Ooc: Oh! I thought we were separated, as we went to scout the room when the others were at the chasm's edge. Maybe I was wrong?
(OOC: yeah that's what I thought too but since we're doing this theater of the mind style and we didn't get directions as to what happened outside of a cut and paste room description I figure it's better everyone is on this side with us than split. So now we are.)
Sol also yells back at the others, "Leave the rubble, we have our trouble here. From the sounds of that message, Brin is only the first of us to fall."
He beckons them forward and asks them " what is it that you seek; power, riches, knowledge, or thrill?"
Karney raises his sword and cries, "All of the above!"
Initiative 1d20+1: 21
"Hmm interesting...I think you should meet the magma mater, she will guide you." He flicks his hand and you pass through the walls like it was water...
Sol looks at the bull and then at the soldiers. She yells at the bull, "I choose the sword, but I wont be dying today." Turns to Quin, "Are you up for this?" She will draw her two short swords and prepare for battle.
Initiative (without modifier +3): 8
Ok then be it the sword...I sword suddenly falls out of the roof in front of you. The third soldier comes out of his place. He is built for speed, lean and slender and he carries a javelin your of your size. He examines you and redies for combat.
The other ghosts move to the side, their body flickering a bit. They do not seem like ghosts but more like fluid humans but it is clear they do not belong to this world. A force suddenly pins everyone else to the far wall of the chamber. It is quite clear this is a pit challenge, a one on one fight. To death or knock down you do not know.
He is ready for attack but he does not do it. He looks you in the eye and it is quite clear that he is waiting for you to attack first.
"Well I sure don't plan on dieing here by either. Orion leave those be, I think we have bigger problems here." ,says Quin as he set his lantern down and moves a bit to the side. "I'll take knowledge to get the rest" he answers as his hand drifts closer to a dagger.
Initiative: 17 +3
(OOC: just so we're on the same page we're all in the same room. Rock fall didn't seperate us. Looks like Brin's either out or on his own at the bottom of the chasm. Still not sure about that. Looks like another puzzle to solve. )
The last soldier...no not a soldier but a priest steps ahead and you fall to the floor from your wall captivity. He is dressed in a toga with a belt in which lies a dagger. He wears a clock embroidered with gold. His face is very regal but you can see the wisdom in his eyes. You look in his eyes and suddenly you stand in smaller chamber attached to the main room where the combat is taking place. You are separated by a glass wall.
Your opponent offers you a stool to sit by a stone table marked with runic symbols and sits on the other side. Then he points to 20 gems kept on the table and says " you can start by taking out 1, 2 or 3 gems in each turn. The same applies to me. The person or being who takes the last gem will win. The other will sadly have to become the winner's servant, bound to serve him for eternity. And it is clear you cannot cheat or the result is a painfull death."
Then he takes 1 stone and keeps it on one side of the table.
"Don't worry I won't have to cheat to beat you. In fact if you like I could save us time and explain how you've already lost." He says, hoping the false bravado masks the quiver of fear.
Sol is slightly perturbed that the entity is singling them out one by one, but is excited at the opportunity to prove herself. Seeing that the soldier is waiting for her to attack first, she knows her first attack needs to be unexpected. She runs towards the soldier but at the last second she drops low to slide and uses her shortsword to slide at his legs.
Attack (not including +5): 14
Damage if a hit (not including +3): 3
Using her momentum from her first attack, she will swing her second sword to slice upwards diagonally on the soldiers torso as she spins to her feet.
Attack (not including +5): 1
Damage if a hit: 4
If both the attacks hit (I think that's how it would work), he will take an additional 1d8 (8) damage because of colossus slayer.
Ooc: The DM has responded to those that had answered the spectral's question. (How would you like to die, Sword or Fire? and What do you seek, Knowledge, Power, Riches or Thrill) My understanding is everyone else was pushed against the wall to stay out of the way of the fight.

Your swords come towards him like lions out for blood and the diagonal cut is right in the perfect place. But wait....wasn't he supposed to move or atleast cry in pain after that hit. The swords had passed right through him. He grins at you and then as fast as lightning, the but of his spear pummels you in the gut.
"Don't worry I won't have to cheat to beat you. In fact if you like I could save us time and explain how you've already lost." He says, hoping the false bravado masks the quiver of fear.
Ok then let me take 3 more from here...and he picks up 3 more gems.
Quin takes 1. A quick count shows him that there are 12 gems left. The fear begins to lose its grip. A confidence begins to grow as he does some mental calculations. He realizes as long as he leaves a multiple of four on the table at the end of his turn he will be the victor. For once the number of gems gets to 4 no combination of gems that his opponent removes will leave Quin unable to draw the final gem. A sudden thought pops in the young thiefs head.
What if I trade his servitude for the lives of the others? Can't hurt to try.
To the man seated across from him, Quin says, "How about We make a deal. When I win I will release you from your service to me if you release my companions regardless of their choice of challenges and grant them the prizes for each. Also allow us all to pass. If not I promise as my servant you will spend the rest of my life doing the most vile and demeaning of tasks as penance. "
Sol reels from the jab at her but, but collects herself. She recognizes that her attacks, although landing in the right place, are not causing damage to the ghost. She looks around for something that may be controlling the spectral image. Does the bull statue still have glowing eyes?
Knowing that it is only a matter of time before her opponent strikes again, Sol will attempt to disarm the soldier by taking a swing at his javelin with her sword. After all it felt real....didn't it? Sol questions her skills in this competition and starts to second guess her choice.
Attack? (without +5 modifier): 2
Damage (although it didn't deal damage at first): (1d6 without +3): 4
OOC: Are we still going? Are we waiting on a condition to be met? I'm not asking what it is just IF it is. Hey and I liked the puzzle. I'll be honest I kinda got lucky. I guessed at my first selection before I figured out the pattern. It would have been real hard to come back from a wrong first choice.

Ooc: I like together better. :)
Orion stops with the rocks and grab his staff, ready for whatever comes next.
Quin grabs his lantern and takes two steps towards the door via a route that keeps him as far from the spectral warrior as possible.
