Robwin looks Wolfsong up and down, this person he’s known for maybe a few weeks now.
Robwin continues, “I... Don’t... Judge... You........” he says again, stressing each word so it’s clear.
“Don’t mistake me for a Paladin, like Eli..... or a Cleric, like Blaire........ I didn’t hear what they were saying, but it looked like they were giving you a hard time.... I am a wizard.”, he smiles, “well, almost, anyway!”, he corrects himself.
“We are taught early on - rightly or wrongly - that a wizard walks a lonely path.... set apart from gods and demons, from kings and peasants, from right and wrong even. This is not true of course, but the pursuit of knowledge, the perfection of technique, the control of powers no one was ever meant to wield......”.
“The ends justify the means..... So, ‘I don’t judge you’ ”.
“We all have our goals: the dragon, the town, the hunt...whatever it is....... Now I don’t want to see cubs and elders killed. But by the same token, they put themselves in harms way”.
”We all make our choices in the heat of the moment. Now I may not agree with all of your choices. And you won’t with mine... But I respect you for them... ......Better to choose and live, than hesitate and die..... And if that dragon comes for us again?!?.... I want YOU at my side....”.
”We are very different... Opposites maybe.... but when it matters I think we both know we can rely on one another to choose, and to act.... whether it be for right, or for wrong......”.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
When Blaire approaches Ikki, the bird-man turns his head to blink at her with one red-brown eye. He ruffles his neck and shoulder feathers and clicks his beak lightly. "Fine," he says shortly. He turns his head to look at the woman with the other eye. "Much to *click* learn. Humans. Elves. Even halflings. Very different than *click* me." He does a kind of shuffle, turning his body to not close off Blaire, but to include the goblins into his observances. "These are different. Not *click* *click* hostile. *click* Friends?" His neck and shoulder feathers ruffle again.
Blaire nods at Ikki's words. "I think, unexpected alies, maybe not trusted friends but not enemies. Back home in sailing the iles, we would have many such partners one season who would be competitors or Enemies the next. We won't know until we work out the full course if the winds will favor us or not."
Blaire says to the goblins, I set a low tent for you.", she points to it. "It will be warmer than the open air. We have watchers up all night. Get rest, we'll leave before the sun rises." Glufs nods.
Blaire nods to TT then goes to the tent she's been sharing with Eli. As Eli goes to speak, Blaire cuts him off. "If you're going to rant or apologize about anything that happened today, don't. Or not to me. Seems Wolfsong and the horse are the ones you should address. I wouldn't go up on Wolfsong too soon though. Your antics painted his view strongly enough he practically called me a f&%$# citizen of that g%$#@ $%#@ Waterdeep, #@$% $#@! Northland sewer."
"With all the noise you make at night, he probably assumed we rut regularly and such. Now $#@!@ don't go all red an angry. I don't need to see you to tell your working yourself up. You grew in a large family like I did in a tight ship. What's with the s$%#@ demeaning loud rants."
Eli doesn't answer. Blaire finishes adjusting her kit and armor and weapons for a decent rest and a quick response if needed. "I don't know what is in you right now. It is clear the past tenday has been a lot for each to swallow. We all stand to learn a lot and earn a lot. I will tell you I believe mistakes were made today. I also believe if the circumstance was only slightly different, some of us would be dead and Wolfsong would be a hero for how quickly he acted. None of that warranted your shouting loud enough at Wolfsong to spook birds from the forest treeline."
"And I heard what you said. And I had thought we were going to set up camp to draw them out or let them go, but you seemed prepared to kill them all before Wolfsong took action. I don't see how your position is so far from his in your head."
After a bit of silence, Eli speaks quietly, "He's an unhinged animal like the Orcs."
