Feeling the vibration of the monolith Lilandra feels the need to get away. She will move in the opposite direction of the unknown figure on the hill. Right before she moves she will point him out for a very short time and then rush away.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As the group starts to scatter Morgan frowns, glancing around. Then he notices the trembling of the ground and moves to join them in finding cover. Quickly moving behind some trees and bushes he attempts to keep his armor from jangling too much...
As the group scrambled for cover together behind some nearby trees, the rumbling monolith slowly slid backwards, revealing the 10ft by 10ft stone base it had been resting upon. Most of that base was dominated by a large hole, a gaping pit from which wisps of swirling fog emerged like greedily grasping ghostly grey tendrils.
Shortly thereafter, a familiar menacing figure arose from the foggy pit. First the shaved head, leering orange eyes, and large curved horns. Then the shoulders and torso covered in thick, defined muscles. Then finally the legs in loose pants tucked into boots that stood atop a circular platform that stopped flush with the base of the monolith. The platform was covered in carvings that depicted a crowded scene of a whole horde of fiendish monsters all fighting and killing one another.
Dakara took a few steps forward off the platform, his tail swishing around behind him like a slithering snake. The blue-skinned tiefling then held high with one of his massive arms an object that was both gorgeous in its level of craftsmanship but frightening in its detail.
The object was some kind of giant silver chalice with a cup as large as a person’s head. It had a base crafted to look like a swirling magical portal, a stem in the likeness of a large devilish arm emerging from that portal, and the cup made to look like it was being tightly grasped by the claws of that arm. The cup also appeared to be ringed with large, bulbous eyes made out of frosty purple gemstones.
“It is done!” bellowed Dakara’s words from behind what seamed like a permanent sneer. “Our enigmatic client has begun his ritual and graced us with payment! Now, take hold of the devastating power we’ve craved for so long!”
With an underhanded toss, the infamous fighter cast the chalice onto the stone steps, where it bounced downhill a few times before rolling to a stop. Not long after, two more figures emerged, dropping down from the treetops flanking each side of the stairs.
Descending from the side the party was hiding on, a short way downhill from them, was the same six-limbed bug-man creature they spotted before. After landing in a crouch, it stood up to its impressive full seven foot height. It had a sleek yet powerful-looking build, and its exoskeleton gave its body an armored appearance. Its antennae were waving at the chalice and its mandibles snapped loudly in anticipation.
Dropping on the opposite side of the crumbling stone staircase was the other individual described in the secondhand account of Caelia’s kidnapping. And indeed, she did appear to have the physique, including the long pointed ears, of an elf with green skin. She had thick black hair lazily gathered into a mess of tangled spikes and unsettling black eyes with yellow pupils. She was clad in a random patchwork of assorted belts, knives, and hides, including a pair of wolf tails on her right hip and also sported a number of large spiraling jagged tattoos all over her body. Whatever she was, she seemed unimpressed.
“Setchka naz vutai! What’s this shit?” she snarled, crossing her arms. “A freaking cup? Garz’vak!”
Dakara just grinned. “Heh. This is no simple cup, believe me. But I could care less what you think. I got what I wanted. The chalice has two charges left, so take it or leave it, although only a fool would pass up this kind of power.”
[The kidnappers appear to be occupied with their ongoing conversation and may not have noticed you all yet, so what would you like to do? From your concealed positions, some hushed talk amongst each other should be possible.]
(If i understand correctly, the chalice is between us and them? How far away is it and how far away are they? The only one close is the bugcreature if im correct.)
I'll try to clarify as best I can. If anyone knows a good way to post or share custom images please let me know for future reference. For now, please bear with... whatever this is... (I tried).
The intent of the diagram is just to give a very, very rough visual guideline of relative positions as I imagined them. (For instance, if you imagined sneaking up the right side of the monolith instead of the left, just pretend the diagram is mirrored).
As far as distances, I'd say that Dakara and the monolith would be about one movement away, the bug creature would be about one movement away, the chalice would be about two movements away, and the unknown "green elf" creature would be about three movements away.
Hope that helps.
EDIT: I realize the attempted "map" is all kinds of messed up. Please disregard. I'll leave it in a spoiler just to remind myself how poorly that went though.
EDIT EDIT: As far as positioning, Dakara and the monolith are at the top of the hill, you guys are off to the side in the treeline a bit downhill, further down the hill the chalice is right in the middle of the stairs, and the bug creature and "green elf" are at opposite treelines with the chalice between them.
Timeline clarification: Caelia is abducted yesterday evening. Baron and his wife spend evening and almost all of the night investigating. Party arrives when the night is almost over. Travel goes through dawn into the morning. It is now late morning/early afternoon. The forest is just so thick and dense that it still looks dark. At rare breaks in the canopy, such as directly above the monolith, sunlight is clearly visible.
Lighting conditions on the hill are dim light. (Disadvantage on visual perception checks). The general area around the monolith at the top of the hill is bright light.
