Caelynn, you easily dispatch your guard with your daggers.
Aimon, you pull out Dawnbringer, and a nimbus of light erupts around you. The Kuo-toa around you back away and hold hands to their eyes in pain. The sudden brightness blinds you a little, and you barely miss with your attack.
Oak, you call upon your primal rage and cut clean through your guard.
At Trill's spell, the daughter winces, but resists.
Ploopploopeen delivers two more staff strikes crackling with electricity. The daughter stumbles against the shrine and cries out in pain. A bolt of blue energy erupts from her outstretched hand that singes her father. Ploopploopeen's guards rush forward and engage the Mio around the battling preists.
Chaos erupts. The Kuo-toa leap upon each other all around you and begin tearing each other into pieces. Cries to various deities till the air as the focus on murdering those around them. The guards forget about you and dive into the melee around you.
Aimon watches the chaos unfold around them. All of the kuo-toa seems to be more interested in each other and the battling priests.
He shouts to the rest of the group.
"I say we put some distance between us and whatever is going on here. Nothing good is going to come of getting involved in a family squabble. And we have no idea who's going to come out on top."
He starts looking for a way through the crowd and then notices the kuo-toa taking a step back from Dawnbringer. They might be sensitive to bright light, he thinks. Maybe we can just pick a direction and go.
(I think somebody would be carrying it. It's not heavy, so it doesn't matter too much who has it, just that it's with us.)
Caelynn sheathes her daggers and looks to the others, willing to take whatever course of action they think is best. "I'm fine with running, but if we do, we won't get a navigator," she shouts back.
If they decide to run, she'll follow, taking the dash action if needed.
If they stay and hold their ground, she'll fire a crossbow bolt at the daughter, then try to find some sort of cover that she can reach without provoking opportunity attacks. Attack: 14 Damage: 7 magical piercing + dreadful strikes: 6 psychic
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((Yes I think maybe that makes most sense))
Oak looks this way and that. If he wasn't raging, he might have thought they could sneak away. If he wasn’t raging, he might have liked the idea of a navigator, and some food, and maybe a bed, and a village with a shop (even if it was full of crazy fish-people)...
But he was raging, and in his rage he drops his axe at his feet, and takes a pot-shot with his bow at the daughter, from where he stands...
((Attacking to maintain rage while a decision is made. He can’t not attack, if there’s a chance they’re still fighting. And his rage would cloud any decision other than ‘fight’ right now anyway, I think. Sorry! Maybe she won’t notice where a single arrow came from in all this commotion!))
Aimon sighs as he watches Caelynn's crossbow bolt and Oak's arrow race towards the high daughter priest.
He looks over at Trill.
"Guess we've picked sides," he says.
Aimon moves to keep himself to the outside of the melee scrum, and away from the water's edge if possible, but at the same time moving a little closer to where the daughter and father are fighting. He's keeping Dawnbringer drawn, but he's not racing in among the fighting Kuo-toa until he can see what's happening.
(For now he will Dodge as he keeps to the outside of the fighting.)
After ensuring a barrage of strikes from the party and her father's allies, he manages to break free of the scuffle and stumble backwards, blood and steam losing from her body. She turns to escape in the water when cries of agony and shock fill the air. Kuo-toa in the water begin fleeing towards the land. You can see shapes moving in the water, and several Kuo-toa are abruptly dragged under. Bloody foam begins to rise to the surface. Seeing this, she utters a few words in Abyssal, and a shimmering armor appears around her body. She looks determinedly at her father.
Ploopploopeen casts chain lightning, and a bolt of pure power surges out from him. It strikes his daughter and arcs off to try several Kuo-toa around her. At the lightning strike, her armor shatters, and she looks stunned, but alive.
"Are you guys seeing what I'm seeing?" he asks the others. "Whatever's in the water is chewing up Kuo-toa like they're candy."
He looks back at the priests fighting and makes up his mind. He may be reckless, and prone to pocketing shiny, valuable things, but he's not an executioner. For all he knows, the father is the villain in this family drama. He's staying out of it unless his friends are attacked.
Aimon continues to skirt the edge of this fight and stays even farther away from the water than he did before.
"I don't know about you, but I don't want to stick around and find out what it is," Caelynn replies, keeping her eyes on the water. She tries to make it over to Aimon, weaving her way through the conflict. The only reason she was still following the plan was for the reward, but even the chance to get out of here isn't worth their lives. She briefly glances away from the lake to see what Trill, Oak, and the others are doing.
“You want to get out of here?! Where? How?...”, he looks around for escape routes ((what options does he see? Proficient in nature, perception, and survival: all +3, and soldier background. Happy to roll, or for you to, if appropriate)).
”There’s water that way... is that cliffs behind us?? All I see is village as far as the eye can see....”. He says, squinting into the darkness this way and that...
Aimon points in the direction he thinks is the edge of the village.
"There may be a way out that way. At the very least we can get out of this mess and let them kill each other for awhile then, if there's no land route out, we can sneak back in and find a boat."
Trill will stick with the others, scooping up a small pebble and using the Tear to cast darkness on it. If they make a break for it, she'll toss it behind them to slow any potential pursuit.
Sensing that a tactical retreat is the best option, the party begins to move away from the crazed ritual. They see Ploopploopeen raise his staff and strikes his daughter dead. She cries out in agony and says ,"Leemooggoogoon! "
The party dodge brawls and bodies of fish folk as they make their way towards the town heading north. Another sound rises above the burbling Cries of the villages. The dark surface of the water farther out bubbles and begins to phone. Thick, oily tentacle bursts forth, followed by another. Then two monstrous heads break the surface, both resembling hideous, angry baboons with wickedly curved tusks. Both heads are attached to a single torso, and the monster's red eyes burn with bloodlust and madness. The creature rising from the lake must stand at least 90' tall, with water cascading down it's back and shoulders. Upon reaching it's full height, the great demon throws back both it's heads and roars, twin trumpets of destruction!
The Kuo-toa become silent and stare are the creature in a combination of pure terror and awe. Several begin crying out, "Leemooggoogoon! Leemooggoogoon!"
The nightmarish beast begins lumbering towards towards the town, tentacles writing through the water.
It fixes its gaze on the village and under its ferocious gaze, you feel your mind begin to buckle and fray as madness and insanity bombards you. Make a Wisdom Saving Throw.
Caelynn, at the sight of Leemooggoogoon, something breaks inside of you as you realize that the Fey Queen was right. Apocalyptic Demon Lords are loose in the Underdark. How can you possibly ever defeat them?
You are stunned for 3 minutes and gain one level of madness.
Trill, you see a glimpse of pure insanity in its gaze, and your psyche shatters. To cope, your mind begins playing memories that manifest themselves as vivid hallucinations all around you.
You have disadvantage on all ability checks for the next ten minutes and gain one level of madness.
Caelynn's eyes glaze over with fear and confusion, her hand dropping down to her side. She seems transfixed with the events happening in the water. Her mouth opens and closes for a few seconds, trying to form words but none coming out. "Demon Lords..." she eventually stutters out. "......run..." Despite this suggestion, her feet stay planted on the ground.

((how far away roughly is the daughter? Can any of us get into melee with her this turn?
Also, if we sprinted straight for the daughter, would we be in danger of any opportunity attacks, or have we all been completely left alone now?
Thanks))
