Kalgren, meanwhile, would find himself sitting across from Wulfa again. "Well, I find that stories often tell tales of magic that offer interesting insights into the mages of the time. Goliath shamanistic tradition is a good example of such things. Druidic magic, basically... but occasionally Nature Clerics, with Spiritual Weapons." The man laughs a bit. "Plus, it uh... helps intersperse the nitty-gritty of arcane theory and eases the headache."
Kalgren nodded sagely. 'Stories are an excellent method to pass the drudgery of everyday life.'He took a last sip and finished his tea. 'I do wonder,'Kalgren said as he put away the empty cup, 'You and the people of this town style you as the town's wizard, despite your self-admitted claim that you can't perform magic. While I admire the dedication to the pursuit of knowledge, why chase something you cannot achieve?'
"It's less about not being able to achieve it and more about the knowledge. Sometimes it takes a mortal to solve problems immortals can't. Why do you think the gods use us as pawns so often throughout history?" Wulfa chuckles a little. "I am the most knowledgeable on arcane magic, and I can offer insights into mundane and magical matters... For example, this creature." He looks over at the corpse, nodding gently. "Tell me more about these creatures. You fought them, and apparently it can stretch to swallow even your dragonborn friend."
Meanwhile, in Mountain Essentials (after about a 10 minute walk), inside is a series of wooden shelves containing all sorts of mountaineering equipement. Ropes, climbing gear, cold weather survival gear, everything that someone would need to survive in the mountains for a while. Somewhere towards the back, a large goliath man can be seen stocking bags onto the shelf from a large box that he holds on his shoulder. He stands about 8 and a half foot tall, his ashen skin accented with blue tattoos running over his muscles.

Kalgren mulled over Wulfa's question. 'Because you will want to avoid burning down the entire forest if you only need to remove a single tree.' He grinned at Wulfa. 'Plus it might upset the other gardeners.'
His grin was replaced with a scowl when Wulfa turned the conversation to the creature's disgusting remains. 'We don't have much to go on after just one encounter.' He replied. 'They hunt in groups, though there does seem to be a leader type that stands out from the rest. They clearly aren't natural creatures, what with their ability to fit through small holes, swallow others, burrow into the ground and probably a bunch of other traits we haven't seen yet.'
Kalgren rubbed his eyepatched eye. 'We don't have anything on record on these creatures either so we're in the dark here. Not really the position I want to be in.'
Wulfa laughs at Kalgren's answer. "Well played, my friend. Very good answer. I'm sure Marigold would appreciate it as well."
He then nods as the half-elf goes over the answers they do know. "Interesting. I take it the leader type had some sort of armor then? Because with this one being mostly skin aside from the beak and talon, I can only presume it was bigger as well." Wulfa rubs at his chin as he looks over the corpse... He lets out a small hrm.

As Grell steps through the door into the Essentials Store and lays eyes on the various equipment scattered about, a feeling of ease washes over him; growing up in the mountains, this place reminded him of hearth and home.
He moved through the store, eyeing certain bits and pieces as he approached the huge Goliath near the back, not hiding his own bulk and weight as he walked forwards heavy with purposeful noise. Nonetheless, as the Dragonborn neared the Goliath he lets out a short and polite cough to formally announce the party of three's presence.
"Oriander...?" Grell says as he waits for the Goliah to turn...

Kalgren lips pulled taut. 'Interesting.' He said. He took his foot of his knee, planted it next to the other one and straightened his back. 'Those are the exact two traits that set the leader apart from the rest. Curious how you jumped to those exact two traits without any other indication.'
OOC: Kalgren initiates suspicion modus. He'll pay close attention to what Wulfa will say, what he does not say and what his body language is saying.

The Goliath turns and nods to the dragonborn. "Aye, tis Oriander." The large man nods and chuckles. "'ow might I assist ya?" His accent is somewhat similar to dwarves, but... more... landy? The narrator isn't too sure how to describe it, honestly. He's very well muscled, about equal to Grell, but clearly despite such things, he's got the air of a gentle giant about him.
Wulfa laughs at Kalgren's answer. "Well played, my friend. Very good answer. I'm sure Marigold would appreciate it as well."

"It only makes sense. When you look at other creatures, magical or otherwise, a leader caste almost always is larger and more well-armored whether it is by virtue of muscle mass, or literal armor. Take the wolf for example. Often, you will find that the alpha is a dire wolf. Larger, more well-muscled and thus with better armor. Or the chitine and the choldrith. Chitines are the servants, the choldrith are the leaders and much bigger and often wear studded leather armor."
Wulfa seems to be more in academic mode. He isn't necessarily deflecting suspicion, simply stating facts. "...How did they communicate? Was there many verbal indicators, or were they silent?"

He could go for another one. 'No more tactics than a pack of animals. Even knew when to call it quits when faced with overwhelming odds. So definitely some survival instinct.'
He relaxed his shoulders. 'Which brings me back to my first point: they don't seem natural. That leaves us with two options.' Kalgren held up two fingers in a V-shape. The only places I would be found, which the townsfolk can attest to." He grits his teeth for a moment before taking a breath.

He walked over to the exit. With his hand on the handle, Kalgren turned his head and flashed Wulfa a smile. 'The tea was nice. I hope we can enjoy another cup in the future.'
With those parting words, he left Wulfa to his own devices. Now where did the others go to? Kalgren mused as he walked across town.
