The crowd settles, though the factions still seem to be tense, Arvidsjaur manages to stave off war for another day.
The tabaxi warlocks go off about their business during the performance; same as the thri kreen warriors. The Firbolg, leader of the Jackanapes, approaches you.
"You have a commanding presence," she tips her hat to him. "You and your friends here can really command an audience. How about you all come back with us for a while and talk?"
Erik found himself impressed by Arvidsjaur's performance. He was used to taking the lead, being by himself most of the time, but he found it might be better to let him take the lead. He was on a roll with his performance. Perhaps he would be able to talk some sense into these jackanapes.
Scottie was sticking towards the back during the performance; making sure that the children and Braithe got through the crowd and to the mansion. After the performance, he'll approach the Firbolg.
"Hello, there. It's not every day that I see another firbolg. I see that you were impressed with Arvid here. Maybe, now we can all go and talk. We would love to know whats going on here."
OOC: Sorry for being a little absent. I had a wedding yesterday and this entire week was full of dealing with everything that comes with that.
The firbolg woman takes you to the residential district on the outskirts of the drama filled dock where you came in. By contrast, the residential area is almost dead. The sun is starting to set by the time you reach the district, and aside from passing a few cloaked tabaxi that spat on the floor as you pass, nothing of any consequence happens.
"I should introduce myself. My name is Aragwyn, but you can call me Gwyn." She approaches the biggest house in the neighbourhood and steps inside. As you step into the the entrance corridor the is a set of stairs leading to a second floor; on your left there is a lounge room filled with Jackanapes; and on your right, a young woman is laying on a table as a man presses a glowing fire poker across her eyes. She squeals as the smell of burning flesh fills the room. The other Jackanapes don't seem fazed. The woman is helped up by the man and given a leather eye patch which sits over her swollen eye.
"Rise, my sister," Aragwyn lifts the woman to her feet. "You are now a Jackanape: A warrior for peace and justice."
The woman from the table smiles to the party. "Looks like I'm no longer the newest recruit."
Erik's hand tightened on his staff at the sight...but he had made no other outward show of his displeasure. He waited for Arvid to speak, as he seemed in command of the situation for now, though Erik would lend him as much support as he could to make these talks go well.
(Erik will take the help action as needed to give Arvidsjaur advantage on persuasion rolls during the talks)
"Your performance abilities are the reason I invited you here." Gwyn smiles. "The people listen to you. I would like you to spread our message. We need to take the viceroy down. Overthrowing that selfish fool and closing down his ***** sister's Twisted Sister sinhouse is the only way the Isle can achieve peace. You need to go out there and tell the people."
"Whoa Gwyn. We just arrived. I don't know about overthrowing anything right now. We were kind of hoping you'd be able to tell us whats going on here. What has the Isle been up since the tiefling left?"
"Well," Gwyn smiles to Scottie, happy to see another firbolg, "We woke up one morning and they were gone. We all celebrated, but by the next day the tabaxi arrived, and the mantis warriors shortly after that. Hogstout managed to protect himself, his sister, and the wife and child we never even see because they're always of pampering themselves. That is why we must stop him: He doesn't care about the little people. We need someone who will stand for us."
"It is a symbolic gesture, committing to blind justice; not looking out for the wealthy like Hogstout. But above all, it is a way to publicly show allegiance to the Jackanapes. This mark is not something you can easily hide."
"Absolutely they do. Have you been to that sin pit the Twisted Sister. You know it's Hogstout's very own twisted sister, Madame Hogstout, that runs that place; and conveniently, she doesn't pay taxes on her business. Why do we all have to pay taxes to live when she doesn't pay anything for running the most successful business in town."
The people crowded in the living room all huddle together, pawing some kind of map. Gwyn notices that everyone can see the crowd.
"Look, I would invite you further, but nobody is allowed beyond the point unless they have made the commitment to blind justice. I cannot convince you to join?"
Erik held up his hand and spoke softly. "Milady, I apologize but I fear I myself cannot join the Jackanapes...however, I can assure you that I will do everything in my power to bring balance and justice to your town. I feel that we fight on similar sides."
"We do not fight on the same side," Gwyn snapped. "You are no different to the villagers that live here. You ***** and whine about something needing to be done, but you won't get off your arse and do it! There is a war coming, and if we don't cement ourselves into this problem and try to look for a solution, it will crush us."
Scottie is taken back by Gwyn's sudden outburst. "Look Gwyn. We can appreciate what you are doing right now; fighting for justice and peace for your home. But, we cannot just blindly join some group in a place we haven't been to and join in some war we know nothing about. We have our own war in Midgar to deal with. We were hoping to find support for that war here and hopefully figure out how to weaken and defeat the tieflings by seeking out their homeland."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Erik kept his anger in check at the sudden outburst. Temper had never served anyone well in this type of situation. Anger could be a force to be harnessed and channeled...but there was something deeper behind her outburst, he was fairly certain.
"Milady do not confuse us with those who do nothing, for that is the reason we have sought audience with you. To find allies in bringing peace and justice."
