"Frilis thinks that too many of you together is a bad idea. No one truly understands these 17 yet, so it's best to keep things the way they are." Jullar says. "Even though four of you were just together." He adds.

“I will take responsibility for what I have done. [...] If must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer.
"That would explain why he knew so much about this whole destiny thing, then." Kallista ponders for a moment, staring down into the water.
"This is just a thought, and I very well could be wrong," she starts tentatively, glancing up at the group. "If Knurath is trying to return, perhaps we are what stands in his way. The seventeen of us, that is. Maybe there is something about us being together that makes us easier for him to locate, which is why Frillis doesn't want us gathering in large groups."
"That, or 'haps the seventeen are the ones ta stop him. If they're tagether, it's easier ta get rid o' the competition... so ta speak," Orimdal pipes in, having sat listening to the conversation quietly to the side, "It's how I'd do it anyways. I remember this upstart gnome tryin' ta run me outta business years ago. Poisoned most o' me suppliers against me, thinkin' that I'd only use the locals fer my smithin' an' leather-workin'. Little did that gnomish prick realise that I actually got a good portion o' me supplies elsewhere an' better quality stuff at that."
Fletcher is suddenly assaulted with a stunning psychic pain (no damage done). Your vision suddenly goes black, and a light begins to form in your mind. Muffled voices follow, and slowly it all becomes clearer, more understandable. You see Frilis, dressed in purple robes with silver trim, along with eight other men in similar garb. They stand around a floating table, upon which is a map of the continents. This map doesn't appear to be drawn, however, and instead seems to be an illusory model of them in a three-dimensional fashion. The voices become clearer, and you can make out what they say.
"We must move quickly. If he is truly after the 17, Knurath must be defeated." One says. "Frilis, what is it you have learned about them?"
Frilis leans out over the table. "Through my meditations, I have learned that we posses a great power. I have not yet learned the nature of this power or what it does, nor how to harness and use it." He hangs his head. "But I fear it is this power that Knurath needs."
Hushed whispers fill your mind, as the other wizards speak amongst themselves. "Silence!" The first man commands. "If this is true, you along with all of the rest must be protected. Is there any way to locate them?"
Frilis shakes his head. "Not that I am aware of. Knurath must know a way though, otherwise he would never know who he needs."
"Damn. Then we must end this conflict. Is the spell complete, Hendus?" The first man asks, turning to the man next to him. "Yes, it's prepared, Tirien. But there's a slight complication...' He trails off. "Out with it, man!" Frilis exclaims. Hendus jumps. "It requires five of us, and with the little time I had to craft it, it may prove too much for the five casters to handle, and it could kill them all." The room goes silent.
"Worry not, friends." Tirien says. "We five started this." He points to himself, Hendus, and three other men. "We will be the ones to end it."
Suddenly, the image becomes blurry, and it fades in and out of focus. The voices warble, becoming unintelligible. You see Frilis turn to you. Though his voice is muffled, you hear him say, "Focus. Focus!"
Then everything fades away. The last thing you hear is a deep, sinister laugh.

Kallista notices Fletcher wince and then appear to zone out entirely. "Fletcher?" When there's no response, she repeats his name more insistently, waving a hand in front of his glassy eyes. Again, nothing. "What's going on?" She asks the group, though she doubts anyone will have an answer.
As Fletcher snaps out of his vision, he falls to the ground. Dark rings surround his eyes, and the blood leaves his cheeks, leaving him deathly pale. In his eyes, you see the glint of fear that he usually tries so hard to hide. He tries to stand, but collapses to his knees again. Turning to look at Jullar, he speaks in a barely audible whisper "You need to turn the boat around"

Jullar, a concerned look on his face, nods in understanding. He turns to the captain, who clicks his tongue.
"I was payed to take this boat to Mazyliak. So that's where she's going. You fools can try to turn it around." He chuckles slightly, looking over his left shoulder to a sudden mass of writhing water. "But good luck with that."
A huge serpent erupts from the water, towering over the boat nearly 50 feet. It's maw hangs open, showing off its impressive arsenal of teeth. Two green-yellow eyes scan the deck, eventually fixing on you and Jullar with intense malice. Along the creatures back runs a massive spined frill, and similar fins hang off its underside. Several tendrils writhe from the back of the monster's head, and two horns protrude out, giving it a very demonic look.
The captain laughs, his laugh slowly becoming different. It gets deeper, more sinister. His body begins to change as well. His clothes tear and fall off as his limbs contort to a different form, one that you are familiar with. The forest. The first encounter with Knurath's minions. The big one that got away. He waves his hand sarcastically as his wings carry him up towards the clouds. "My master needs you, but we know where another one of you is now. Feel free to die." He turns and flies away full speed, as the serpent lets out a defeaning roar that seems to shake the boat, almost to the point that it will fall apart.

"Godsdamnit. Cant you leave a man to die in peace?" He looks towards the serpent grimacing "I dont suppose you would lay down and make yourself into calamari for us? no? I thought not." He draws his blade "Sushi it is."

With Fletcher coming back to himself, Tender turns, eyes widening at the sight of the serpent. "I distinctly remember saying I didn't want to fight one of them," she complains, her tail lashing nervously. "Why does this keep happening to us," she adds, feeling unsure. Fighting over the water seems frightening, and she's not sure how she'll reach the creature, but she falls into a fighting stance anyway.

At Fletcher's sudden... episode or whatever may have occurred to him, Evi turns towards him with a sense of dread. Could what happened to him happen to her or her friends as well? Before she could think anymore, Fletcher returned to himself and she was once again thrust into another dire situation; this time abandoned to die on a rickety boat with a sea serpent bearing down on them. The combination of it all plus the previous stress of mentally preparing herself to return to Koria for the first time was too much for her to handle in the moment and she dropped her line and laughed. First slowly, then uncontrollably to the point that tears were streaming down her face and she was gasping for air, "Sorry!" she managed to squeak out in-between laughs. "This is just..." another laugh, "I don't know why..." another laughing fit, "Why does this keep..." she tried a final time before her laughing grew wild enough that she gave up on speaking entirely. Turning away from her friends towards the sea creature, she prepares herself for the worst.

Kallista heaves a sigh. "Of course the captain is one of those winged idiots," she mutters to herself, exasperated. "Of course there's a giant serpent trying to kill us. Because why would anything in our lives be easy?" She yanks the bow from her back, glaring up at the massive creature.
