Kallista smiled as the elven man made his announcement to the tavern. Just as she had suspected, there were others also looking to complete the tasks but needing assistance to do so. Standing from her low table in the corner of the room, she made her way to the counter where the man sat, bringing her half-eaten plate of food with her. She sat on the empty stool next to him.
"It seems we have similar goals. I would be glad to accompany you and split the rewards. Did any of the notices in particular catch your eye?"
"Haha good to hear another sets their eyes on adventure. They all look rather interesting, however the noble will probably pay well, but I'm also inclined to help the Northenders expand for their people." The high elf sits, thinking for a moment, then continues, "I'm Lumaris. Archer and scout. You are?" He extends a hand as he says this.
"Kallista." She greeted shortly, shaking the elf's hand with her own gloved one. She pointedly avoided listing her profession like the man had - what exactly would she say? Thief? Outlaw? Nothing she could think of sounded particularly savory. Turning to the newcomer, she said, "To be quite honest, I'm in it for the gold. If the noble will provide the best pay, I say we speak with them." Once the other tiefling commented on the pay, Kallista felt comfortable enough doing so herself. If her new partners were taking jobs for some righteous cause or another, she didn't want to seem like the black sheep.
Ravana worked her way through a number of juru, moving from tapak to langkah and back again as she slowly danced across the space. She waved to curious children as she completed each juru and smiled at the frowning of confused looking adults.
Her eyes occasionally drifted back to the inn and those inside perhaps deciding her fate.....work first...socialising later...
"True enough, gold opens more opportunity," Lumaris agrees with Kallista and the newly joined tiefling. "The human that just walked out front was also in search of help for job postings, we may as well check with her too," he then spins on his chair to face Tavryn, "Sorry to interrupt your perusing of your note half-elf," he smiles courteously, "Perhaps you'd care to join us for some monster hunting at a noble's expense? With you and the human, it'll make five of us."

Bribes aren’t usually cheap and some having some more cash to aid the search for the heirloom makes sense...Tavryn thought to himself at the invitation from Lumaris.
“That sounds like a reasonable plan. I’m in.” Tav folded the parchment and returned it to his pocket. “I’m Tavryn. I appreciate the invite.”
”I’ll see if our hosts have any additional information on the jobs...”
OOC: DM, I’d still like to have Tav check with the Halfling brothers on the job details. In addition, at some point prior to leaving the town (in general) to pursue any job Tav will try to search for the amulet/ heirloom as described previously in my earlier post. Trying to help facilitate a group while trying to pursue his goals. Thanks!
Hey guys, great replies so far, I'm writing up and editing some replies at the moment. Shoutout to Oberan for some great suggestions: I created a campaign here and will PM you the link to it, and I've also drawn a quick and dirty map to give you a sense of location, please excuse my terrible art skills.
for the group would you rather:
A) Hit up the shops then go to where the group decides where they want to go
OOC: Tavryn would definitely prefer to get some area intel and heirloom hunting first BUT if he encountered any significant money resistance (bribes, heirloom offered for sale beyond his purse, etc) he’d prob push for heading out to a job. He’d still want to talk to the Twin Halflings first though for at least some bare minimum intel before just wandering forth...
I also wouldn’t want to hold up the group for individual role-play hooks either. Party on.
"Good idea, Tavryn," Lumaris smiles at his new comrade (I'm assuming everyone has introduced themselves, but we can RP it as well if you want). "Gathering some information on our surrounds before heading out is definitely a best practice. Perhaps we look around town and inquire at the shops hereabouts and anyone can do some shopping for supplies that they feel they need at the same time?"
INSIGHT: Tavryn takes stock of the patrons that pass through as breakfast is served: several are clearly armed and armored, and, much like you, some pass by the postings up front to check on the listings of the day. Many are groggy and the small disparate groups tend to keep to themselves.
INVESTIGATION: You've received missives from this contact before: you know that many times there are hidden meanings, double entendres, and secrets to be revealed even in the simplest letter. You know there may be a message hidden within, but no idea of how to find it or where to look.
The newly formed group of adventurers, having been acquainted, feel a strange rush swell within: whether the call of adventure or the repercussions of eating a pile of bacon, eggs, potatoes, peppers, and onions covered in gravy, destiny awaited them.
The proprietors of the establishment are the halfling twins Cedrick and Pyter: Cedrick tends to man the bar while Pyter cooks. They are more than happy to supply you with details regarding the job posting between preparing orders:
Regarding the quarry Cedrick: "Eh, some dwarven merchant got it in his head to set up shop due East. They got funding from a big mining company, far as I understand, so they have decent coin, but..." Pyter: "They view you as expendable, mate." Cedrick: "Right... but from what I understand they've scouted a few likely mine locations, go in, kill whatever's there, get paid."
Regarding the Noble Pyter: "Lord's name is Valtyr de Reynes. His estate is West of town. He's always... How do I explain this... Very civic-minded that one." Cedrick: "Most skirmishes on a single mile of road, I swear." Pyter: "Well, with the war, there aren't really many soldiers patrolling the countryside, so along with bandits there are stories of creatures attacking travelers. Lord Valtyr is enthusiastic about hunting, and probably wants some of the beasts stuffed."
Regarding the Northenders: Cedrick: "Bloody horrible what happened to them. I heard there was a knight: Lady Mathilda Van-Cliffe, real keen on leading some groups North, setting up scouting posts, that deal." Pyter: "Bloody suicide. I heard the raiders are eight foot tall owlbears and carry warhammers made of dragon's teeth." Cedrick: "Yeah, and do you want that in charge of things around here? Anyway, my heart goes out to them, but we're innkeepers, not warriors."
Regarding the shops each brother gives a full-throated endorsement of each establishment and assure you of the fairness of their prices.
Tavryn: the brothers don't know anything about the amulet, unfortunately, they offer that a fine piece should certainly be easy to remember among the merchants, whoever they went to.
"Sounds like a plan." Kallista found herself nodding along as he spoke. "So it will be the four of us and potentially the human outside?" This was certainly a larger group than she was anticipating, but she could work with it.
"Well the barkeeps have given us some good tidbits of information to go off with those jobs. I'm in no need of gear at this point, but will happily accompany anyone as they explore town." Lumaris finishes his meal and jumps up from his stool, heading for the door to check in on the human out front about joining the group and to explore wherever his new comrades would like to go. When he finds the human, "Good morn to you, traveller. Some rabble and I in the tavern have banded together to attempt some of the jobs posted on the board here. I wondered if you'd care to join in on some work and adventure? I'm Lumaris, by the way."

