(ooc: @DM, did we only defeat the one that caught on fire? Any remains to be had?)
(Only One had fallen, the rest escaped. Got the one corpse.)

The cellar door opens and Torbin and his family emerge... His wife and his son are shaking gently, but Torbin nods appreciatively. "...Thank ya, lad. I 'onestly appreciate what you've done." He says, hugging his son gently. "...Heard quite the commotion... What in the hells was that?"
Of course, with all the screeching from the monsters, there was going to be a response from guards as a group of five humans can be seen running towards the party, weapons drawn. They're still a bit a ways away, so the party has time to decide on what they are going to do.
'There was an attack.' Kalgren waved his hand in an arcane gesture and a miniature version, about half the actual size, of the creature they had fought appeared floating in mid air above the two. 'Four of these and a larger, more muscular one. They seemed primitive yet not devoid of a certain cunning. They tried to swallow up one of my colleagues which explains the disappearances. And their talons have been leaving these strange markings around town.'
Another wave of his hand and the image faded away. 'They can burrow through the ground and slip through cracks. I advise you'd take the necessary precautions until we have this figured out. Pass the word around town: forewarned is forearmed. And if there is anyone who knows anything more, do point them towards us. Goodbye, mister Torbin.' With that said Kalgren walked back outside to join the others.
'What now, lads?' He asked the others, his tone a bit jovial to offset the ordeal they just went through. 'Personally I'm looking forward to a comfy bed but that's probably going to have to wait.' He nodded towards the oncoming guardsmen.
"Grell thinks someone should grab those remains before the guards are in range... just in case..." the Dragonborn says to the others as he turns to see the guards approaching.
"Rest would also be appreciated, if we are gifted a reprieve from any more madness tonight, my mind is still reeling from being nearly eaten..." Grell adds, with a hint of a forced grin.

"Agreed," Zack replies, "I unfortunately don't have a way of hiding this... thing. Though I can quickly try to gather information on it while you talk to the guards." With that, Zack kneels next to the corpse and begins looking it over, taking notes as he does (Investigation: 13).

Zack somehow gets the corpse down from the roof then (*handwave* DM magic) and studies it as best he can. It's fleshy, has a notably well developed stomach (no doubt for containing prey), and seems... very underdeveloped otherwise compared to most creatures. The talon is quite sharp, and the beak seems to have variable hardness... Nevermind the strange sinewy connections between it's "jaws".
The guards approach, and seeing everyone is mostly unharmed, they lower their weapons but do not put them away. "What happened here?" One of them asks, while the youngest among them looks over at Zack and the body of the creature.

Grell stands tall and crosses his arms as the guards reach them, his mighty Golden bulk remaining mostly still in the cool night breeze. After their recent experience, Grell had little left in him, least of all patience.
"Another attack, but this time there were those here to prevent it" he growls with no subtly at his contention in his tone, taking a bold step closer to them to emphasise his meaning.
(...intimidate with advantage :D ...Strength based if you wanna, cause let's be honest... you're a brick wall of dragonborn muscle)

"O-Oi, we were trying to figure it out!" One of the other guards says. All five of them seem... rather meek in comparison to how they were before Grell spoke up.
"...You uh... N-None of you are hurt, yes?" The 'leader' guard asks, looking over everyone. "Or uh... do we have to attend to those injuries?"

Grell takes another step toward the guards, his heavy bulk thumping loudly into the dirt as he stops an arms length away from the nearest guard, the one that spoke up. Exhaling audibly from his nostrils, the Gold Dragonborn grumbles in reply, "The ones that live here remain unharmed, yes."
He looks over all of the guards, glaring at each for a second, before returning his gaze upon the "lead" guard. "Now what do you do... guard...?"
Grell was not worried that he'd do anything stupid, he was beginning to get too tired to start anything, but they didn't know that...

"W-We'll uh... c-come back later to compile our report for the captain... W-Why don't you fine gentlemen go rest up...?" He stammers, everyone putting their weapons away now seeing as there is no current threat... Besides the big angry dragonborn that the humans REALLY don't wanna mess with.

There's something to be said for the direct approach. Kalgren mused as he watched Grell verbally tear the guards a new one.
'Thank you for your concern, gentlemen.' He smiled at the five men. 'Always good to know the authorities have a lid on things.' He was about to walk off back to the inn for some well deserved rest when he turned on his heels. 'We would also like a word with your captain the coming day, if that is not too much to ask. Much obliged.'
Without waiting for a reply, Kalgren walked away, only stopping momentarily when he passed Grell. 'You okay there, big fella?' He asked with some concern seeping into his voice.
Grell nods to Kalgren, "Grell will be fine after some rest. Let us just hope there are no further attacks tonight..."
The Dragonborn moves with Kalgren, hoping that their path will take them back to the inn.
(ooc: is that what we're going for? Back to the inn for morning? Or do you guys want to push to see if we can't find where they're burrowing off to? Grell would just need a short rest in that case)

While all this was happening, Zack continues his investigation, making notes as he goes. He looks at the marks made by the creatures on the walls and the burrows they dug to escape, trying to see if these fresher trails offer anything that might help them find where the creatures originated (Investigation: 18).
Vigil walks over to Zack and the creature's remains. He observes Zack's investigation for a moment, before crouching down and trying to ascertain the nature of this creature. He starts making a mental note of all features he can think of. Sharp talons...for burrowing and to defend itself. Stomach large enough to contain a very muscular fully-grown male adult dragonborn. Beak that can stretch to swallow said dragonborn in one gulp. We should have a better look at it tomorrow. The tiefling then attempts to pick up the creature and carry it back with him like a potato sack. Before leaving, he turns back to Zack. "Once you're done here, you should come back to the inn. We'll all need some rest after today."
While all this was happening, Zack continues his investigation, making notes as he goes. He looks at the marks made by the creatures on the walls and the burrows they dug to escape, trying to see if these fresher trails offer anything that might help them find where the creatures originated (Investigation: 22).
Aside from the fact the marks are very much made by their talons, it is impossible to discern where they may have come from. Their tunnels collapsed back on themselves quickly. That said, Zack would recall the party did originally find the creatures digging near the river when they had their prey.
As Vigil picks up the creature corpse, it practically "melts," like said sack of potatoes. Whatever structure it had seems to be gone... Or is it just because it is dead so it doesn't need to hold its own structure anymore?

Seeing the creature practically disolve in his hand, Vigil is looks puzzled at first. Then, he realizes that this provided a very valuable information about these things. He needed to share this discovery with the others. So he began to make his way to the Blue Cask inn, hoping Zack wasn't to far behind.