Blaire huffs in agitation, "I would watch who you're %&#$% talking to. The Daraktan on that ranch were fleeing a dragon with cubs and elders. How many do you think they saw turned to ice without warning as when we crested that hill. Protecting your family or your hunting party isn't @#$%^& unhinged. And Northlanders take pride in being able to survive and hunt and make our way in the world regardless of what is handed to or taken from us. We don't begrudge the Daraktan for the same. Dwarf have a similar thinking about the mountain do they not? I'm not naive. I'm not schooled in book and library either. Doesn't #@$% make me less capable. Just some situations take a bit more work."
"Now that I'm completely $%^& put out, I am going to get some sleep. Maybe in the morning, you could help figure out what to do next rather than wasting everyone's time with what you would have done. I don't want to see this raft sink without some real harsh seas."
With that Blaire is silent and soon resting.
Eli broods for a long while on the day, on his behavior, on his duty, on Helm, and on his family before getting rest as well.
When Blaire asks Rinn how he is going, Rinn nods, "I'm doing alright. It's exciting being on the road. I feel sorry for these goblins, but can never be too wary." With that, Rinn climbs up a nearby tree to enjoy the cool night air and keep watch around his trance (Perception: 17).
(OOC - nothing else that Rinn needs or wants to do.)
TT will reply "Seems like you I was touched by divinity, I serve the the lord of the dead. He came to me after I spent ages searching. Thru me he touches those whose time it is to die and those who shall yet live. Im sure you could learn to mend flesh much in the same way that I helped you friend. Rest easy Gralk" TT will head off to rest. She will volunteer to take 3rd watch.
Wolfsong nods in understanding as Robwin talks, “You follow the law of the Wilds more than I expected. There is no right or wrong when it comes to survival, just the fine line between hunter and prey.”
“You have earned some of my respect, for this and how you handled yourself in the last few hunts so I offer you some advice. Steel yourself, I saw the fear grip you when I killed the goblins scenes like that are coming place in hunting, and the mercy you showed to the orcs while correct it that instance could be used against you later.”
Wolfsong pats Robwin on the shoulder, “Work on this and you will be a great hunting partner.”
Robwinsmiles at Wolfsong and nods, " 'Steel myself', yes, ha! You're not wrong... There's definitely a difference between using practice dummies or boar-carcases, compared to the real thing... It's not for the fainthearted at the coalface!... ...Maybe that's part of my final trial.....". He looks thoughtful for a moment.
"I think we can learn a lot from each other though. I think we're coming at the same problem from two different sides. We're two extremes on the same spectrum........ But I think if we learn from each other, and meet somewhere in the middle, we could be both a formidable and focused force".
"Sometimes in all this, there are no right answers, and no right actions. But if I can get a little more 'Wolfsong', and you get a little more 'Robwin', maybe we won't allow each other stray too far off the centre path..... I don't know. But I think we can help each other. I think we NEED each other!...".
"I'm glad we had a chance to speak... I don't want you thinking everyone's against you. The others might surprise you too! I think Rinn is pretty philosophical about all this, and TT is tougher than she looks. I'm still working out Ikki... they're hard to read sometimes. But I think we're a strong bunch".
"Yes," Wolfsong nods. "I agree there are things we can learn from each other. I must also remember, as Blaire said, these are not the hunting grounds I know, not everything is out to kill me. As for our other companions I actually feel the most connected to Ikki, we are both far from our normal grounds, dealing with people far different then what we are used to, the largest difference between us though is that Ikki seems to have a longing for his home while I longed for greater hunts. It is a difference I can understand."
"You and Blaire come in second, we have come to an understanding but our lives are vastly different. Rinn and TT I have spoken to much so I do not know their history. As for Eli...I do not feel we will be seeing eye to eye for some time to come. For now I grow tired and our watch is coming to an end, so it is time for me to rest we can continue this discussion at a later time, good evening."

TT: Shortly before predawn twilight the goblins exit the tent Blaire assigned them. Each scampers off individually and returns shortly after. Then Glufs and Gaatbort scamper off and Gralk starts stoking one section of the fire. She tells you, "Get meat. Forage? Other back soon. You up? Elf in tree up. When others up?"
