Seeing Onyx and Grahl emerge from the inky darkness, Arbon clamps a large hand down on Onyx' shoulder. "Good to see you're okay, bookish one," he then calls over to Grahl on the other side of the room, "Good to see you're okay too Grahl, even if it is on the wrong side of this strange inky mass." Looking down at the rope, waiting on their last member to ascend, "Where is Chazrael? Was he behind you, Onyx?"
"Yes," said Onyx, a little breathless from the climb. It was then that he looked over and saw Grahl--on the far side--and simply let out a low groan.
He'd address Grahl later. But first, "I'm fine, I just came up to let you know Chazrael and I both were. But he walked off, confident he could find Grahl." The warlock waved a hand in frustration toward the opposite side of the bridge.
"I'm going back down, I told him I'd stay near the rope to help direct him back to it. Don't worry, I won't walk off. We've had enough of that."
Steeling himself for the climb back down, Onyx suddenly remembered he wanted to test something. "Oh! Before I go back down..."
Uttering arcane words and then waving a hand toward the bottom of the pit, he smiled. "There! Now I have an illusion of music playing, right at the bottom of the pit, near the rope. And of course, we can't hear it from here. But if I can hear it as I go down, then we may actually have a way to communicate around this cursed fog!"
A bit winded Grahl gets up to stand seeing the other two. If possible Grahl will move towards them and shout Demons down in mist! Grahl kill elf demon.
Picking up his walking pace.
Something bigger there too. he adds as he sees Onyx descending
Wading through the heavy mists, you lose sight of Onyx, the Wall, and of yourself. Only 15 steps in and your hand fades into the blurry white void, literally unable to be seen unless right in front of your face.
A few more steps you wander. Breath, a step more. Breath, a step more. You muster up the courage and consider perhaps calling out and perhaps not calling out.
Panic strikes your face as something very strong and very narrow wrapped itself around your ankle and pulled violently sending your head crashing to the floor.
In the moment of confusion, you feel something crawling over your legs. Your try to scoot away from it, even taking a few swings at it as it drags itself up. Your attempts collide with a fleshy mass that reveals itself as some horribly burned person whose been mutilated by whatever blaze did this. You can see by its eyes that whatever skin was about must have melted over them as they're sealed shut to its face. It screams from a mouth with blackened teeth and bleeding gums and then vanishes into air, leaving charcoal stains in the shape of fingers where it was grabbing your chest.
Onyx descends, and sees nothing. He hears the music when he finally reaches the bottom, it has been twisted. The light, airy music that was intended has turned to a chorus of low whispers. It is reminiscent of what you imagine Sea Travelers on Longboats would have sung during the bleakest of nights, rowing against stormy and dark waters.
"How odd," thought Onyx. "It's as if anything we try to convey becomes twisted and dark. We might even see each other as monsters." It suddenly struck him that meeting Grahl in this mist might not have been the safest option. Onyx quickly cancelled the auditory illusion.
The original plan had been to blare a loud vocal announcement, signaling to Chazrael where the rope was. However, Onyx thought better of that. After a moment's thought, he used his magic to again create an illusion, only this one was of a loud, single note, as if struck on a small gong, and continuing endlessly. The warlock figured that it could only be distorted so much; hopefully it would remain a simple sound, one that could still lead Chazrael.
"Besides, he seems like a smart chap. He might figure this all out anyways, and follow the sound regardless."
Arbon calls out to Grahl as he makes his way across the bridge towards them, "Careful now, Grahl! Don't fall again." He looks down into the darkness once again."I'm not surprised there are demons down there. But it concerns me that something bigger is down there with Onyx and Chazrael. Should we go down as well?"
Chazrael is just going to stay put and draw his bow. If something attacks him, such as digging into his skin, cutting him, etc. He won't fire on a friendly tap or shake.
The floor rumbles violently where Onyx and Chazrael are, sending small then very large tremors hard enough to have Onyx join Chazrael on the ground. From this level, the fog thickens at the top and thins at the bottom like smoke. You can now see each other, and the rest of the ground down there but only from the bottom. Looking around you can see floor, the walls, each other...
...and a third pair of boots off standing alone.
(From the wall, Chazrael is about 10 feet out, Onyx about 2, and the third pair about 12, maybe 10 as well, clearly closer to Chazrael's distance out in the fog but about 10 feet to left under where the bridge would be.)
Grahl will stand near Arbon, unsure if they should go down. Grahl no see in fog, get lost when go down. He will wait for the moment, hoping Arbon will notice movement at the rope he is standing with.
Grahl will put his axe on his back and take out his spear, positioning himself to throw it down along the rope if something else comes up.
Above the fog, Grahl steadily made his way across the bridge to Arbon and the two surveyed the area about the rope.
Chazrael and Onyx see the pair of boots change stance to that of someone surprised as Chazrael slides across the floor. When he gets about halfway, the boots start running toward you!
In the quick seconds that passed, Chazrael leapt to his feet to close the short distance between his ally and this new foe.
For a split second Onyx saw two pairs of boots running and then Chazrael run into him.
You both stand and rejoin the hazy mist where you can see nothing, but you are both close and hear the gong. You can both touch the wall, and hear each other.
Whatever the other boots were connected to is not so close. In fact, it's entirely absent so far as you can tell.
"Well, friend," said Onyx slowly, still slightly unsure of the situation. "I suppose I'll let you climb first?"
Awkwardly fumbling and landing his hand on Chazrael's shoulder, he slid down to his wrist, then held his companion's hand as he guided it to the rope.
"I'll hold onto the bottom, so I can climb right after," he said, trying to be reassuring. "Grahl is already back up, somehow--I think he climbed the wall."
"Go on, then; we should probably leave here as quickly as we can."
Seeing Onyx and Grahl emerge from the inky darkness, Arbon clamps a large hand down on Onyx' shoulder. "Good to see you're okay, bookish one," he then calls over to Grahl on the other side of the room, "Good to see you're okay too Grahl, even if it is on the wrong side of this strange inky mass." Neither Chazrael or Onyx notice or see anything of note in the mists.
Chazrael in particular does not see any of the ash marks from whatever grabbed him minutes before.

Onyx turned to his stomach, and waved Chazrael over, "C'mon!"
It took a second before he realized there was another set of boots further back. "Hurry! Someone's behind you, and I know it's not Grahl!"
Onyx then turned back around, still lying low, and tried to find and grab the end of the rope that he climbed down on.
