Nimue walks into the inn and listens to the conversation she lets out a loud laugh and says "What kind of men are you? Bickering about silly stuff when a beautiful woman has walked into the tavern. You" she points to the drunk man and continues "fetch me a drink. I know you know what is good to have here." She then turns to Torin and says "What did you learn of these orcs...." she taps her for loudly "...BEFORE I die of boredom."
Knowing he cannot fool him, Torin immediately kneels and says: "M...master Leovold! I...I know I shouldn't have lost myself. I just..."
He is cut off by the sound of a door slamming against a wall.
"Wut in tarnation is going on in here?" a short, friendly-looking man says as he enters from the kitchen. Looking around at the commotion, he continues: "Ah, the travelers everybody's talking about! Don't mind Billy over there. He's always drunk by this time... We got those rooms set up for ya up top! Not much sightseeing around here lately. You know, with that damn flying elephant or whatnot everyone's been talkin' about. Name's Toblen Stonehill. Place is named after me you know!" One can almost see a sparkle come from the side of his toothy smile as he introduces himself. "I came here years ago to prospect cuz all the talk about mining aroun' here, but found I'm a lot more suited to this kinda business."
He shouts into the kitchen. "HEY WE GOT CUSTOMERS. GET THIS LADY A MENU WOULD YA?"
Billy looks confused at the sight of another talking lion and giant man. His face turns flush when he turns to Nimue, then passes out in his chair.
"Maybe it is for the best that he stays that way. Torin, we might talk later about your behavior, and I appreciate your defense, but these are our people too now. You know how I treat my people." He turns to the Innkeeper Toblen. "Pleased to make your acquaintance Mr. Stonehill. I thank your for the accommodations you were able to provide. For one that began as a miner, I must agree you seem to be doing very well for yourself with this place."
A teen waitress hands out a menu, while admiring Nimue's jet-black flowing hair. "Wow. Like, nice hair." she says.
Nimue looks down to see the morning selection:
garlic roasted potatoes
pan-roasted brined pork chop
Phandalin roast beef
salad
pancakes
...
Toblen replies to Nimue's question as she makes her choice. "Orcs? Yea, it's real serious around these parts lately. I heard my friend Big Al was having trouble at the Butterskull Ranch too. I really hope no harm comes to him. My business depends on his doin' well too, ya know? It's not like he's had trouble defending himself before, but they sayin' lots more stuff comin' out of the woodwork lately. I put in a notice on the job board earlier. Maybe you folks could take a look after breakfast. We really appreciate you all's help you know. Even Billy ain't like that usually."
He looks at BIlly, now drooling on the table in his slumber.
" I would love to try the roast beef. Yes, perhaps after we deliver the warning to Umbridge hill we can head up to this Butterskull ranch. We certainly don't need any orcs showing up with a dragon sighting already and it is best to nip problems in the bud before they can develop further."
"It smells delicious. I thank you." Leovold pays and munches hungrily. "So my friend, where did you learn the art of smashing face to such an impressive degree?
“atop the highest mountain peak where air is thin and frigid sits great Zhan-gin monastery. i am zhan-gin student.”
The goliath smiles, reminiscing over life in the mist hidden village atop the mountain.
“we Zhan-gin monks devote our minds and bodies to the protection of mountain village. not just from cold and starvation, but from treacherous monsters and feral beasts.”
he glances at his scarred and callous hands.
”it is hard life... but serving mountain village and monastery brings me great purpose.”
" That is truly an honorable way to devote one's life. There are few things as rewarding and as hard as serving others. They surely were amazing teachers." Leovold offers a toast to the mentors of zhan-gin and to Krash. "So what brings you down the mountain to this village, away from your own? The dragon?"
the greatest of our clan makes pilgrimage away from mountain village. this quest often provides perspective and wisdom only granted to surface folk, but adventure is also great opportunity to earn fierce name that honors our people. ive been away from zhan-gin for a year before i got word of the dragon.
the monk looks to leovold with a prideful grin.
”i will take name “Dragonbreaker! ...or i will die in the pursuit
he motions to leovold and and nimue
”please, share your story. i want to know everything. tell me of your past battles and future aspirations!”
Leovold grins. " What a mighty name to take back to your people it will be. Yes, we will save this village. Hurrah!" He will lift another toast to their Krash and their adventures!
After a deep swig and looks over to Nimue, "Though I am a "meathead", you proved able in combat yourself. Your birds themselves even were a remarkable aid. Where did you come from? Did you find or train such creatures?"
Nimue stares at Leo for a few seconds before answering "Little lion, they have names. Numquam was a gift to me from the raven queen and Magis was a familiar creature I found on my own. I came from far away from here and my past is not something I like to remember. Somethings are best not spoken of so early on in the day." she grabs her glass and finishes about 3/4's of the glass in a single drink. Slamming the empty mug down, she flags the bartender for another one. "Trust does not come easy for me lion, but perhaps sometime soon. Just know that if you stay with me, know that I serve the raven queen first."
