Ralfi smiles gratefully at Salazar, and his heart flutters like a trapped moth ...as he spins the Ballista to face the deck of the ship. A fog-like thought snakes into his thoughts, making him suddenly feel faint...this is the real thing, now. Can I really kill a man? Can I really bring myself to do it? These people seem to take it lightly, as if it is something of a routine act...but these slavers are alive, just like me...they have throbbing hearts, wandering minds, maybe little ones to care for. Is it right to steal that from them?
Grim determination hardens the lad's expression, as his thoughts stray to the image of Bayo's corpse, and to that bastard who had harassed Claire earlier...they brought us here, against our will. They don't deserve any better.
Ralfi takes a breath as deep as the sea, and focuses the lethal bolt. This shouldn't be so complicated...I've used a crossbow before, so how difficult could this be?
In Ralfi's mind, his serene aplomb is only disturbed by a certain gentle *twang*....the eager tension of the hungry spear-shaft, as it bites at its taught string. It's almost as if this beastly thing is waiting to fire itself, thinks the lad.
You position yourselves carefully. Ralfi and Salazar man the ballista on the forecastle, whilst Nos Heliwr skulks nearby with his crossbow loaded. Claire and Vaclav stand on the starboard rail, at 90 degrees to the aft cabin door, Claire stood to the side but slightly in front of Vaclav.
The rage continues inside the aft cabins and Scraggs must be waking up half the ship with his cursing and shouting. You know he's coming but you don't know quite when he's going to arrive, nor who he'll be bringing with him. The tension slowly builds as you prepare.
Suddenly the aft cabin door bursts open and out rushes your nemesis. Scraggs is here! He's had time to pull on his leather armour which is covered with silver fish scales and glints in the moonlight. In one hand he holds a sea farer's cutlass and in the other is a razor-sharp dagger. He squints up at the moonlight and calls out "You scurvy dogs! Now is the time you'll die!" His gaze sweeps the group of you, spots Claire and Vaclav nearest and prepares to charge at you!

A blast of fire shoots from Vaclav's extended hand, slamming into Scragg's chest. It quickly burns out, though his smoking jerkin causes him to blink tears from his eyes. As he's doing so Nos Heliwr's crossbow bolt flashes across the deck, but he's with it just enough to twist slightly and the quarrel cuts a thin graze across his cheek, drawing blood. Then Ralfi let's fly and the first mate has to duck as the ballista flashes across the deck in the moonlight, but the bolt catches him and spins him in place.
Scraggs crosses the gap between himself and Claire faster than she imagined possible and her efforts to fend him off are easily batted aside by his dagger. Then Salazar utters a word of command at the terrible foe.
Wisdom Save (+2 versus DC 13): 16
Sadly for you, Scraggs is on the warpath and when he's annoyed, he's of one mind! He ignores the inbuilt suggestions implicit in Salazar's instructions and unleashes his full fury upon Claire.
Thankfully, Claire is fully alert and is able to use her glaive and skill to deflect the flurry of attacks aimed at her.
Claire: You can take your attacks for the end of Round 1. Everyone else: You can take your actions for Round 2, before Scraggs gets his Round 2 action. No need to wait for Claire to take her action. Scraggs is looking lightly wounded, but appears to have plenty of life left in him yet.
Claire grunts in a very unladylike way as she parries the heavy blows, then grits her teeth and marshals her strength to strike back, swinging her heavy glaive around towards Scraggs. She uses her momentum to reverse the strike and try to catch him unguarded with the back end of her glaive, a wordless cry of fury on her lips.
Vaclav carefully lines up another bolt of fire and launches it at Scraggs but the seadog ducks under a vicious slice of Claire's glaive and in turn the bolt flies over his shoulder, landing in the rigging on the far side of the deck. It has started a tiny fire which could expand if not tended to soon. Meanwhile Claire and Scraggs are trading blows but both are alert, awake and full of energy. The parries and counters come thick and fast and neither is able to land a telling blow.
Nos Heliwr, taking a deep breath, focuses on the side profile of the first mate and eyes carefully down the barrel of his crossbow. With Scraggs fully engaged with Claire and unable to take too much note of his surrounds the crossbow hits him in the lower leg, causing him to scream in agony. He's limping slightly but still fighting on.
Round 2 Acted already: - Vaclav - Nos Heliwr
To Go: - Ralfi - Salazar - Scraggs - Claire
Just waiting on Ralfi and Salazar's actions, before Scraggs gets his turn then Claire can attack again. Scraggs is now Heavilywounded.

