Slowly struggling to his feet, Onyx cast his cantrip in an attempt to dispel the horrid stench.
(( If that works, he'll go ahead and peek inside door to check out the entire room. Otherwise, he'll hold up for a minute... he's not a fan of smell-based CON saves ))
The gust of wind displaces the smell for a moment but it resettles seconds after.
As they walk inside, Grahl and Arbon are made aware of this now slightly aired out stench, giving them a reduced dosage of the odor.
Onyx shuts the door (?) intending to perhaps take a crack at it once a large amount of sanitary chemicals could be located. ( "Otherwise he'll hold up for a minute" )
With the door now closed, the smell lingers for a time but the air doesn't seem so foul as when it was open.
Three doors in this mansion remain and the demon is now free to roam within the hag coven's den.
"Apologies, gentlemen," said Onyx weakly as he managed to hold down the rest of his fluids. "I just couldn't take that stench any longer. Hope you have strong stomachs--or a stronger wind spell than mine--if you're going to look in there."
Arbon covers his nose as he gets closer to the top of the stairs. "Perhaps we should take a look at these other rooms? Unless you wish to chase down the fiend? He was in quite the hurry to go back across to where we defeated the oracles and the orc."
"I don't really see a reason to chase after him. Maybe he's looking to get to the surface? As long as he doesn't present a threat, we might as well just deal with what's in front of us first."
Chazrael puts his bow away. "Normally I'm all for chasing demons and putting holes in them. But I agree with Onyx. They don't pose a threat and we should face the obstacles before us."
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
After deciding not to chase the demon, there is a moment where you all consider the information you have.
Both Onyx & Chazrael saw that the bedroom wasn't huge. It stunk, it was gorey, but it was a pretty average sized room for how grand the front of the building and staircase make it seem. If the other rooms were the same, it wouldn't take long to see all this place had to offer.
Both Grahl & Arbon saw that the bridge held out despite swaying heavily. It cracked, some planks broke, but its ropes were holding fast after the demon's hasty retreat upon the wooden crossing. While it might not be ready now, it shouldn't be more than a few minutes before its ready to use again, once done here.
Amongst the doors, they have no significant markings to tell them apart. You are the wiser, however, and look for the tell tale whispers that are abound...
In front of you, the smell seems to have gone. The closed bedroom door on the left appears to have some kind of sealing magic when shut. [Top Left: Bedroom]
Curiously, you now smell a faint scent of animal fats. Perhaps it always existed, and the distractions numbered too many to identify. It comes from the door on the left below you. [Bottom Left: Strong Animal Smell]
Taking a few steps across the hall upstairs, the smell dissipates, and you're made aware that something is blowing the animal fat smell upwards at the bedroom...perhaps the door on the bottom right has a draft? [Bottom Right: Door with a Draft]
The door in front of you now is interesting. It doesn't smell, and the twisted bedroom didn't when closed either. It wasn't burned, wasn't unnautrally cold. Yet it feels ominous to stand before it, as if whatever went on behind it was meant not to be witnessed or experienced again. You have a sense of disobedience to something meant to be obeyed by the just. In a very simple sense, this door feels wrong. [Top Right: Ominous Door]
Arbon steps forward, curious now as to what is going on behind the ominous door. "Why does this feel like something has changed? Do you remember what you saw when you first opened this door, Onyx?" he asks as he opens it, once again, to look inside behind the ominous door (Perception if you want it: 15).
Arbon opens the door on the top right. As he grips the handle, he is subject to a feeling of finality, as if something behind this door will not only shock but inform. In a situation where everything seems ominous, perhaps the most unsettling among them contains some answers.
The wood creaks open slowly, and this room is much more quiet and dark than you've recently experienced. In the vague shadows, you can make out a squared room with two large box shapes on each side, and some kind of mirror on the back wall. There's an inscribed circle on the ground and unlit candles placed at strategic points around it.
If\when you disturb the silence and stillness by crossing even a toe over the floor's threshold, the candles ignite and begin to burn a small purple flame.
The two boxes are bookshelves, as a tall as a person, and packed to the gills with many types of spell components used in ritual magics.
You are almost positive this was the third hag's summoning chamber. To that end, this is probably where the Demon was summoned in some capacity, and then subsequently rebelled against whatever plans the three had for it after. Yet, this room is pristine. Not a speck of dust or even the whiff of rodent urine. The creature must have been brought into this world, moved, and the room then cleaned and not used for some time after. This is most curious as it seems amply supplied for heavy ongoing magic use, something the third hag was most assuredly not doing...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Arbon slowly moves around the room, carefully making sure he doesn't cross or disturb the summoning circle on the ground. He looks over the bookshelves and seeing the components, looks for a pearl (worth 100gp) for Identify (Investigation: 11).
"I wonder what other creatures those hags had summoned through this circle? It's a pity that they'd set up shop in what seems to have been quite a nice place before it was moved here from wherever the village was," Arbon says as he rounds the room.
Arbon is able to easily see two thin metal bars protruding from the back wall of the right bookcase on the top shelf. As if supporting a scarecrow made of gems, it lightly props up the bending corners of several priceless peral necklaces. They hang there like a jewelry store display case.
(You could easily break one, and any of the many perals upon the string would surely be worth at least 100g.)
Arbon carefully removes the necklace and places it in a small compartment in his pack. Then refocuses his attention to the circle and the candles.
(DM Question - so the candles lit as we entered. Does there appear to be anything else going on with this summoning circle? Ie. the markings glowing etc?)
Slowly struggling to his feet, Onyx cast his cantrip in an attempt to dispel the horrid stench.

Grahls gaze lingers on the goatman as he moves away further quickly.
He then turns to Arbon and nods while starting to walk back inside.

Grahl looks confused as he moves towards the bottom of the stairs. He can smell something but not overbearing.
What behind door? he asks
More stinky demon? referring to the one they met in the mines a while ago
"It's another hag. She's dead--but she was in pretty bad shape. Worse than Urithag."

Now its just a matter of which door is first...
(( You guys can go ahead and choose; Onyx is NOT wanting to be first to open a door again. Not that he'll admit it.... ))

Chazrael raises his hand. "I think I'll open a door first. Just tell me which ones."
I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
Arbon looks around the landing on the second floor for the first time at each of the doors as he tries to decide which to enter first.
(DM Question - is there any identifying marks on each of the doors?)
Amongst the doors, they have no significant markings to tell them apart. You are the wiser, however, and look for the tell tale whispers that are abound...

The inscriptions are written in some kind of chalk. Its white and reflects the purple glow well. (Nothing different from when you entered.)
