Aimon, make a Thieve's Tools check with disadvantage. You notice that the chest seems unusually light for its size. You think you could lift and move it with ease.
Faltering under a salvo of attacks, Brysis calls out in a guttural language that hurts to hear before a column of black flame suddenly erupts around her. The dark inferno swirls around her and spits white sparks as its roars into existence. She casts shadow of moil on herself and then moves fifteen feet away. She provokes opportunity attacks from Sarith and Oak.

Aimon, seeing the action moving away from him, takes a breath. Trying to pick the lock on a lock he can't see? His father had always nagged at him to learn new skills. This would definitely count. At the sight of Brysis spewing dark flame every time she's hit makes him wonder if they really can defeat her. Is she weakened or is she just turning our attacks back against us.
He's not sure why, but he feels that this sword calling itself Dawnbringer might mean it has power to cause Brysis great pain. He has to risk opening the chest.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Oak, as you strike Brysis, fire courses up you ax and scorches your lower arm. You take 7 necrotic damage.
Shaking it off, Oak rushes the last Shadow Aimon and swings his ax. The shadowy beast bursts into a dark mist that fades into nothing. You don't have enough movement speed to make it to Brysis again.
Aimon, with difficulty, you hear the sound of the invisible lock click open. The unseen lid pops open and suddenly, you can see the chest. You are confused for a moment as you peer into the chest. You are looking down on a circular room inside the chest. 10 feet down resting on a stone dias is a hilt of a blade. Made of pure platinum, you can see diamonds decorating the hilt. A sun made of gold is emblazoned across the pommel. As you look down, the sun begins to glow with a warm and inviting yellow light. The glow illuminates the 20 foot diameter circular room and its contents. Heaps of gold are haphazardly strewn throughout the room. Items of all shapes and sizes are mixed in with the gold. A rope ladder hangs from the roof of the chest that allows access down below. You have heard of chests like this one that have extradimensional space inside of them, but you never thought you would find one.
Jimjar shouts, "We almost have her!"
Waiting on Trill and Caelynn.
((The lock DC would have been higher, but I think I know what you want to do. What I think you are going to do is pretty cool and will make for some cool rp))

Caelynn, seeing the chest and hidden room open up, tries to position herself between Aimon and Brysis. She considers climbing down herself, especially considering the wounds she’s suffered, but decides against it. Aimon will be able to get down and back up much quicker than she will, and besides, the sword was calling out to him and he should be the one to use it. “Go! We‘ll hold her off!” She shouts to him before firing an arrow at the ghastly woman.
From within the vortex of blazing darkness, twin bolts of crackling power lash out and attempts to strike Trill and Oak. Trill's is Attack: 23 Damage: 15 points of necrotic damage. Oak's is Attack: 18 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll. points of necrotic damage. Brysis begins to resolutely chant phrases in Abyssal that echoes throughout the chamber. The flame pulses in time with her chant.
Sarith takes a few steps back takes the dodge action. He looks very battered and tired. He eyes Brysis with a wary expression.
Jimjar fires a crossbow bolt at Brysis. Attack: 17 Damage: 4.
Eldeth does the same with her bow. Attack: 20 Damage: 2.
Topsy moves towards Eldeth and hides behind her. Despite her bravado a few moments before, she looks scared of what is going to happen.
The party is up.
((She technically died at Jimjar's attack, but I want this cool part to happen if that is ok))
With the lid to the chest open, Aimon’s gaze is almost distracted by the heaps of gold, but he is instantly drawn to the sight of the glowing sword hilt.
He dashes down the rope ladder, and grasps the hilt, all while saying in his mind, I sure hope this is you.
Then, he dashes back up the rope ladder, leaping out of the chest and raises the hilt above his head.
And then for a brief moment he has no idea what to do next. But then he looks straight at Brysis and shouts.
”Behold Brysis, witness your doom.”
And in his mind he says, now would be a really good time to do whatever the heck it is you do.
Brysis’s twin bolts of crackling shadow energy blast out at the same time, just narrowly missing Oak and Trill. Her surrounding shadows seem to crackle and whip out, all around her, like a growing storm. A chill wind seems to be streaming off her in all directions... like maybe she’s just barely trying to hold her form together.
Oak sees Aimon find the chest, and light spills out around the room (fighting back some of the shadows), as he opens the lid and descends...
