With a huge grin on his face, Zee glances with tilted head at Murmen, "I feel into a pool of water and fell in love." he says with a enjoyed sigh, then stretches out in the morning glory. "I'm back and I'm fine too boot."
It took Arikon a while before sleep finally took him. But when it finally did, the slumber didn't do him much good. Nightmares haunted him. He saw his father dying, saw his mother mourning and his family's estate in ruin. 'Was it true?', he asked in his dreams as much as when he was awake. The letter had put everything into question. What was he supposed to do? It was a question without answer, at least he couldn't come up with one.
If the letter was sincere he ought to return to his family, but what if it's not. What if it was just another scheme of his father? His dreams held no answers either, and when he woke that morning he was as clueless as when he went to sleep.
Thankfully the others were already awake and he joined their conversation to take his mind of things. "Fell in love? Must have been quite the pool then?", he stated.
In the early morning, the party begins to rouse from their sleep. As they do so, they notice that Zee has returned to camp, stripped naked by the campfire.
"Where the blasts have you been off to?" says Sildar, who has just awoken.
Meanwhile, John holds his shortsword awkwardly in his right hand, the weight unfamiliar to him. "So uh...how do we begin?"
Jeb works with John on demonstrating feet placement, holding the blade, familiarizing himself with the weight and heft of the blade, and thrusting.
As he does so, he critiques as needed. He is sure to layer on positive comments and tips as well.

After floundering with the short sword, Zee offers the Mace with a smile. John takes the mace and gives it a bit of a flourish. Zee motions to a near by tree "It won't fight back but you can wail on it."
John walks up to the tree and looks back at Zee with a skeptical look, then swings the mace sideways at the tree. John's swing does not seem awkward at all and a chunk of the tree comes off. He looks back at Jeb and Zee with surprise. "I hardly tried." John says. "Well mean it this time." Zee replies, and John reels back, mace behind him cocked for a big swing, and his left hand out to counter balance. John Brings the mace at the same angle as last time, but a bit higher and with ferocity and a bit of a feral grunt. A shard of the tree splinters off as the blow lands and John regains a bit of his balance.
"Not bad at all, you've made more progress than you think. I feel the mace has been the right choice all along." Zee says with a large grin, and then looks to Jeb who had been helping, "I think you're sparing is helping immensely. He might not fight the same as you, but having you as an opponent to learn from is great experience. Thank you."

John spars with Jeb as Zee and Murmen stand by, giving tips. John seems to have a bit of knack with weapons, as he learns quickly and responds well to Jeb's criticism. Meanwhile, the wagons are hitched up and the party continues on their last day of travel towards Phandalin.
After around five hours of walking, it is now early afternoon when the rutted track emerges from a wooded hillside and you catch your first glimpse of Phandalin. The town consists of forty or fifty simple log buildings, some built on old fieldstone foundations. More old ruins—crumbling stone walls covered in ivy and briars—surround the newer houses and shops, showing how this must have been a much larger town in centuries past. Most of the newer buildings are set on the sides of the cart track, which widens into a muddy main street of sorts as it climbs toward a ruined manor house on a hillside at the east side of town.
As you approach, you see children playing on the town green and townsfolk tending to chores or running errands at shops. Many people look up as you approach, but all return to their business as you go by. However, Jeb notices that people look quite tense: they glare suspiciously at the newcomers, their hands immediately gripping weapons at their sides. They keep a closer eye on their children, not letting them wander too far from their sight(Passive Insight).
Still, Sildar seems much more at ease.
“My friends,” he says, “let us secure lodgings. I’m told the local tavern, the Stonehill Inn, is very quaint, but I'm sure there will be plenty of games for you, gambler." He says to Jeb, pointing out a large roadhouse in the center of town.
"But first, you should deliver the wagon to Barthen's provisions and get your pay for a job well done. If you wish to speak to me, I'll be at the Townmaster's Hall. I have a mission to complete, and if the rumors are true, there's unrest brewing in this town."
Meanwhile, John seem disturbed at the mention of the Stonehill inn. He gently nudges Zee and Jeb and whispers, "It might...not be a good idea for me to spend the night there." Sildar says his farewells before walking to the inn. It is early afternoon, leaving you plenty of time to explore Phandalin before the sun falls.
Jeb turns to see John's anguished face in regards to the inn. He says, "I believe Sildar is correct. Let's see about dropping off the goods first. We can then see about making arrangements for securing shelter. If the inn is out, perhaps we can secure one of these outer buildings while we're in town."
They finally arrived in Phandalin. He almost couldn't believe it. It felt like they had travelled for weeks when in reality it where only a few days. The fighting had been hard and there where moments in which Arikon thought he wouldn't make it. In the end they managed to rescue Sildar and now their were new assignments waiting for them. There was still the letter to consider, but for now he had decided not to think about it.
"Sildar and Jeb are right. After we got paid for our work, we'll know what we can afford.", he chuckled.
The party travels down the muddy track to a large, red-roofed building. Barthen's Provisions is a sturdily constructed wooden store with a swinging sign emblazoned with a backpack and wagon wheel. Carts stacked with crates and goods lay scattered around the entrance.
Inside, a lean and balding human man of about fifty years maintains shelves stocked with mundane goods and supplies. As you walk in, he turns and smiles warily at you.

