Venovar and Gotur, you make your way to Venovar's mother's house.
She is... alive. But she looks bad. Much worse than when you saw her the previous day. Whatever sickness or ailment is affecting her has sped up immensely. Her entire leg is now rotten, both legs actually. And it's creeping up her torso as well. Her eyes are very cloudy, you can barely see her iris. They look similar to the man's eyes in the alcove down in the sewers. She looks up at Venovar and moans. She can't get words out. She strokes your hand and mumbles a few things that you or Gotur can't make out. She then fumbles around with her hands and pulls out a quill and writes something. It's barely legible, and she dumps the ink all over the paper when she's finished, but the words she writes are:
pl ppl pplllease e e eennd thisssss iii luvvvvv u
What will you do?
And how is Thorvin and Alton responding to the priestess?
“Hello!” Alton says, greeting the priestess amicably. “We are here today to enquire about some healing for a friend of ours. You see, his mother was down in the sewers looking for a ring, and had a run in with some zombies. While that was happening, it seems as though she has been infected, and is pretty far along in the transformation. Is there anything you can do to help? We are willing to pay gold if necessary.”
Thorvin will say to the Priestess: "I have a friend in great need of healing. I have tried to heal her myself but I am not powerful enough to do so. She dropped her ring down a sewer drain and went to retrieve it. While there she was bitten. We went down to investigate and found the sewer contained zombies. we slew several but we do not know how many are down there. I plead with you to help. She is in very bad shape........will you please help us?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(sorry for the delay!)
The priestess looks at Alton and Thorvin as they explain the details of what has transpired. Her eyes widen when Alton gets right to the point about the zombies, and then they change to a more concerned look as the dwarf and halfling explain about Venovar's mother.
She responds:
"Sirs, thank you for coming to bring this to our attention. Unfortunately this type of thing is becoming more common in the city, and it would seem that your friends situation is a dire one indeed. Sewers... hmmm... I will bring this to the attention of the mayor at once, as my colleague was just mentioning an undead sighting in one of the eastern sewer entrances earlier this morn. I do not recommend you returning there. These creatures are extremely dangerous." She pauses and then looks you both up and down. "Although you both seem like you can handle yourselves."
She continues:
"Now, for the situation at hand. From the sounds of it, your friend doesn't have much time. It sounds like the death inside of her has already taken over. If this is true, she will first have to be cleansed of the sickness. The undead needs to be destroyed before any of our magic will work. Un-undead her, if you will."
The priestess goes on and explains to you both that the temple has magic that can raise dead, although it doesn't work on undead. So, Venovar's mother will have to either be killed before she turns, or killed/destroyed while she is in zombie form, and then have the magic applied to the corpse for the resurrection.
((there are lots of opinions about this out there, and I feel this one makes the most sense. Kill the zombie, (Un-undead) and then use resurrection based magic depending on how long she's been dead for))
The priestess then gets awkward after explaining all of this. "The magic is... expensive. Upwards of 500 gold." she looks around the temple. "We do need to manage the upkeep of this place, and the costs of the magic help towards that."
The priestess will answer any questions you have or can interact further if you wish. Otherwise, she gives you both a prayer and bids you farewell.
How will Alton and Thorvin respond?
And meanwhile back at Venovar's mom's place... 5 she starts shaking the note she just wrote violently, and now it sounds like her moans are changing to growls. She's starting to contort. Especially her neck.
How will Venovar and Gotur deal with this?
((temple is about 30 minutes from Ven's mom's place))
Alton is nodding at the priestesses words, and his usual smile slowly changes into a grimace at the sound of the cost. He quickly masks those thoughts with a smile and says, “thank you for the information, we greatly appreciate the help! I think we must meet with our friends first to discuss our plans, but we will be back soon, possibly with a zombie.” After that, Alton grabs Thorvin whispering “we need to talk to Venovar. Now.” He waves to the priestess one final time before turning around and dashing quickly through the city to Venovar and Gotur.
Gotur looks to his companion. "The others should be at the temple by now... If she looks like she's umm... Gonna hurt herself or others, should we.... tie.... Ah, tie her down? I'm sorry man..."
((It would never not be awkward asking someone if you can tie up their mom...))

Thorvin will ask: "Is there some other way besides that much money? Is there something we could do for the Temple that would lower the cost? Our group does not have that much money but we do have other skills......We had Valkur looking over us as we cleaned out a good portion of the sewers but, alas I am not far enough along in service to him for the necessary spells to help my friend."
The priestess nods her head at Alton. "You're welcome, young one. Our temple is guarded with the warriors of Oghma, so we could handle it if you're able to bring the subject here. Although, with limited resources, we don't have a way of helping you get her here."
Gotur, please roll a straight d20.
Thorvin, please roll a persuasion check, with advantage because of your character class and obvious religious / holy symbols on your shield etc.
Venovar starts crying. "I WON'T GIVE UP! Helm... please... give her your aid! It's going to be okay mom... it's.. going to be okay." Venovar will cast Protection from Evil and Good on her and use 5 points from his Lay on Hands pool on her, trying to cure or stall the disease. Also, can Venovar make a religion check to try to connect with Helm in this moment? He also puts the ring on her finger.
He turns to Gotur. "I... I don't... w-want to, but if-f we h-h-have to... we should."
Venovar, you try to comfort your mom who at this point is beginning to flail her arms quite wildly now. Your protective magic and healing energies flow around and into her body, and while it definitely cannot stop what is happening, you notice her arms are swinging a little less and her growling turns into more of a moan. In this moment, you are able to put the ring back on her finger, but connecting with helm might require you to at least remove yourself from this imminent situation so you can focus. Especially since you've just cast a spell which requires concentration.
Ok, so because of Venovar's spells, the process of Venovar's mother turning has been delayed for a few minutes, and any attempt at a potential restraint will have a lower DC.
If either of you will be attempting to tie her up, whoever is doing it please roll either a DEX or a STR check, whichever your character prefers. Also, please make the roll with advantage as I assume the other person will be helping.
OOC: Spiderwrangler, what is your STR mod? I just want to know so we can have the highest chance of success. Mine is +3. Also, I can cast Protection from Evil and Good again on her after the 10 minutes is up, in order to stall more so the others can arrive. That would mean she would be a little better for 20 minutes, but that's all I can do.
((Venovar and Gotur are evenly matched in the muscle department, but narratively, I think it makes more sense for you to do the tying, and he'll be assisting.))

Thorvin, the priestess looks you up and down. "Alas. We all fight the good fight. I want to help, I really do." she thinks about something, then sighs. "Listen. If you're able to get her body here, I'll cut the price in half. Remember, once the undead is destroyed from her, she can remain dead until the magic is applied. We have secure tombs below our temple where we can keep her body. Keep in mind, the longer she remains dead, the more expensive the spell components will be... so the sooner you can get us the funds, the better."
She explains that it'll be 200 gold for the Raise Dead procedure, and 300 gold for the Resurrection.
She reiterates that if Ven's mom has turned, she will need to be killed first (un-undead) and then have the magic applied.
Meanwhile -> Venovar, you cast the protective spell once again. While it has the same calming effect, you can tell that the turning process is taking over and the spell will not be effective again. It does buy you 20 minutes of a relatively calm almost-turned zombie, but after that, she will be 100% angry mom-zombie. A Mombie.
With that STR roll, Venovar and Gotur are able to secure the semi-subdued creature quite tightly. She won't be able to make any type of strength check to break the ropes until she changes completely into Mombie.
****Thorvin, I don't think you made that persuasion roll with advantage - so go ahead and make another attempt, and if it's high enough, I will retroactively make the priestess response different if need be.