”Have you found her?!” Oak calls down to Aimon, his face and hide buffeted by the fell-wind, now emanating from the ghastly witch...
Screaming down into the prison-chest, Oak addresses the sword hilt now: “Dawnbringer?? Your saviour is coming!!...Your captor has been brought low!!... But she’s somehow clinging to the last threads of undeath!! Help us, we can’t last much longer!!”.
He positions himself to cover Aimon, as he emerges from the chest. “NOW?!!...” he says to his half-elven friend!...
((Oak moves to support his friend, and will ready/use the ‘help’ action, to help Aimon, if he has the chance))
Caelynn simply steps back and to the side, allowing Aimon room to do whatever he has planned. She gives him a short nod of confirmation, readying an attack in case this doesn’t work.
As you grasp Dawnbringer, warmth and vitality courses through your body. The motes of light gathering around the hilt flare, and a blade made of pure sunlight forms where the blade should be. The sword and hilt vibrate slightly and give off a crystalline ringing sound. You hear Dawnbringer say in your mind, "Shall we?"
You all see Aimon climb out from the chest clutching an ornate hilt with a shaft of burning sunlight projecting from it. It flares intensely, and an aura of light forms a sphere around Aimon. When Brysis sees this, she bellows, "No! This wasn't supposed to happen! He promised... Orcus, you promised!!"
As you approach her, she begins screaming incoherently in Abyssal. She blasts Aimon with a stream of darkness, but the sphere of light consumes the darkness. Dawnbringer flares brighter with every attack.
As you draw the sword back to pierce her wicked heart, Dawnbringer is glowing so brightly, it is almost blinding. Brysis closes her eyes and says with finality, "So be it."
With a sound of an immense bell being struck, Brysis explouds as you run Dawnbringer through her chest. Waves of darkness and cold blast through the room as she dies. The energy stops at the sun aura, but Sarith catches the full brunt. He is lifted up and slammed against the wall and then crumpled dead to the ground.
Dawnbringer's light fades, but is still bright. After the explosion, the ground learches, and rumbling fills your ears. You can hear crashing sounds coming from above. The castle above seems to be collapsing.
What do you do?
((I felt like a boss fight needed a climatic ending))
As Aimon emerges from the chest, Oak sees him wreathed in light, like a halo. He falls to one knee and raises his arm to shield his eyes against the dazzling brightness, as Aimon goes in for the kill...
Aimon watches what happens almost outside of himself, after Brysis is destroyed, he looks down at the bright sword, but is soon distracted by the shaking of the castle.
"Well, that was more than I expected," he says to the others, and then grimaces as the pain from Oak's blow resurfaces.
He looks back down inside the chest, thinking about all that treasure that they don't have time to claim, but then realizes that maybe they don't have to abandon in after all.
He looks over at Oak.
"I don't know what this will weigh with that whole other room inside, but want to give lifting it a shot?"
He blinks through the pain again, looking at the others to see if anyone needs help.
"Is everyone free to move? I suspect we may not want to dawdle. Might be a bit of a race to get out of here before we're crushed to death."
Oak is still kneeling before Aimon and his glowing sword. He is in utter awe of what just happened...
As the castle rumbles, he snaps back to the present, “What?!... Yes!.. Of course!..” he says to Aimon. He stows his axe and attempts to close and lift the chest, to take the whole lot with them...
Caelynn watches Aimon rush in for the kill until she’s forced to shield her eyes from the blinding light. Once the room has calmed, she wraps an arm around her injured stomach and is about to heal herself when she sees Sarith crumpled on the ground. She staggers over and kneels by his side, checking his pulse and breathing to see if there’s any chance he can be brought back. She faintly hears the others speaking behind her, but the words go over her head.
Oak, the chest is four feet long and three feet wide. Despite its size and contents, it only weighs five pounds. The wood of the chest is lacquered dark wood. Silver bands wrap around and support the chest.
Caelynn, it is very obvious he is dead. His corpse is dry and shriveled, almost as if he was mummified. Jimjar approaches unsteady on the shaking ground and says resolved, "Help me carry him. I won't leave him here."
Trill, the Tear in your hand absorbs some of the energy released from Brysis, and frost forms in it and your hand. While you hold it, you can feel feel it expand in your grasp.