Jeb steps in as Murmen's statement while correct, was somewhat abrupt and very dwarvenlike. Jeb clears his throat and nods at the shop keeper with a friendly and open smile. He says, "What my stout comrade means is we safe guarded the wagon of goods from Neverwinter to Phandalin. The goods are outside your fine establishment good sir. We had a little trouble with some goblins; but nothing we couldn't manage. If you like, could you step out to ensure everything is in order. We'd like to settle our account and see about securing lodging in town."
"Ah yes, I am indeed Barthen, proud owner of Barthen's Provisions. And I was expecting a shipment, too." Barthen whistles and a couple of young clerks emerge from a back room to unload the wagon.
"Now, the owner of the shipment is a good friend of mine, Gundren Rockseeker. He was supposed to arrive a couple days ago, but I haven't seen him. Do you mayhaps know where he is?"
Zee's face becomes somber, "It seems he was kidnapped on the way here. We are going to find him soon and bring him back just as we did Sildar." He says

Barthen visibly saddens at the news of Gundren’s capture. “Who kidnapped him? By the heavens, I hope he’s still alive.”
The balding human slumps down on behind the counter. “And it’s not just him either. His two brothers arrived a few weeks earlier and went to camp in the mountains. They haven’t been back in a tenday, but they should have resupplied by now.”
He sighs. ”Gundren was so excited about uncovering the legendary Wave Echo Cave. I’m sure he’s told you about that mythical mine, right?”

Barthen frowns. "Legend says there's an old dwarf mine in the mountains, full of riches. Gundren was searching for it to reopen it. If that happens, our town would be able to prosper. But now..."
He shakes his head and sighs. "Please, you must rescue him. But first, let's get you your payment."
Barthen goes into the backroom and spends a few minutes in there. You hear the sounds of a floorboard being lifted up, of chains being unfastened, and of a safe being opened. Barthen seems to have a lot of precautions regarding his money. Finally, he emerges out of the room with a sack jingling with coins.
"Now, you should have received a contract. Please, give it to me and I will hand out your payment."
(Wait, you guys do know about Wave Echo Cave, right? Sildar told you back in the goblin den).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The lean human went back into retrieve their payment and Sharloon felt somewhat guilty. How much had he really done to earn the payment for the contract? Trying to make himself somewhat less conspicuous the dragonborn moved away from the entry way to survey more of the town.

Sharloon will try to get a general impression of the town as well as keep on the lookout for a woodworking shop. There is one on the map but no idea if I know that yet.
"Now, you should have received a contract. Please, give it to me and I will hand out your payment."
Still feeling uncomfortable about being paid but curious about the human's seemingly extortionary efforts at security Sharloon quietly asks him, "Seems like you have gone to a lot of difficulty to conceal your money. Have there been robberies or burglaries around here of late?"
Petty sure you did tell us about Wave Echo already.
As the payment session wrapped up Sharloo, wondered aloud before the group, "So, do any of you know the way to the Wave Echo area? Should we perhaps try to see if we can find a map of this area, a guide, or some general directions?"
