Gotur, you find a plethora of different plants and herbs along the way! These include Lavender Sprig, Mandrake Root and some Milkweed Seeds along the river.
Ok, I really like the idea that Ralf has done some funerals at Thundertree after the eruption and destruction of the village. That being said, these funerals likely happened many years ago, and so while Ralf does have an idea of the layout of the land, he wouldn't know what is in each ruined building. A lot can change in that amount of time.
Perhaps these ruins have some different inhabitants.
That being said, I have added the new map to our sheets on the 'Map' tab.
I will add a map to the 'Zoom' tab if/when it is needed for a zoomed in closer map view.
So, you are coming into the ruins from the southwest corner of the map. Please let me know how you all are going to approach this, which way you will go, if you will split up, what checks you might make along the way if you are trying to be quiet and/or on the lookout for things, etc. etc.
One thing I will tell you without any checks because it would be blatantly obvious is that there are 2 scarecrows perched up by the path. They are not moving.
The samurai took a seat so he wouldn't be in such a big crowd. his mind was in another world so he can ignore that sounds of the other races and people.
Gotur slams his staff into the ground and roots tear open the ground under the armored figure, pulling him under and closing in above him.
((Samurai sorted. Did the group learn anything more about the scarecrows besides them being resistant to non magical weapon damage? Half remember something...))
Gotur and Ralf, you'd know that given the unnatural nature of these baddies, they are resistant to most types of weapons if they are not magical. Also, you aren't 100% sure what animates them, but you know that these creatures are unnatural and have been created by something, or someone. Ralf, you also deduce that fire would burn them right up.
((There it is.... Ralf, can we assume this has been shared knowledge? I don't remember seeing it at the time.))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Alton will try to stay about 30-50 feet ahead of the group, scouting for any possible dangers. As he does this, he will slink from shadow to shadow, from bush to bush in an attempt to stay hidden from threats.
Stealth: 9
To Gotur and Ralf, Alton doesn’t look very stealthy, but at least he seems to be having fun with it.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As the party enters the ruins of Thundertree, Ralf will make a Perception check, helped my Mori as well as guided by himself. Before Alton goes off, Ralf puts a hand on his shoulder, whispering "My friend, with you, the Raven Queen is." and giving him Guidance, adding a d4 to his Stealth check. ((Also, are the scarecrows looking directly at us?)) Ralf will then put his arm on Gotur's shoulder. "Using Mori's eyes, scouting the area, am I. Hold on to you, I must, because blind, will I be. If you go anywhere, make sure, holding onto you, am I. Shake me if, danger, there is." Ralf will then turn his senses off (becoming Blinded and Deafened) and see through Mori's eyes. Mori will then fly high up and around the ruins of Thundertree, trying to see what she can see from her high vantage point.
Ralf's Perception: 16 + 2
Alton's Guidance: 3
Mori's Perception: 9
((I do think I have seen this map before, just so you know, but it won't effect much because I'm assuming this version of Thundertree is very different based on the context of this adventure))
((I am going to make the experience as different as possible for you Snake! Some things will be the same, some different, but it kind of fits perfect that you as a player have been through this place before because it makes it so Ralf actually HAS been here before. And we can say that any of the people/encounters/anything else that I do keep from the original module Ralf just already has knowledge about.))
Ralf, these look like regular scarecrows, and so you aren't sure if they are looking at you, or looking off into the sky with their scarecrow button eyes. They are looking... forward.
Ralf, you do everything as described. Mori scans the entire ruins. As they do this, you start to remember the different structures and how the place is setup, along with remembering that most of the structures are destroyed and have no roofs. I have uncovered on the map what you have seen based on Mori's perception roll. You saw the insides of all buildings but it wasn't clear enough to see the inhabitants of any of the buildings.
((I know it might be odd that you can see the intricate details of the map and not the inhabitants of the buildings, but let's just go with it. 14 just doesn't justify showing where all of the baddies are!))
Let's assume that Ralf does pass all of the info he gets from his Mori vision once Mori is done, and therefore you all know about the new map.
Alton, with Ralf's guidance, you are able to creep through the shadows and hide behind the trees well enough to not get noticed by anything. You move forward 30-50 ft ahead of the party. The scarecrows don't seem to react to you and you manage to get a good vantage point behind that big tree.
Let me know what is next! If no stealth checks are made, I will assume you are not trying to be quiet when approaching any building.
Once Alton sees the scarecrows he will go back to the group and alert them of their presence— staying with them after that. Then he will pull out a dagger, prepared to throw it if they come to life.
Alton, you return back to the others with a dagger at the ready, and then Gotur launches a torch at one of the scarecrows. It is pretty accurate, landing 1 foot by its foot and it eventually catches fire and burns up at the stake! It is slightly windy today, and so after awhile, some lit straw blows over to the other scarecrow and they both eventually burn up.
They were normal scarecrows.
The smoke might've alerted things in and around the structures nearby. Who knows.
What is next?
The map tab is updated. Zoom will be updated once we need it.
"Well... I thought that would be a relief, but I'm kind of even more weirded out now... who puts two scarecrows in the road like that? Give me a moment to get ready."
Gotur plants his staff on the ground with his left hand and gestures with his right before grasping the staff tight. Starting at his hands, scales of bark fold out, continuing up his arms, over his face and torso until he's completely encased in protective bark.
He gives himself a shake. "Just another moment... and don't worry... my bite IS worse than my bark."
Gotur hunches over, his body reforming until standing in his place is a barkskinned black bear.
Got-bear gives a whuffling sniff of the air.

Got-bear with barkskin (AC = 16?) takes form and takes a big whiff of the air. He smells...death. The air stinks of death.
((I have also changed the map a bit in that I re-covered the structures that have roofs. I didn't realize that some of the buildings have roofs and Mori wouldn't have been able to see into those ones. Makes more sense this way anyhow especially with the maps so intricate with the insides of the buildings and whatnot. Some of the covered buildings have windows, which you can look into with perception checks.))
Got-bear, that check was just a smell, so that's all you really get from smell, is that this place smells like death and decay. Smells... unnatural, given that you are very close to a huge forest. Something isn't right in the world in this particular place right now.
((ctleath13 - just to make sure, do you mean the abandoned house (square-shaped) that is to the south with no roof, or the one to the east (rectangular shape), with the building blacked out? Either way, can you also roll a perception check? Thanks!))
Ok, Alton you are very light and quiet on your feet (as per usual these days) and you make your way down to that first ruined structure. Cowering in the shadow of an old tree is a crumbled stone cottage with no roof. It seems empty inside from what you can tell. Weeds are rampant in there, too.
If you continue to the other buildings in that section with no roofs kind of in a south-east direction, please make another perception check, and another stealth check.
What are the others doing? Waiting for Alton to do an initial stake out first?
