Sylyra sighs and lets his gaze wonder away from Eonis as she once again blathers on. When she finishes, he mumbles, "Animals wouldn't choose to live here if they had a choice."
Eonis approaches one of the townsfolk staring at them, and asks, "Is there a village elder, or headman, or townmaster, or burgomaster, or some similar officiate we might speak with?"
"Well das easy. We live here, so we Folk. You's do not, so you's Outsides," Elisande answers Ola.
She excitedly "tours" the party around the island, merely pointing or moving a few dozen paces to bring you close enough to see the landmarks. Her strange accent grows even thicker for her descriptions. First pointing back to the beach that you arrived from, she explains, "Das the landing. It's where the Folk reaped da sea's ripe bounty. Course is also weal for swimmin' when da dayfire rises high."
Then, she points to the small collection of homes that Eonis has approached. The cleric's attempts at conversing with an adult are met with nothing but cold stares and silence. A few of the villagers gather their children and return to their homes, closing their doors, but Elisande continues unabated, "Dases be homes to the folk. Outsides mussen' haven homes! Ye not be sleepin' in the rains do ye? Iffen so, ye not want to be botherin' the Folk like she."
Looking to a disheveled house with a collapsed roof, she says, "Das me house before me mudder and vater were taken by the chill fever. Now wees kept the lunaman there."
Toward a large fire pit amid the center of the hovels, Elisande mentions, "Da pit es the local for speeching wit the crones. Day always clean the drink. All need the drink."
"And das ye smokenhouse. Not weal aire, but good eat!" she exclaims at one of the homes.
As you arrive at the largest structure in the village, she says, "Da is the barn. House for yan goats. But ye's can kept your horsies dere."
For such a small island, the woods at the far side past the barn are oddly thick. Full of visible pines, walnuts, hawthorns, and dense underbrush, it doesn't appear to be a pleasant place to walk. Seeing your eyes inevitably gazing at it, Elisande offers, "No, mustin walk the dark wood. The creatures gobble you!"
"Where do you leave now?" It was more of a habit of a polite conversation than a real curiosity, but Ola listened the answer as if was honestly waiting for one. "Let's put the horses into the barn and then we can visit the lunaman." She smiled to the girls again: "Would it be all right if we talk to the lunaman? Can I ask who are those crones you talked about? And what sort of creatures are in the woods?"
Eonis blinks at the cold response from the adults, and tries to keep up with the child's dialect, occasionally attempting to interject clarifying questions, and eventually giving up.
"There is a barn we can put horses into. The child's parents perished from illness. They evidently fish and have a smokehouse. Some sort of crones, and a 'lunaman.' I am guessing they've had little contact with the mainland, as they've developed their own dialect to this degree," Eonis shares her observations. "I normally would recommend gathering further information, but given the reticence of the locals to communicate - other than this child - perhaps we should simply explore the island, and see what we can learn firsthand."
"Old Crones?" Uragum questions. "Hmm... those could be some wise women that run the place or some sort of mages or both. I'd be very interested to meet them first. But yes, seeing the island first hand is also a must and we must do so as quickly as possible if we are to prepare in time."
OOC: The island isn't tiny, but it's not vast by any means and the woods take up most of the space. There is likely enough time to closely investigate three or four locations before the sun sets.
"Oh I be live here and dere. Some night I liven under da nightlight, but wen da wet comes I liven in da barn wit da goaties," Elisande answers Ola.
She nods when Ola asks about the "lunaman", and answers of the crones, "Dey be at da pit for da clean drink."
A chill passes over the young girl when asked about the woods. "Many dark creatures be fill da woods. Me stay away, and ye mustin too."

“We are all agreed, I assume, on going to the barn first to secure the horses,” Eonis says, and contents herself with that short term goal. She heads to the barn, presuming the others will accompany her, first.
"And then visit the "lunaman"," nodded Ola, thinking about another matter, though. "A child in the village that lost parents but not taken in by any other family? This is beyond barbaric and incredibly impractical for a tight community. Would you want to get away from this island, Elisande?"
She waited for the girl's reaction and then asked about adults here: "Why grownups do not want to talk to us?"
Eonis secures her horse in the barn and aids anyone else in the busywork task, listening in on the conversation between Ola and the child. Quietly to the others, she says, "Though it may not appear to be civilized 'law and order' as we recognize it, this village likely has its own structure and hierarchy. While it may seem strange to us, unless it is inherently unethical, it isn't appropriate for us to interfere with their culture. We're here to protect them, and all the other surrounding communities, as well as Phlan itself. I worry we will burn our bridges with the locals if we begin taking their children."
"I did," very seriously nodded Ola to Sylyra, "next beast I see - I kill before it can do any harm." "Bit there is no need to panic, Eonis, no one is going to "steal someone's child". Abandoned child, on the other hand, is a burden and potential danger for the comunity - I though you would understand such things. We shall talk to the elders, should we find one, about that too."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Eonis finishes securing the horses in the barn, and gives the barn a quick once over glance as she does so (Perception 15 ) then attempts to refocus on their next agenda item. "So, next you all would like to contact this Luna-Man, at the Pit of Clean Drink? If that's the case, shall we head there now?"
When Ola mentions getting away from the island, Elisande's smile stretches so far it could fall off of her face. She nods vociferously and says, "Can I go to Flam wit ye?"
When asked about her age, she answers, "I asked da crones dat meself and dey say I was elevnortwelf," then lastly, about why the adults do not seem to have an interest in speaking with you, simply offers, "Da Folk no like da Outsides to stay."
Elisande still tails you as you reach the barn. It is largely empty inside but for four goats that graze on scattered hay within, leaving ample room to stable your horses. The goats look sickly and degenerate. One has an oddly short, stumpy leg while another has the milky eyes of blindness. Another has only one horn.

"Oh, she's Elven? Well that would make some sense on why no one took her in. They may be some prejudice against them," Uragum says. He had struggled to get use to that thick accent.
"She is eleven," corrected Ola, "and yes, Elisande, you can come with us when we leave the island." She looked around the barn with disgust: "Iam afraid Sylyra is right - if animals could choose they would run from here. And this is certainly not a place for a lonely child".
When horses were taken care of, she asked Elisande to walk them to the "lunaman" (Ruined house?) (We all wanted to get there)
Sylyra narrows his eyes at Ola after her remark about killing to next beast she sees.
After seeing the goats in their current state, Sylyra takes the time to speak with each (speech of the woods) to find out if the goats are being abused. He knows that sometimes, life is hard, and if the goats feel no ill will toward their owners, he shouldn't, either.

How big is the island?
Sylyra makes note of the house where the "lunaman" is kept, but when "crones" are mentioned, the elf raises an eyebrow.

Well, we need to go the barn to leave our horses, but Sylyra's interested in the ruined hovel and fire pit.

"Did you not learn your lesson with the hireling?" Sylyra says to Ola, callously giving a nod to the bundle riding on the back of the donkey.
After stabling his mount, Arnald and Sly approach the young girl, "Elisande, how old are you?"