Morthos stood in awe as the huge monolith slid backwards, revealing Caelia’s kidnappers. He listens as they talk about rituals and looks closely at the chalice. More dark magic. He wasn’t sure if it wise to attack yet, given there was a powerful artifact in their grasp. If a fight were to break out, someone will have to grab that cup before the kidnappers could use it.
Morthos first tries to remember anything he can about the chalice. If it was a powerful magic item, surely there would be some mention of it in history?
Arcana(or History, with only +1 modifier): 11
Also, he will try to identify the bug-creature and the green-skinned elf. History: 10
Then, he will whisper to his companions. “We should strike now! Who knows what they will do with that cup?”

Nothing in the realm of common knowledge would spring to the mind of Morthos specifically regarding the giant silver chalice beyond that which he had already infered. Setting the context of the situation aside, the terrible appearance of the great cup alone was enough to suggest some kind of dark and/or fiendish origin. Anything that looked like that and was boasted to grant great power was sure to be worthy of utmost caution. Additionally, the strange gems on the chalice might be related to the "charges" the tiefling mentioned. The gems were large and took up much space on the cup's surface, so Morthos would have noticed that there were not many of them and that at least one appeared darker than the others.
As far as the kidnappers went, it was now clear that the bipedal insectoid creature and the feral elf-like being had been prowling this hill while Dakara had been underground. It was a wonder Morthos and the rest had avoided detection, but now that all the reported abductors had revealed themselves at the promise of payment, the party was put in quite the fortuitous position.
While puzzling over what they could be, Morthos would not glean much. However, the verbose bard would recognize the female's tendancy to slip into another, harsher language between phrases in common, indicating that common was likely not her native tounge and only surfaced with deliberate effort on her part. Additionaly, he could tell that other language of hers was not among the typical "civilized" languages, and although he couldn't identify exactly what it was, it sounded... primitive, and exotic.
A bit worried about facing these foes all at once Lilandra gathers her courage and nods speaking softly Alright, i will aid everyone as best i can. We still have the element of surprise it seems.
Lilandra will keep an eye on the bugcreature, since it is on their side of the chalice. Perhaps i can take one of you to the chalice before they can reach it. I wont be able to do much else so it will be up to the rest to strike.
She looks to the bug creature again. Perhaps starting with that thing.
(ooc im fairly sure i can take 1 of you to the chalice but that would be the middle of the fight so id suggest Thad or Morgan since its not gonna be safe to do it.)
"Let us go then." Morgan says. He looks to the others. I can keep one of them focused on me, but you will need to deal with the others." He would be ready to go to the challice as soon as everyone is ready.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Morthos, seeing the others have readied to attack, speaks some words of encouragement to Thaedren and Morgan."Show them the folly of their ways. Let them taste your steel!"
He pats both of them on the back and casts Heroism using a 2nd level spell slot. Both of them receive 4 temporary hit points at the beginning of their turn. Then, he draws a rapier and dagger in his hands and prepares for a battle.
(Temp hp should be enough padding for you to go in and grab the thing. We may want someone with a high wis save in case the chalice does some possession shenanigans. When combat starts, here is my initiative: 13)
Lilandra nods, Good luck, start making your way to the bug she says Thad and Morthos.
Then looks to Morgan, Get on once im ready. Standing behind the first treeline she makes sure sight of her is covered by brush and trees.
She gets down on her knees and exhales closing her eyes clearing her thoughts and setting her mind to focus. Her body still, covered by the veil, is changing color. Her skin darkens and contorts. She tries to contain some moans and groans as best she can. Her body gaining mass quickly and falling onto all fours. The veil from her spell still covering her making the others only vaguely see what is happening. When the transformation is finally complete Lilandra has become a horse, a brown horse with beautiful blond manes just like Lilandra's hair.
No longer able to speak in her current form she nudges Morgan with her head and waits for him to climb on.
Once Morgan is on she will take a last look at Thad and Morthos then quickly start her charge. With her powerfull legs she builds some speed and leaps over the brush where they were hiding and runs as fast she can towards the chalice. The grey veil still covering all of them would hopefully give them a little extra time before their foes react as they will see but a blurry form.
Making large strides she covers ground quickly racing towards her goal. With Morgan on her back she would look like the noble warrior is riding into battle with his horse with a heroic charge.
Her focus and view will be forward, only seeing Dakara in the corner of her eyes and the green elf forward. She trusts her old friend Thad to make sure they are not attacked from the rear by the bugcreature.
Action: Wild shape into a Warhorse (this should not break concentration for pass without a trace) Movement: 60ft (warhorse) towards chalice, since you said its about 2 movements which i assume is 60ft. I gues we should get their or get close enough for Morgan to pick up the chalice with minor movement.
Concentration: Still on pass without a trace, after running into the open it would still be on Morgan and Lilandra but wouldnt hide us, but would still allow Morthos and Thad to hide better to hopefully get a surprise attack.

Good to know, thank you! I don't have time to mess with it anymore right now though, maybe later tonight.
