Nivlen presumes that the merchant wagon was assaulted by brigands and is currently being chased (on foot?) by them. He fully expects that they will give up the chase and retreat to the woods once they realize that the wagon will reach the city and protection before they could possibly catch the wagon.
After just a few more seconds of watching the chase, Nivlen becomes suspicious. Bandits surely wouldn’t run right into custody. “Something’s not right,” he says to himself. Then Mool comes and explains the kidnapping.
“The wagon must be stopped and the driver questioned,” he yells out to everyone in earshot.
“You folks need to get in the city, I cannot guarantee your safety out here!” Nivlen says to the visitors. To the guards he shouts as he himself retreats to the end of the bridge, “Guards! Assistance!”

“You folks need to get in the city, I cannot guarantee your safety out here!” Nivlen says to the visitors. To the guards he shouts as he himself retreats to the end of the bridge, “Guards! Assistance!”
By Nivlen’s estimation, if the wagon wishes to enter the city, it will have to slow down substantially to make the sharp turn onto the bridge. This would provide the best opportunity to bring the wagon to a stop and question the driver what has transpired.
(OOC: Is there any kind of draw-gate at the end of the bridge that even a whipped horse won’t try to barge through? If so, Nivlen will draw it down/closed to restrict access onto the bridge. If not, he will be looking around for a large fallen branch or anything that could be waved in front of a team of horses that would cause them to falter. Of course a branch like this would have to be close enough to be retrieved before the wagon would arrive and small enough for a halfling to lift and wave.)
At Nivlen's command, the many of the merchants making their way across the bridge begin to push their carts with a palpable sense of urgency. Two of the guards escorting Mool look to him for direction. Mool nods, and the two rush to the 20 foot tall double-door gate and begin to close it. The other two jog to assist Nivlen however they can.
Tlak-Shik suggests, mentally, to those concerned with stopping the cart that, when the time is right, he will leap over the animals pulling the cart, 'Shrieking and Hissing' like a tea kettle that is about ready to explode. The idea being to startle the animals into a halt rather than confront him.
"Tlak-shik apologizes for intruding on you mind, but he wishes you not to misunderstand him." This thought he projects, gently.

If all are okay with what he has in mind Tlak-Shik will jump as he suggested.

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Something helpful for both the DM and the players here on D&D Beyond is if the DM creates a campaign and invites the players to add their characters to the campaign. That way, the players can see some information concerning the other players, which is helpful when writing and also remembering what equipment other players have. It's very helpful for the DM because they can see all of every player's character sheet. The sheets aren't as pretty as the website you suggested, but still very helpful.
Koric leaves his illusion shouting to abandon ship, but turns the volume down a little. He watches the unfolding situation, hoping that sense prevails,.
"C'mon you lot, your captain is abandoning the ship", he shouts. "Lay down your arms and you will not be harmed!".
Action: Ready an action to cast Fire Bolt at any sailor on the ship who does not heed the call to surrender, and who acts aggressively.
Persuasion (if relevant): 22 (to get them to surrender)

Nivlen turns to the Thri-Kreen and nods while thinking to himself, “Good plan” and wonders if the non-verbal nod will impart the message or can the Thri-Kreen read thoughts as well?

"ere now, i dunno about you boys, but i dont need any of that finger fire burnin me up like it did Vorga and Buutz." says one pirate to the other two.
The buccaneers don't need any more convincing than that. The three men drop their weapons to the deck and raise their hands in a symbol of surrender.
Gnirm gives one last look of contempt, and as he opens his mouth to say something, is caught in the shoulder by Elelyel's thrown javelin, and falls from the ships rail into the water.
"Jhoni, as captain of this vessel, do we save him or forsake him?" Righteousness asked, for though he was pleased the crew surrendered, was worried on 2 counts: 1) the fellow who had lost his ship seemed more bloodthirsty than a typical sailor and he doubted it had anything to do with the fellow's orcish heritage; 2) he wanted the group tried as a whole, but the javelin kinda ruined that.
Jhoni sighs and realised how badly injured he actually is. Leave the mutinous bastard to the judgement of the sea. He only got me ship through trickery anyway. This lot should be brought before the dockmaster for judgement. If it were high seas ‘twould be different but the laws of the land take precedence while at dock.