Ravana cocked her head as the man approaches and lifted out of horse-stance, " Ravana, certainly. Which job?"
She picked up the small shoulder bag beside her, " Ready."
"We've not decided on a job just yet," Lumaris nods to the door and the others inside, "They'd like to get a lay of the land first, gather a little intel, then we'll head out on a job. Though, the consensus seems to be working for the noble."

" Very well. Monster Hunting it is then."
" Hopefully not too many of us will die.", Ravana indicated the inn. " So intel? Where do we find that? People. Asking questions about the noble. That sort of thing?"
"I would assume so, though some might wish to buy some things as well. I'm sure that we will be fine Ravana, especially if we don't be foolish in our actions. Is there anything you wished to purchase? We can join the others."

In the interest of trying to get us moving and not completely drive our DM crazy with fragmented threads...
IC:
"Alright then," Tavryn says to the group as it more or less reforms in the dining area of the Inn, "It sounds like most would prefer to offer our services to Lord Valtyr de Reynes? I have no objections. I'm sure his coin spends as well as any other. Our Halfling hosts mentioned his estate is to the west of town. I propose we gather what supplies we need and set out mid morning. I'd like to check a few things at some of the local shops and then I'll be ready to depart. So, meet back here ready to leave in maybe 2 hours? Everyone agree?"
OOC:
If the group is in agreement then Tavryn will make haste to the the Three Eyed Raven followed by White Shield and Silver Crown.
At both locations Tavryn will try and determine if either has potential shady business practices and/links to a thieves guild etc. He will try to inquire about a gold backed amulet with a silver dragon carved in relief on its face. If pressed on why he is looking for it he will try and determine the type of person he is speaking to and their motives. (insight I assume) Based on the results he will then claim he is either:
1) a son looking for a family heirloom (seemingly trustworthy common person)
2) a private security antiquities hunter working for a dealer in Myteric from whom it was stolen.
3) an undercover constable from Myteric that is trying to track down the thieves who stole it and recover the item as evidence
DM, please feel free to roll checks as you feel appropriate. Lastly, Tavryn will freely spend money on bribes or whatever required in his pursuit. At the appointed time, however, he will be back at the Inn and ready to set out...
