"Banrion!" Hamdel calls out loudly, hands to his cheeks as he shouts across the chasm.

A large unicorn on the other side of the chasm pokes it's head behind some rubble and gives you an inquisitive look.

"We have a question for you. Has anyone else been to the clocktower and if so, when did they pass through?"

"Many people like yourself have come by, yes, most of them fall into the chasm, a select few have made it across. What they have been doing, I do not know. Most likely investigating the machine like yourself." Banrion admits.

"The people who succeeded, when did they get here?"

Banrion thinks for a moment. "A week ago? A tiefling. And then, later, a human."

Hamdel gestures towards the device. "Shall we see for ourselves?"

At mention of the other visitors, Kitsune’s excitement rapidly turns to concern. “Uh oh. Perhaps they’ve found other elements of this machine?  And perhaps...they’re not exactly...friendly?”

Thinking to herself...this is a concerning twist.

"Perhaps, but we've run into a lot of unfriendly things over the years, so what else is new? But, if you really think that we should be avoiding this individuals, we can just jump back eight days and take the gems before they do."

Alta nods. "If we don't have to risk it, no reason to," she agrees.

"Eight days it is, then!" Quickly reaching past Dalavash, Hamdel resets the board to take them back 8 days.

This discovery was certainly revolutionary. Eris wondered if, before they finalized a decision on what exactly to do with the machine and gems had they secured them, would they be willing to let her go back in time for more selfish reasons? She bit her bottom lip in thought. Perhaps after they gather the remaining pieces. After...

As you push the button, the control panel honks an arcane tone. You're not sure if it's a warning of some sort, but the gem pulses very faintly and slowly, as if it doesn't have enough power to execute the desired request.

In other words, the machine is out of juice and stops functioning.

Alta blinks. "What happened? That's not a good sound."

"It sounds like it's out of energy. Rebuilding this thing would be significantly easier if there were instructions on how to operate this thing or wasn't lost in the middle of the woods with nobody who knows how it's supposed to work."

Unfortunately, aside from missing pieces - which would most likely explain it's lack of power - you can't seem to tell why it's not working, but the honk definitely indicated to you it's out of juice.

“Perhaps it has a cool down period...?” Eris would suggest, a bit worried that it didn’t look to be working.

"Maybe, but it looks to me like it has something to do with those other gems being missing. So I'm guessing that the Tiefling that Banrion mentioned stole the gems that power this thing and now we have to find them, which won't be easy, since they've got a head start of about a week. Hopefully Banrion can give us a clue about which way they went."

"I'm not so sure about that - he doesn't seem the sort to keep track of such things very well. Wouldn't hurt to ask, but I believe we might be better served by a bit of division of labor, as Ozymandricus the Rustic used to say back as Mogschwartz. Perhaps those who have some skill in such things could scour the local forest for clues. I volunteer to wait here, to study the machine as it is. I will call if the Machine appears to recharge."

Kitsune raises her hand, literally, and excitedly announces “I’m an expert at tracking things in forests!”
