Pressing onwards Sig opens the door (14) and leads the way down a gently sloping corridor that opens into a large room. The room’s domed ceiling is 15 feet high at the edges and 30 feet high in the middle. The dome is filled with sizzling acid that defies gravity as it floats 15 feet above the floor.
An 8-foot-tall statue of a four-armed fish monster stands in the middle of the room, facing north. Its webbed hands clutch an ornate, 1-foot-square stone box with a lid and a keyhole.
Spotting the locking mechanism Eoan is able to press the hidden button and pop the door open. Looking inside the secret compartment you discover that this 10-foot-square room is empty. It seems Halaster (the dungeon designer) is a troll
You backtrack a few rooms and find a dwarven statue in the room where you first encountered the bandits. While inspecting them Eoan notices that one has a false bottom, inside of which is a thick iron key
Snatching up the key and returning to the group ASAP . Eoan tosses the key to Leowin . “Looks dodgy to me . If anyone knows a lock it’ll be you . Best of luck.”
Leowin inspects the box and is unable to find any obvious triggering mechanism for the trap. He slots the key into the hole and turns. There’s a click and the lock opens letting Leowin view what’s inside. The box’s interior is lined with thin sheets of lead to thwart certain forms of divination magic, including the detect magic spell. Inside the box is the dry, withered heart of the tiefling wizard. A detect magic spell reveals an aura of necromancy magic around the heart, while an identify spell or similar magic reveals its magical properties.
Unfortunately my friend, I don’t have any other spells that could tell us anymore. All I know is that whoever did this really wanted to punish the skeletal adventurer, both in life and death
“ I think our dead tiefling friend , and the owner of this heart may well be one in the same . Perhaps we should return the heart to its owner given he answered our questions and pleaded for our help finding his heart ?”
Throughout the brief contact you each feel with the heart a coldness seeps through your hands. I need a DC12 con save from both Leowin and Eoan.
With regards to the heart and the skeleton its rubbery flesh finds no purchase inside the skeletons ribcage and drops unceremoniously to the floor, where an errant rat scoops it up and scuttles into the darkness with it. Eoan you are unable to discern any change in the tieflings remains but as you turn to head back to the others you swear you hear it sigh in relief.
Leowin now that the heart in the box isn’t preoccupying your view you notice a small amulet is also in the bottom of the box

“well that’s just weird!”
“Time to use a charge of the wand of secrets me thinks “ casting the wands spell over the room
The wand points towards a section of wall at the rear of the room, indicating a secret door there.

Leowin looks askance at the heart in the box.
"What the hell? Who puts a heart in a box? Is this some magic or something? I don't know shit about it."
He looks towards Carilius and Jhee-Kharr with shoulders raised and a quizzical expression.
"You guys know about books. What gives?"
Unfortunately my friend, I don’t have any other spells that could tell us anymore. All I know is that whoever did this really wanted to punish the skeletal adventurer, both in life and death
"Huh. He must have done something special. Can we talk to him? I mean we did chat with that other dead guy."
Leowin looks around the party with an eyebrow raised
Sig shales his head. “Need a mouth piece to speak to. No point wasting the magical energy on just a heart. Anything else in the box?”
“ I think our dead tiefling friend , and the owner of this heart may well be one in the same . Perhaps we should return the heart to its owner given he answered our questions and pleaded for our help finding his heart ?”
Leowin's face brightens
"Oh yeah. So he did. I was about to stamp on it and put him out of his misery. Maybe your plan's better. Here ya go"
Leowin fishes the heart out of the box and hands it to Eoan.
Eoan moves with a sense of urgency back through the labyrinth holding the heart quite unceremoniously to the tieflings room.
Looks at the heart and the cavity in the Mage’s chest eyeballing the fit before shrugging and shoving the heart into place.
Throughout the brief contact you each feel with the heart a coldness seeps through your hands. I need a DC12 con save from both Leowin and Eoan.
