Sarith says while still looking at Jimjar, "The Fields of Sorrow is a bunch of ancient ruins near the Darklake. Rumor has it that a dark ritual was performed thousands of years ago that killed everyone in the city. True or not, the Faezre in the region is definitely tainted with foul magic. The earth itself is trying to erase the memory of what happened there, hence the earthquakes."
"It's supposed to be haunted or some bullcrap," Eldeth says while searching around. "Nobody has gotten hurt there from what I've heard, but it is unsettling. However, the Underdark seems to be... different lately."
Jimjar says defensively to Sarith, "It's not my fault that the tunnel leads there. I was just trying to get to the lake!"
"Anyway, bring that shiny thing down so we can see it," a disgruntled Sarith says.
You don't see any traps. When you move the stone, underneath it is indeed a gem. About the size of your palm, it is a perfectly smooth, black sphere. It is slightly translucent and cold to the touch. When you touch it, you can feel that it is vibrating ever so slightly in your hand.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I think we should continue on to another area, and hopefully that thing does not come follow us. I don't feel fully safe her after all of that, but I am willing to look around here a bit longer if any of you feel the need for us to." Zack says. He dismisses the ethereal crossbow and summons a shortsowrd of the same dark purple substance and sheathes it. Seeing some in a somber mood he begins to do one of the things that always soothes him when he is anxious..... SING, although not great. This time it is a dwarvish song his "grandfather" used to sing.

The song
The world was young, the mountains green, No stain yet on the Moon was seen, No words were laid on stream or stone When Durin woke and walked alone. He named the nameless hills and dells; He drank from yet untasted wells; He stooped and looked in Mirrormere, And saw a crown of stars appear, As gems upon a silver thread, Above the shadow of his head.
The world was fair, the mountains tall, In Elder Days before the fall Of mighty kings in Nargothrond And Gondolin, who now beyond The Western Seas have passed away: The world was fair in Durin's Day.
A king he was on carven throne In many-pillared halls of stone With golden roof and silver floor, And runes of power upon the door. The light of sun and star and moon In shining lamps of crystal hewn Undimmed by cloud or shade of night There shone for ever fair and bright.
There hammer on the anvil smote, There chisel clove, and graver wrote; There forged was blade, and bound was hilt; The delver mined, the mason built. There beryl, pearl, and opal pale, And metal wrought like fishes' mail, Buckler and corslet, axe and sword, And shining spears were laid in hoard.
Unwearied then were Durin's folk; Beneath the mountains music woke: The harpers harped, the minstrels sang, And at the gates the trumpets rang.
The world is grey, the mountains old, The forge's fire is ashen-cold; No harp is wrung, no hammer falls: The darkness dwells in Durin's halls; The shadow lies upon his tomb In Moria, in Khazad-dûm. But still the sunken stars appear In dark and windless Mirrormere; There lies his crown in water deep, Till Durin wakes again from sleep.[/sblock]
Aimon scoops the black gem back up and puts it in his pack. There might be more to it than meets the eye at first glance, but at a minimum it might buy them some shelter and food in a pinch.
He listens to the start of Zack's song. He appreciates the effort but maybe Zack's grandfather wasn't the best musician out there, or more likely Zack is still a little on edge from the attack and that's making him a little off key. He thinks it might be a good idea to interrupt.
"That's a, ah, um, meaningful song. Thank you. Now, it seems like we have people who might like a little shut eye. It's been an adventure today. But'" Aimon looks up at the dark cave where the demon came from" this neighborhood is a wee bit sketchy."
He hoists his pack on his back, keeps his hand crossbow ready and draws his rapier.
"Why don't we move on for an hour or so and see if we find a quaint inn, or not quite so hard rock to camp on."
After an hour of trekking through the partially collapsed cavern, you eventually stop to rest. As everyone settles down near the cavern wall, Eldeth offers to take first watch.
Aimon nods to Eldeth to acknowledge her offer to take first watch. He hadn’t realized how tired he was. But when he looks back over the course of the past day, he doesn’t think he’s gotten any rest since he “died” at the hands of the drow guard. He’s been running on empty for awhile.
“My dear noble, Eldeth. You are a gracious gift from the Dwarven gods. Wake me in two hours for next watch.”
He leans in to whisper so Topsy can’t hear.
”I think we may want to keep an eye on that one as much as we do the bogeymen in the dark.
Then he stands and bows to the rest.
”Sweet dreams to all”
He curls up with his pack for a pillow and tries to sleep, trying to angle his body around the rocks and hard ground.
As everyone settles down from the very long day, exhaustion greets you. You pushed yourself hard today.
Anyone who is taking watch, make a Perception Check.
Aimon, as you are sleeping, a dream visits you in the night. You are back at your home in bed. You get up and do your morning routine when you notice the black gem resting on a table. When you see it, all of your attention focuses on it. The world around seems to fade away until it is you and the gem. You feel yourself reaching out to it and when you touch it, you are startled awake by Eldeth. "Your turn," she says.
@Aimon
You have bonded with the Tear of Sorrows. Currently, you have darkvision of 120 feet, resistance to necrotic, and can cast Darkness 3 times per long rest.
Zack wakes the same Time Aimon does. "Mind if I take watch with you?" He says a bit groggy.
"Thank you for appreciating the song, I know I'm not the best at singing but it is a bit of a coping mechanism I have developed when things calm down after stress." Zach says looking out into the darkness. "So, what did you find? Is it anything good?" Zack says changing the subject to the object Aimon had found earlier.
While enjoying time with Aimon, Zack does take the watch serious.
Aimon looks over to Zack as he joins him for the second watch.
"It is a dark thing," he starts. "Perhaps old drow magic, maybe even something older."
Aimon pauses to look around them.
"I can make out the shapes and shadows further than before. Maybe as well as you now. And I think it would allow me to take some of its darkness and cast it out around us. Maybe even fix that impenetrable darkness to something else."
He thinks back to the dream and the connection he feels to the gem now.
"I'm not sure how I know this, but it's called the Tear of Sorrows."
Shaking off the gloom settling over his mind. He claps Zack on the shoulder and laughs, cutting himself off so as not to wake the others.
"How's that for melodrama? I'd call it the Orb of Seeing Better in the Dark but Still Not in the Dark from the Orb Itself," he says. "Hmm. That might need some work yet."

