You make your way slowly 🐌 up the mountain you see high stepping white goats 🐐 and small deer 🦌 ( like muntjacs only mostly white long hair). You eventually find a road. Along the road you find various entities frozen solid in ice. You're clearly on the right track. There are fewer frozen snacks as the keep comes into view. By lateday, you find an alcove you're confident will keep you hidden from the sky and settle for camp. Food is fresh this evening, one of those goat or deer.
Icespire Hold is a stone fortress perched on the icy northeast spur of Icespire Peak.
The mountain dwarfs the fortress consists of two separate structures joined together by a stone bridge.
The winding path you are on corkscrews up the mountainside to the smaller of the two structures, and appears to be the only safe way to reach the hold by land.
It’s an unwelcome path, but not as unwelcome as the cold, howling wind that buffets you.
The southwest section of the larger main building is crumbled and covered in shards of ice.
The forward gatehouse is occupied. Standing guard are four individuals. Their gear looks warn but sturdy. They don't appear to have noticed you yet.
Silenus and Rinn easily sneak into the initial camp in the gatehouse area between overhearing and the information from your familiar, you gather this is a mercenary group/gang planning to rob the dragon the next time it leaves the stronghold.
Apparently, they've already killed a few "competitors" since they've been here.
You count ten including the four guards you snuck past.
(( You'll need a stealth DC 18 to get across the bridge without being noticed or DC 15 to get aound/in the gatehouse. ))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“This is our dragon, not there’s,” Silenus whispers to Rinn. “We should capture one or two of them and find out what they know about the dragon’s lair.”
Silenus moves to get into the gatehouse (Stealth 9 )
(( OOC - You said it was pretty windy up here. Is it constant? Thinking about a fog cloud or something to help hide us, but it'll be useless in a windy situation. But then again, that stealth roll may have made my point moot haha. ))
(( OOC - alternatively, how close are all these guards huddled together? For example, are they huddled around a fire? ))
(( The wind is heavy around the bridge and main complex. A fog cloud around or in the gatehouse would work/make sense. I'd give Silenus advantage in that scenario. ))
Rinn sees four mercenaries near the exit of the gatehouse to the bridge, six are near the middle of the gatehouse around a fire. Then there are the two guarding the entrance you snuck past.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(( OOC - hmm, fog cloud gets blown away with wind which is why I wondered. ))
Rinn quietly casts fog cloud, hoping the sound of the winds will drown out the sound a little. He aims the cloud around the entrance of the gatehouse to help them sneak past and readies to cast another spell quickly should things go south.
The cloud of fog sets in around and into the gatehouse.
One of the mercs around the fire in the center of the open plaza within the gatehouse comments, "At least it isn't the wind from the bridge."
One of the others says, "What's that? I thought I 'erd some'm."
"OH, come off it!", barks back one of the mercs near the bridge, "A little fog and suddenly your jumping at shadows? What you going to do when the dragon comes back early while we're in there?"
(( Yes, you need to go through the gatehouse courtyard to get to the bridge and across the bridge to get to the main fort/hold. DC through fog cloud is 13, you both made it. DC 18 to get across bridge, no fog because of the wind there. While the guards in the main yard will not see you, there are two more in the gatehouse tower, that you don't know about, that might spot you.
When you are ready to head across the bridge, roll a stealth to stay hidden and a dexterity to balance against the wind and/or explain how you attempt to get across. ))

Silenus salutes the mountain in the morning.
"Kudos to you mountain dude," Silenus says. "Nice try but you'll have to do better to take us out with a little bit of snow."
Perception: 11
Survival: 7
RInn's Perception: 9
Survival: 6
It takes most of the day to clear out from the slide and storm, but you sleep well that evening and start out fresh the third day.
(( Exhaustion no more. You can start moving upward. ))
Role Perception and survival - with advantage
"I'm not sure I totally like this gnarly snow," Silenus says, "but I'm totally into the mountains. Look at these views, dude."
Silenus Perception: 15
Silenus Survival: 22

In the morning you are able to reach the keep.

Silenus smiles at the sight of the guards.
"Wonder if those dudes know the dragon," Silenus says. "We should totally sneak up on them and ask them."
Silenus continues along the path to the gatehouse, but quietly if he can (Stealth: 16 )
Jasmine stays back with the Ox and Cart.
Rinn nods, also sneaking off (Stealth: 25).
He also sends his familiar out to scout the structures from afar (keeping away from the guards).
Silenus and Rinn easily sneak into the initial camp in the gatehouse area between overhearing and the information from your familiar, you gather this is a mercenary group/gang planning to rob the dragon the next time it leaves the stronghold.

Silenus looks over at Rinn and whispers "Thin them out in the fog or sneak past?"
((About how far from Silenus and Rinn are each group of mercenaries?))
Rinn shakes his head and whispers a message, "Keep moving. We can use them as a distraction for the dragon later if need be."
Rinn will maintain the concentration on the fog cloud for as long as possible.
Silenus nods and keeps moving through the fog.
((Bit unclear on the layout - do they have to go through the courtyard and cross the bridge to get into the main fort?))