With Salazar's help the ballista is rapidly reloaded. Ralfi takes aim a second time and there is a huge whooshing sound as the ballista bolt flashes across the deck in the moonlight. Scraggs grunts heavily as the spear strikes his armour and half spins him. He seems to be standing through sheer bloody-mindedness now. But standing he is. And the evil look in his eye tells you he does not have surrender on his mind.
Moving quickly for one so littered with wounds he closes inside Claire's reach and slashes at her with his scimitar but his weak blow does nothing more than bruise her through her chain armour. His follow up dagger thrust is getting desperate though and he draws blood, taking a nick out of the polearm warrior's forearm. He grins nastily at you. "I'll drain the blood from ye, land lubber, one drop at a time. You're mine..."
From below this deck, down in the lower deck you can hear muffled shouting and the pounding on a door. It seems someone is jammed in a cabin below, and trying to escape.

"Ugh!" Claire winces as the dagger finds purchase and pierces her. It's not much, but the sense of indignation rising within her at allowing this excuse for a human being to even scratch her is rising, alongside her temper. "I am my own, and you'd do well to remember that!" she yells, unleashing her fury against him in a rain of blows.
Nos Heliwr has Scraggs fully in his sights when, unexpectedly, Vaclav lurches forward to slap the first mate! The assassin has to pull his shot at the last second to avoid striking his companion and his shot goes wildly off target dropping into the sea some thirty feet below. But the noble's lurch and slap does connect with Scragg's body and little jolts of electricity sizzle across the fish scales adorning his leathers, making the armour smoke and smell like a tannery. Scraggs scowls in pain, unable to get away and Vaclav feels a certain sense of retribution.
Meanwhile Claire is focusing on trying to avoid the dagger and scimitar of her opponent, whilst timing her attacks to ensure she does not hit the crazy noble wizard who keeps getting the way! Perhaps Scragg's baiting is upsetting her fighting rhythm to, as she seems to be losing her temper.
Meanwhile, over on the forecastle, Salazar has helped Ralfi reloading the front ballista and the young street rat is lining up his next shot...
Just waiting for Ralfi to take his action for Round 3 (which I am assuming will be a shot with the ballista) , then it will be Scraggs' turn.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ralfi sees the struggle ensuing between Claire and Scraggs. An idea begins to formulate in his mind...could he use a shot from the ballista to trip Scraggs over the side of the ship? Maybe it was worth a try...(don't feel pressured to make anything special happen; I just thought Ralfi'd give this a try:) )
Ralfi clears his mind, focusing his aim down at Claire and Scraggs' nimble feet as they dance the waltz of death. Their blades whirr and hiss in the light drizzle, catching the moonlight perfectly ...from a distance, away from the real sweat and blood of the scene, one may mistake this for a well rehearsed ballet.

The ballista flies straight and true and thwacks right into Scraggs, just below his knee. He grunts in pain as his leg goes from under him, snapping in half. But there is something unnaturally driven about this man and he drags himself to his one working leg using the starboard rail and in a desperate attempt to injure someone lashes out mindlessly at Claire.
Scraggs has picked on the wrong opponent however. Claire's superior chainmail armour and the fact that she understands how to use it to eek every last bit of protection from the interwoven metal chains against the slashing attack of the first mate's scimitar mean that, despite his best efforts, all he is able to inflict on her are a couple more light bruises. He screams at her in frustration and rage.
Elsewhere, across the port rail a small fire has now taken hold and is getting close to climbing into the rigging. Someone really ought to do something about that. And down below you can hear the sounds of quite a few booted footsteps crossing the lower deck. It appears reinforcements are on their way - though possibly too late for the doomed Scraggs!
Round 3 is nearly over. Just Claire to have her attacks and then everyone else can pile in. It feels only fair, especially as Scraggs is literally on his last leg(s), to wait for Claire to have her turn, then everyone else can act.
The guards you locked into the lower cabin appear to have escaped. You'll find out how when and if you get a chance to get below decks later.