”Good to see you again boys good to see you indeed!” Dusty says with a wave of his name.
”It’s mighty fine to meet you Halia mighty fine indeed. My names Dusty... Dusty Flodes! I’ll heal and I’ll kill all that matters is Tempus’s will baby. If someone’s good I’ll treat them right! If their bad my heart can get as black as night you dig it?!”
Dusty accepts his coin.
”I’m sure you meet a lot of folks in here. Have you heard of any work or know where ol Dusty can make a little more of this shiny stuff here?!” says Dusty.
"Perhaps when you say my name I might say theirs. I respect your privacy, and if you keep showing her worth maybe I can respect the raven queen as well. I'll ask again another time for your story."
Leovold will do the same as Nimue, not to be shown up. Putting his mug down he begins to tell his own story.
"So far, the gods here have been more reliable and honorable than the lands I came from. In the creation of that world, the god battled against hosts of monsters and titans birthed from the heart of the earth. They promised my people and others many boons and wonders in exchange for our help, "
here he stops and takes another swig from the newly filled mug. "
but even after the monsters were all sealed in the prison of the underworld, they never did. They just continued their petty war with each other. Former allies now the enemies of today. My people would not forgive and forget like the other races. We labeled them what they were, betrayer gods and forsook all of them, refusing them service or devotion. But a I said, they were petty gods, and the millenia were not kind to us with them against us.
A few years after i had taken over rule of my tribe, we found a device that might be able to aid us in escaping the plane to somewhere, anywhere better.
Eventually we were able to activate it, but the gods would not even let us leave in peace. Just as we were making our way through, Heliod, king of the gods there, unleashed his mighty spear and disrupted the portal. It began closing cutting off a large portion of my tribe on the other side. I ran into the gateway to try to hold it open, but the two realities would not stay teathered. They ripped closed right on top of me. When I awoke, we were found ourselves in the farmlands of Neverwinter.
after listening to leovolds tale, facebreaker finishes his tankard in one giant gulp. drinkware used by humans in this area are quite small compared to the drinks served to his kind.
”gods be damned. can only trust in the tribe.”
still holding onto his tiny mug, the hulking goliath frowns at the thought of being separated from his own people
”you must be so lonely... losing your people that day. should you ever need warrior or companion, call on me, and i will send aid”
Nimue answers "Rumors are that few people have ever seen her true self. The raven queen takes many forms and shapes based on the memories she has seen. I would like to visit her and repay the debt that I owe. She resides in the Shadowfell in the Castle of Memories. Soon I will find my way there but I must find the perfect gift for her..."
Halia looks at Dusty. "Work? Yes, there is indeed. There have been reports about disturbances coming from the mines. We could use some trained fighters like you to deal with those kinds of issues. We still need some information from Don-Jon before we can proceed, however. Those specifics should be finalized in a few days. Perhaps you can return then."

Nimue asks Toblen "Well I will let my tastebuds decide if you made the right choice. Was sleepy over there right about the orcs in these parts?"
"Maybe it is for the best that he stays that way. Torin, we might talk later about your behavior, and I appreciate your defense, but these are our people too now. You know how I treat my people." He looks at BIlly, now drooling on the table in his slumber.
facebreaker finds the rowdiest group of patrons and pulls up a chair.
”greetings!”
the hulking goliath seems cramped in the tiny chair but seems unphased.
”allow me to join you! i am traveler from far away and would love to hear your adventures. please share”
" I would love to try the roast beef. Yes, perhaps after we deliver the warning to Umbridge hill we can head up to this Butterskull ranch. We certainly don't need any orcs showing up with a dragon sighting already and it is best to nip problems in the bud before they can develop further."
Krash pulls up a chair, but the rowdiest patron in the establishment this early in the morning is now passed out drunk in his own saliva.
Other patrons include a talking lion, a bird-lady, and possibly a one-handed priest.
The waitress brings Leovold his order of roast beef.
"Like, omigawd, another talking lion."
She turns her attention to the goliath and says, "Wow. Like, can I touch your arm? Wow."
She begins sketching the two characters on the back of the pad that she wrote the orders on. "Just wait till I post this in my diary..."
(ooc: Perhaps you can talk about your own adventures. When you are ready, go to the townmaster's hall and job board.)
"It smells delicious. I thank you." Leovold pays and munches hungrily. "So my friend, where did you learn the art of smashing face to such an impressive degree?

after some time, facebreaker turns to nimue.
”what is raven queen? big bird lady?”
Nimue answers "Rumors are that few people have ever seen her true self. The raven queen takes many forms and shapes based on the memories she has seen.
