(Most of the rooms on the ground floor have a single door; all have windows. Right now the party is in the scullery, in the NE corner of the house, next to the kitchen and back door where you entered.)
((First smallish room where it looks the door could be barred and perhaps window too. Fianna wants to joke up for a bit and record some HP before braving the trek home))
There are a pair of rooms just south of the kitchen which might fit Fianna's needs.
The old withdrawing room is just south of the side door hallway. The single door could be barricaded with the remains of an old, heavy, broken table in the room (perhaps reinforced with the wooden frames from two formerly-stuffed armchairs still standing near the fireplace.) The boarding over the two windows is relatively intact if somewhat rotten.
Across the hall from the withdrawing room is an old dining room. It's a bigger room, but it has a much bigger, very heavy, broken table which could be used to barricade. A broken chair sits against the wall between the windows, and there is a heap of broken dishes in the northwest corner. The windows are boarded up, although, like in other room, many of the boards are in bad shape. Both rooms have fireplaces.
Dining room it is! We’ll barricade door best we can, keep an eye on the window just in case, and do we want a fire? It could warm us and serve as deterrent to an attacker coming down the chimney. But could also signal where we are. If no fire, we should pile up the old dishes in the fire place so if something does come down the send them clattering and warn us.
"A rest would be welcome, but no fire. Let's not make it obvious we are here to someone who might not otherwise come tonight."
He says a clumsy, clearly unpracticed prayer for Lucky and assembles the best outfit he can of what isn't blood-soaked and torn. Before resting, he takes a few minute to place an Alarm on the doorway to the kitchen, to provide some warning should someone enter the house before they encounter the carnage below.
Kelnan takes a minute to place an arcane alarm on the kitchen door. (Is it a mental or audible alarm?)
The party moves into the old dining room, dragging Lucky with them. It takes four of you to lift the huge, broken table and move it in front of the door.
The chimney is too narrow to climb, but you place the broken dishes in the fireplace just to make sure.
Molo is still physically shaking after hearing the screams on the stairway. He hides under the broken chair, but has difficulty falling asleep.
Night has fallen outside. The rain has slowed, and it is very cold.
"Can you do that more than once?" Fianna asks Kelnan. "If you could do the door and window as well we may all be able to get some sleep. Otherwise we'll definitely need set a watch,..."
You settle down for the evening. It's far from comfortable. The floors are spongy and filthy and smell of must and mold. The house is bitingly cold, and the wind makes the old ruin creak and groan. Molo finally calms his nerves, or as much as he's able to with Lucky's lifeless body lying just a few feet away in the middle of this very unsettling house.
(Assuming Kelnan can't set any further alarms, is anyone setting a watch, or are you relying on Kelnan's kitchen door alarm, the barricaded door, and the dishes in the fireplace?)
(I presume three 4-hour watches, so that everyone gets a long rest? That would bring you just past sunrise, anyway, in these long winter nights. Who has third watch?)
It is near the beginning of Fianna's watch that Kelnan wakes up suddenly. Somebody or something has passed through the kitchen door (in which direction isn't clear.)
A moment passes silently. No sounds of footsteps, or voices, or any other indications of what the disturbance might be.
But then Kelnan notices a slight motion - something is very quietly trying to push open the door. The massive table blocking the door isn't going anywhere, however, at least not without a whole lot of noise and commotion. The motion stops. Silence returns.
Kelnan and Fianna are now quite wide awake. Everyone else is fast asleep. (OOC: Long rest not complete, just a short rest right now.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((Well Fianna would use a hit die during the short rest... 8 ))
Fianna would give Kelnan the universal "Shhhhh" signal and move as quietly as she could to stand next to the window. She's trying to both keep out of sight of anyone trying to peek un while also glancing out of the window to see if anyone is out there. She won't wake anyone yet, if this is just some passing whatever then perhaps they can still get a full rest...
In Kelnan's sloppy attempt to hide behind the fireplace, he manages to knock two bricks out of the crumbling chimney. The fall with a clatter on the floor. That wakes Katernin up. (Molo and Reed continue snoozing.)
Fianna tries to drag/herd everyone to one of the first floor office type rooms, one that only has one door, preferably one with no window if possible.
Katernin goes along.

Kelnan nods his approval at the dining room plan.

Molo will try to hide in a corner, under whatever detritus there may be, and sleep.

We rest. Or do our best to do so.
((Mental alarm!))

Katernin will take the first watch, watching over Lucky's body and praying to Ehlonna until it's time to switch watches.

Fianna will take middle watch. So long as she can sit still and doesn’t need patrol, she’s happy!

Kelnan nods at Fianna and attempts to hide himself away behind the fireplace. Stealth: 4

The house remains quiet.
Well if the quiet persists and the rest of Fianna's watch goes smoothly, she wakes up the next watch and tries to get some rest herself.