Aimon calls down to the others.
”There’s something nice and shiny up here but no sign of Big Bad.”
He scans the room again.
”Staying the night off the ground would be good but I don’t think we’d all fit in here. I’ll just see what this shiny is and pop back down.”
Aimon is about to reach down and try work loose whatever is reflecting the light when he stops. He shouts back down to Sarith.
”What’re the Fields of Sorrow? And more importantly, are there any shiny things we should definitely not touch?”
"Okay," comes Stool's response .
Sarith says while still looking at Jimjar, "The Fields of Sorrow is a bunch of ancient ruins near the Darklake. Aimon, remembering the poison needle, looks around the rock before removing it to get at the gem.
He holds his breath through all of this, ready to scoop up the gem and bolt for the alcove entrance at the first sign of trouble.
If he finds no traps he moves the rock, looks at the gem, pockets it, and climbs back down to join the others.
You don't see any traps. When you move the stone, underneath it is indeed a gem. About the size of your palm, it is a perfectly smooth, black sphere. It is slightly translucent and cold to the touch. When you touch it, you can feel that it is vibrating ever so slightly in your hand.

Aimon scoops it up quickly and slips it into his pack, touching it as little as possible until he gets it down to the others.
He quickly climbs down the rock face and dumps the gem out in front of everyone.
He looks questioningly at the underdark dwellers in particular.
”So any idea what this is? And more importantly, is it valuable?”
"It looks like a nice rock to me," Jimjar responds, looking slightly flustered. "I get we could sell it for about 500 gold."
