Once the back and forth with Elisande begins, the elf comments in an undertone to the cleric, "You're wasting your breath, child," he says, looking around with an unabashed look of revulsion. "If we weren't using this location to try to stop the potential danger to Phlan, I'd consider it a mercy to let this backwoods shanty town be wiped from the map."
"Phlan stands a beacon of civilization and urban development in this region," Eonis says. "While small settlements like this may have more in common with the lives of animals than a grand city like Phlan, I can tell you from personal experience there are many reasons people might end up living in such backwater regions. Some are born into it and long for more. Some retreat to such places out of shame or fear, as I did. Others simply have contempt for the artifice of culture and civilization and prefer to live simpler lives, living off of the land, closer to the patterns of animals than of creatures based on reason and cultural development. But, even animals have a right to live, as I'm sure you would agree, Sylyra."
Eonis conversationally pivots suddenly, with, "That token defense of the rural lifestyle aside, I would still prefer to speak to an adult at present." Eonis seems no more comfortable entertaining the child's wide-eyed questions than Sylyra, if a bit more tactful in her approach to her discomfort.
"Hmm, no, you looken like Outsides," Elisande corrects Eonis with some slight confusion. She practically jumps up and down when Ola asks about showing the party around. "I can show da village. I know all da places, I been here my whole life! I show you where da horsies can go?" she asks.
You see many passing glances as the rest of the locals eye you with apparent caution.
Ola raised her brows slightly at epithets like "beacon of civilization" and "grand city" used to describe Phlan, but did not say anything - everyone has his own standard. Instead, she smiled to the girl softly: "Please do. Can you tell me what do you mean by "Outsides", Elisande? I do not know the word."It felt like a might-be-important semantic. By far not Ola's area of expertise but there was nothing else to go by for now and who knows what locals used that word for, may be upcoming monsters are "Outsides" as well.
She followed the girl leading her horse and mule to the promised shelter.

Ola follows - whatever is awaiting them here, the answers is somewhere past that shed.

If Eonis sees an adult she will wave and approach them, trying to stand with her "eye patch side" facing away so as not to intimidate the locals.
