The group - together with Elbows and Oceanus - crashes for the night. Between the gusty wind, the rocking and creaking boat, the slap of the whitecaps against the hull, and the threat of attack, it's not a great night's sleep. (Those who didn't take a watch gain the benefits of a long rest; those who did get a short rest and manage to stave off exhaustion for the day.)
Dawn breaks. No threats were sighted; no attacks attempted. The weather has abated somewhat. There's even a hint of sunrise beneath the gloomy cap of heavy clouds that never seems to quite clear.
The parrot is happily venturing into the skies around the ship, venturing further and further afield before returning to Katernin to beg for food. Elbows got little sleep; she's clearly battling some trauma triggered by the attack on the ship, but neither is she attempting to flee. Oceanus looks much improved after a night unshackled and some food from the galley.
“Well after our watch I sent FinFin to Saltmarsh once more. I’ll have them tell anyone and everyone the ship was stopped and where to find it, if need be. Since it’s not sailable as is, that’ll have to be enough for the council and if they ignore FinFin again then at least the effort was made...” Fianna says, annoyed but perhaps a bit more accepting after some rest. “Twice.”
“So up to us what we do,” she continues. “We were promised our take of any personal items the crew had so we can take what we can... then I guess it’s time for a group vote? Return to Saltmarsh and see what happens next? Head right into this plan to help Molo? Find a third solution? The one sure thing is I’ve got to set Elbow he onto dry land so she can go her way...”
"What valuables can we claim? I'm not a big one for treasures, but a dwarf's got ta earn his next pint. Once we've stripped the ship of anything we feel is rightfully ours, I'd agree a vote makes sense. I fer one would rather see Molo fixed. He took that injury working for the city and alongside us. It only feels right ta make 'im whole again ta me. So I vote for Molo."
Regardless of the outcome, he strides out to report to the group, discovers they've retired for the night, shrugs and returns to the tidy cabin for a bit of rest himself.
“I mean that FinFin flew the journey once already. Last night after we took the ship but before the last of the crew fled, I believe it was. FinFin found guards at the tower and through FinFin I advised what had happened. I sought help. I asked for FinFin to be brought to Fireborn or a message relayed. The guards were the typical louts we’ve encountered. They laughed, joked and began to get hostile. Perhaps the results will be better during the daylight,” Fianna offered. “I’m not holding my breath...”
“They weren’t frightened or startled. They were casual and joking about a voice coming out of the cute little dragon. They asked if FinFin would sing for them, and when I refused, told them lives were at stake, they started hefting stones at FinFin chanting ‘Sing! Sing! Sing or we’ll Sting!” Fianna explaines, turning her face away near the end as a tear starts sneaking from her eye.
Fianna stands and turns away before continuing, her arms wrapped tightly around her for support. “FinFin was already injured from the battle, I didn’t want those buffoons to kill them altogether, so I summoned him home. I know I should have been more patient... should have tried harder.., should have... should have...”
“I’m sorry,” She says finally, and walk away to the other end of the ship, still hugging herself.
“Yes... yes, I know.” Fianna says, visibly trying to pull herself together. “Just been a trying last 16 hours or so, hasn’t it? Guess it just kind of caught up to me all at once.”
Molo starts looking at the floor. “I mean... not... precisely... I was looking for that smuggler who escaped us- which seems pretty unbelievable that he got away from us, yeah? But then it’s possible I just lost my temper with some unpleasant people, and brought the building down on us all. It’s my own fault.”
Regardless of the outcome, he strides out to report to the group, discovers they've retired for the night, shrugs and returns to the tidy cabin for a bit of rest himself.
The key Kelnan found in the boot fits. The chest opens. A hidden booby trap releases a cloud of noxious gas, and Kelnan fights for consciousness. DC 12 Constitution saving throw: 12
Reeling, Kelnan manages to scramble out of the room before he is knocked out. The gas quickly dissipates, revealing the contents of the chest: clothing, a leather purse, a scroll, and a book.
A thin, cold rain begins to fall; the dawn disappears behind a bank of dark clouds.
Elbows keeps to herself. Oceanus begins to explore the ship, looking for clues. He unwraps the rest of the packages Molo found - the ones he had witnessed being loaded onboard. He lays out the contents in a visual inventory: 10 morningstars 10 longswords 10 shields 20 javelins 1 shield emblazoned on the front with the design of a lizard with forked tongue extended
He asks Fianna and Katernin,
"What have you learned of these weapons? Where were they bound, do you think? Enough to equip a small army. I do not recognize this shield design."
"Well, we did find a map which has an X on it a few miles away," Dain tells the group. "Me thinks that marks the base of the lizards. And we found some sort of order for weapons me thinks. Putting it all together it seems likes the lizard creatures is trying to get armed. That cannae be good for Saltmarsh. I dunno how many of them there be but those weapons is enough to heavily arm a score o' warriors. I think we should report this back ta the council, idiots though some of them may be."
Dain suggests we bring all the pieces of information together so that we can better understand what is going on. He suggests that someone translate the sea-elf's words and story and that Molo, Kelnan and Dain all share what they found with Katernin and Fianna. "Between us, me thinks we can build a picture."
(The two cabins belowdecks both contain unopened chests, boxes, and remain somewhat unsearched; there are also still some unexplored cabins behind closed doors in the bow of the ship, forward of the galley and lizardfolk quarters. As to the jolly boat, it is a sizable skiff with two sets of oars that could hold seven passengers but (in that case) no cargo other than what each can carry in their packs.)
(Unless you tell me otherwise, we will assume that anything that you have discovered on board and appears in this thread has now be shared with one another as public knowledge. Let me know if that's not the case. Although how much the Elvish-speakers share with Oceanus remains your decision. What information is Kelnan, Katernin, and Fianna sharing with him?)

Dain stretches and yawns. He didn't get a great night's sleep but he's too proud to complain.
"Mornin' all. So, what be the plan fer today, then?"