==========
By the time twilight is full on, even without dark vision one can see vaguely, the goblins are back and roasting cleaned and skinned rat, squirrel and rabbit. They also have a makeshift bundle of roots and vegetables. They clean the roots with their hands, but they freely offer their gathering to the party as they wake.
The coming dawn reveals a low mist across the land.
When the party is up and ready they can move out.
It's nearly twenty miles to the crossroads and another ten to Phandalin from there.
The mist burns off an hour or two after sunrise.
Blaire and Eli are up mid twilight. Eli braking down and packing the tent they shared. Blaire doing the same for the one she offered the goblins.
Blaire greats everyone in turn and accepts a couple roast rat from the goblins with some roots. (She washes the roots with a bit of water.)
Eli eats from his existing rations and isn't really engaged but he isn't confrontational either.
After they are on the road, the mist is gone and visibility is better. Blaire will ask TT, "Learn anything new?"
Gralk will stay close to TT during the trip.
Eli will lead the horse and cart.
The other two goblins will scamper around the party. Clearly taking watch and scouting very seriously. They routinely touch base with Gralk. Often leaving her with a sprig of some plant or the other. Each she stows away in one of her pouches.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
To Blaire "Apparently Gralk is somewhat of an anomaly among her clan. She knows some divine magic and seems to be in the service of the goddesses of twilight and dawn. She is rough and a novice but seems to have potential. Im going to try and help her learn some more on our trip."
TT will spend the trip talking about death and the afterlife and how she learned her magic(basic backstory). She will also be attempting to teach Gralk how to cast basic healing spells.
(Arcana roll maybe??? or religion 17 add +1 for arcana or +3 for religion)
TT: As you spend time with Gralk throughout the day, you do notice her magic seems different from your own. Around mid-day she shows you her "not need see dark" magic. She pulls a small worm from a pouch, with her left hand, mumbles something, making a brief gesture with her right hand. You feel a almost static charge to the air around you as the little worm fizzle into dust and four glowing orbs appear around both of you hovering at about shoulder height (to the two of you anyway).
Seeing this, your knowledge of arcane, such that it is, the feel of it and what you gathered already from Gralk. You're pretty sure she'd be labeled some type of sorcerer rather then a cleric.
Rinn & Robwin: You immediately recognize the results of the spell as dancing lights even if you didn't see its casting.
"Little lights. Goblins no use. First from sisters. Second from sisters, is bugs eats flesh; fight nasty other or put dead in soil. three spit snake. four bless blade."
"Other from pale lady. Not name."
"Like this one. No use. Like watching."
As she finishes she reaches her hand out a bit and the orbs do slow figure eight around her arm and upper body.
About two hours before twilight as the sun is starting to set, Ikki, you notice a large wagon with two large ox grazing about half a mile south of the road.
Rinn sees the dancing lights, "Wow, that's cool! I can't do that," he says a little dejected before perking up again almost immediately. "I can do this though," and he casts mage hand and the spectral hand taps the goblin on the shoulder and waves. "I got taught some magic too. But I was taught by an old man, not a lady like you. He was a wizard and he used to teach a few of us."
Robwin wakes, and gladly accepts any of the foraged foods the goblins provide. And he’ll happily share a little of his rations in return if they want to try them. He has some dried fruit and nuts, a little dried meats and some hard biscuits.
He packs up his things, and will cast mage armor as they all head out, as usual (activating his Arcane Ward for +9hp at the same time). He’ll also ritually cast comprehend languages every 40-50 minutes to keep it up.
As they walk, and as Gralk starts showing her magic, Robwin will show her shape water. He’ll tip some water from his water skin and shape it into a tiny little dancing sprite in mid air. And if she’s into it, he’ll suggest she try to cast dancing lights inside the water-sprite to make it glow and maybe change colours.
He’s enjoying the day and he’s glad he had a chance to clear the air a little with Wolfsong.
Blaire taking some time to reflect before slumber will ask Ikki and Rinn separately, "How are you making out?"
Robwin looks Wolfsong up and down, this person he’s known for maybe a few weeks now.