"Noted. got any rope to make bindings? afterwards, we should probably make a check on the cargo hold and the brig, find out why they would mutiny."
EastWoods/North gate(fast forward a bit, lots of running and waiting, lol)
as Gling, Ai'ryn, and Tegid reach the halfway mark between the woods and the gate, the wagon closes in to a distance where the Thri-Kreen is able to carry out his plan. As he jumps in front of the cart, attempting to intimidate the horses, he makes a series of startlingly shrill noises, forcing the few merchants who didnt make it inside the gate to cover their ears with their hands, or shrink behind their carts in fear.
The horses buck and whiny, and begin to veer toward the cliff near the edge of the Bridge. The man at the reins tries desperately to steer around the flailing Thri-Kreen, but it is no use. the reins are pulled from his grasp violently by the charging animals. Muffled screams can be heard from inside the carriage. the cart is now running parallel to the cliff only inches from the edge and thirty feet from the rest of the group at the bridge. The driver leaps from his seat to the ground, rolling and skidding to a stop just inches from the edge, with no apparent concern for the safety of his passengers.
The horses attempt to veer away from the cliff, but the wheels closest to the edge slip and the carriage begins to turn sideways, dragging along the edge of the cliff. now the screams of several young women can be heard clearly. A heeled boot bursts open the closed window on the side facing Nivlen, Mallus, and Elric. The boot disappears back into the wagon, the face of a teenage girl appears at the window.
"HELP US, PLEASE!" she shouts, tears streaming down her cheeks.
The horses continue to buck and pull wildly against their tack.
Lowtown: The combat at an end, the six of you(Koric, Merric, Elelyel, Righteousness, Jhoni, and the Barbarian) board the ship. The pirates offer you no more resistance, and looking over the far rail, you see no sign of Gnirm. The boat is a smallish, light vessel, around 30 feet wide by 120 feet long. a brief search of the ship reveals only one other passenger, who is still sleeping in their cot, snoring loudly. The man is dressed in strange garb that Koric recognizes immediatly as the outfit of a member of one of the tribes of the Chultan Jungles.
OOC yay, rewards time.
1. Jhoni is restored to Captain of the {name your ship here, cap}
2. kill count- 9 pirates slain, 225 sp total split 5 ways= 45 each
3. RP- Merric gets 25 xp for the bane spell that "caused" the explosion of the arqubus, Korric gets 25 xp for the illusory deceit, Righteousness gets 25 for getting thrown across the docks and remaining gallant about it.
On board the ship there is a stash of 6 more arqubus, and several chests containing around 1100 silver pieces and a finely crafted cloak.
downtime: you now have some time to do stuff like shop, explore the city, etc. The barbarian, who finally introduces himself in a cheesy display as "Thurk Evilsbane, scourge of ne'er do wells" is happy to show you around and answer questions.
I was today years old when i learned you can invite players to a campaign. I reaaaaaaaally need to watch some tutorials for this site. don't worry, it'll only get better, i promise.
Righteousness will first, now that the ruckus is over and the guards coming to send the brigands to the dungeons, first head to the library to refresh his knowledge on chromatic dragons, emphasis on green ones, find food and drink, and shop for further supplies. pretty sure arquebus is a dex weapon, so pass on that, gonna roll the following with regards to the cloak
Perception: 4
Insight: 12
Religion: 22
Investigation: 14
Arcana: 8
History: 17
afterwards, I inquire as to how the 1100 will be split, and ask Thurk if there is anywhere that has good, but not overpriced, food and drink.

How far away is the cart from Mallus?
"I'm having a wonderful day!" Mallus says, in a slightly passive aggressive tone, 'but I'm not much of a missing child finder myself"
OOC : yup, oops, sorry ive got 3 PC's with 'ric' suffixes, mixed em up. let's just retcon that in. #fudgiestDMever
1600 feet(ish) probably a minute or two away from your location at it's current speed. You can now just see three figures giving chase on foot.
