The Tales of Faerûn - Campaign Thread

Saravena squats down and puts a reassuring hand on the goblin's shoulder, "Best not lie to us or the big guy won't be too happy, you saw what he did to your friends, you lie and there is not much we can do to stop him."

The goblins begins, "Well, I come from a small family and grew up in a cave around here. Me and my six brothers..."

Tagret kicks him again "Don't try to be cute.....who do you serve now and what are your current orders that see you and your band set upon travellers?"

The goblin groans in pain after Tagret kicks him in the stomach, "Ouch! You asked where I come from!" After a moment he recovers from the blow. "I serve King Grol. Every goblinoid, around these parts, serve King Grol. You will be hard-pressed to find a goblinoid that doesn't serve him. He rules over his territory with an angry fist. No one will dare challenge him, not with that bugbear and wolf he keeps by his side.

As for orders, our orders are to ambush any travellers in the hopes of collecting more gold and other items of value for the king."

"And where can we find King Grol exactly?" Saravena asks sweetly. "Would he happen to reside in Cragmaw Castle?"

"Are you affiliated with the Orcs stationed around Wyvern Tor?"

The goblin is quick to reply, "Yes, yes. King Grol reside in Cragmaw Castle. We're part of the Cragmaw Tribe... or were... and he is our king." He then looks at Damian. "Orcs? In Wyvern Tor? Nothing to do with us, I swear. That's not part of King Grol's territory. We wouldn't be caught working with no stinkin orcs."

"Were?" Tagret asks as the goblin starts to talk about Cragmaw Tribe "What do you mean, were?"

"I mean that most of us are dead," the goblin snaps back. "They can't be part of the Cragmaw Tribe if they're dead can they? Now will you let me go!"

The goblin then begins to try and struggle with the ropes.

Saravena flicks the goblin's ear, "Stop that. If everything you said was true, and you ask really nicely we might just let you go, but if you keep struggling then you won't be getting out of here alive."

In response to Saravena's threats, the goblin stops struggling.

"Everything I told was true."

Continuing with his succesful intimidation theme "Well, we have been told by other goblin folk that Cragmaw Castle is doing just fine, and that it is behind the trouble in the area.  If it is not the Cragmaw Tribe, then who?  I am already growing weary of the fact that nothing you have said has any value.....and you are bargaining for your life.  We are looking for a friend who was taken to Cragmaw, what can you tell us of the place, the inhabitants and the King?" 

"You're twisting my words," the goblin complains. "Look, it's like I told you King Grol is in charge of Cragmaw Castle. He is the king of the goblins and other goblinoids in the area. You know bugbears and hobgoblins. They're all part of the Cragmaw Tribe, you see. We follow his orders, that's the trouble you mean right? His orders. It's him you have an issue with, not me. I'm no one, but he is the king."

The goblin rocks himself until he is on his front and then struggles to his knees.

"But the orcs. They're not part of the tribe. We don't deal with no stinkin' orcs."

He then spits on the ground beside him.

"They ain't no goblinoid.

As for you friend, I take it you mean the dwarf? He is the only one that we captured recently. He is up at the castle. I don't know what condition he is in. King Grol didn't need him after he got the map.

But you want information of value? Oh I know, you came from Phandalin, right? I saw you come from down there. So you must have heard of the Redbrands, right? Well they often come to the castle to talk to King Grol. Whoever the leader is, I think they want to work with King Grol."

“Now that is something useful! How far is the castle from here?”

"It's not far from here, just a little further north. Now, will you please let me go?"

“We could but what’s from stopping you from telling your tribe we’re coming? You wouldn’t rat on us would you?” 

Persuasion: 18

OOC: This sort of information is what Sildar would want, with evidence if possible.  Delivering this goblin up to Sildar would provide him a way to discredit the redbrands.....how far have we travelled and is it worth a quick trip back to town with this goblin?

"That is some claim.....but just words unless you have evidence.  What can you give us to confirm your story?"

(DM Note: You've walked twenty miles from Phandalin.)

"I've got nothing," the goblin admits, hanging his head in defeat. "But... but you will see them when you get to the castle, I'm sure of it."

"While that information is useful, we can't use it right now," Saravena says with a sigh. "So is seems our plan is still to go to the castle. The only question now is what do with do with this one?"

Saravena turns to the goblin and asks, "If we let you go what would you do? Where would you go?"
