Amazing post, Lilandra!
[ROLL INITIATIVE!]
Dakara 22
"Bug Creature" 7
"Green Elf" 7
Lilandra and Morgan are at the chalice. Morgan may make an attempt to grab it before the top of the round (Athletics check). The enemies are surprised and will not take an action or movement their first turn. Thad and Morthos, if attacking, may do so with advantage.
Good luck all! Be smart, roll well, fight hard, and have fun with it!
Morgan grips the sides of the war horse with his powerful thighs, his family's main product was horses, and he knew a solid mount when he saw one. While his family's horses were prized across the land, this horse-form was far superior to even their best. As they galloped up to the chalice, Morgan leans down to attempt to grab it...
The green-skinned creature scoffed. “Tch… I ain’t refusin’ what we’re rightfully owed now that we’ve done our part. Just don’t see how this thing is supposed to give it to us is all.”
She and the humanoid insect made a start towards the large silver chalice laying in the middle of the stone stairs. Upon setting foot on the weathered stone, the insectoid’s exoskeleton once again changed color with a matching rocky grey shade spreading over its body. Seeing it begin to move, the heavily armed bug’s co-kidnapper let out an angry bark.
“Jak’ta! Back off *******! I call it!” she cast a sideways glance up at the tiefling at the top of the hill as she took a few steps towards the chalice. “Hey, Dakara, you said you already took your share? How’s this thing supposed to work any-“
At that moment, there was burst of movement as Lilandra and Morgan exploded from the treeline! Like a misty specter in the vague shape of a horse and rider, they crossed the distance to the chalice in the blink of an eye, causing the startled elf-like creature to leap back out of reflex.
“What the-!!!”
Morgan is up first! Your earlier roll wasn’t enough to snag the chalice on the first try, but since it’s your turn right away you have another chance.
Action: Wild shape into a Warhorse (this should not break concentration for pass without a trace) Movement: 60ft (warhorse) towards chalice, since you said its about 2 movements which i assume is 60ft. I gues we should get their or get close enough for Morgan to pick up the chalice with minor movement.
Concentration: Still on pass without a trace, after running into the open it would still be on Morgan and Lilandra but wouldnt hide us, but would still allow Morthos and Thad to hide better to hopefully get a surprise attack.
Side note... How did you get that text in a box like that?
(on the editor it has the buttons for bold, italic underline, strikethrough and then the quote sign. Thats the blockquote that i used. In the quote block it makes you can just edit text like normal, doesnt look exactly the same when ur editing but on post it comes out like what i did)
That would be your action, yes. (The athletics check to attempt to scoop it up that is. After falling you can simply pick it up since you're basically on top of it). You can still move (half your movement to get up from prone after that wipeout) and/or speak if you so choose, or use a bonus action if you have one.
As Morgan hit the ground, on top of the goblet, he got his hand wrapped around it finally. He then surged up to his feet. With another surge he was back atop the horse, with the goblet in his hand.
[Since this game is designed as an experiment I'm thinking I'll try something different with initiative after Morthos closes out this round. In the meantime though, for PbP would I cue whoever goes next like in real life, or would they just go?
If you just go, then don't mind me. If you need a cue, I guess this counts, huh? And if it's a "it's your call, DM" thing, then I'm good with people posting as soon as the character or NPC ahead of them has posted.]
(OOC - it sometimes helps if you cue after narrating outcome of player actions. I've had combat go for weeks in some games, so it's easy to forget where we're at.)
[Well the reason I brought up the question is because I was thinking about just that. Probably thinking way too hard.
In real life even on the "player's turn" there's often a fair amount of back-and-forth between the player and DM, it's not actually just the player on the player's turn. And that's no big deal because in person it only takes seconds or minutes to have that back-and-forth. But one of the major distinctions of playing via text is that those back-and-forths might be spread out over the span of hours or even days.
Sometimes that's unavoidable. If on their turn in combat a player wanted to talk to an NPC for example, then of course that requires me to respond in order for that player to resolve their turn. Other times the player might not actually need me to narrate what happens or make rulings so all I have to do is nod, say "okay", and look at the next player and tell them "your turn". Actually, after having typed all that, I just realized that although I was imagining that in real life, the EXACT SAME THING is possible in text too.
Sorry, this is unedited stream-of-consciousness writing right now. Have you ever done that thing where you're telling a friend about a problem, but just by talking out loud you end up finding the solution without your friend having to say anything? Because I just did that. In writing.
I was worried about trying to save time, because unlike a live session I might be at work or asleep when a player takes their turn here. In this specific scenario, Morgan basically just stood up and got on a horse. Not much for me to narrate right? So at first I thought it would be easier if people just freely posted because rather than wait for me to essentially repeat things. But the completely obvious fact I apparently somehow missed is that things won't always be that simple, sometimes I will need to work stuff out with players during their turn (which may be a lot or may be almost nothing at all), and that even in a text game that remains the case.
In conclusion, sorry if that sounded like a major "no shit, Sherlock" moment. But I figured it out now and can apply this understanding going forward.
(In programming, thats called rubber duck debugging, you tell your problem to the duck and by talking through it you find the solution. Also what works in most games is that the players turn is combined and the enemies turn is combined, then you dont have to wait on the exact order or initiative. The players would all post their turn maybe combining actions based on whoever posted first then you as the DM summarizes what happens and do same for enemies. This usually prevents having to wait for several players to post one by one and speeds up the progress. Both have their positives and negatives)
Seeing Morgan picked up the chalice she will turn back around feeling there is safety in numbers and not wanting to lose the prize by dividing themselves. She will run back towards the bugcreature to meet with the others there. Galloping swiftly increasing her speed and lowers her head slightly trying to gain some more speed as her manes wave frantically in the wind.
As she reaches the bugcreature she will try to run into him before slowing down, trying to knock him off his feet. After that Lilandra will move in a short circle to slow down and turn herself around.
Getting close to the bugcreature she will lift her front hooves from the ground rearing up onto only her back legs with the weight of Morgan added onto hers then bring down her front hooves trying to land on the bugcreature.
Movement: 60ft if i need all, to move back to the bugcreature. Action: Trying to get Trampling Charge with hooves (narrating it as running into him but will use hooves attack for mechanics) Attack: 24 Damage: 8, the creature will need to do a str save DC 14 or be knocked prone. Info on attack:
Trampling Charge. If the horse moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with a hooves attack on the same turn, that target must succeed on a DC 14 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is prone, the horse can make another attack with its hooves against it as a bonus action.
Since its a high hitroll i will assume i hit him AND if knock him prone, if both happen i can bonus action, otherwise ignore the extra attack or make it automiss.
Bonus action: Hooves at prone target with adv Attack: 11 Damage: 15

CURRENT TURN: LILANDRA
[BUG STRENGTH SAVE 3]
The humanoid insect went sprawling upon collision with Lilandra's powerful horse form, letting out a surprised high-pitched wail as it tumbled to the wide stone steps in a clatter. Its antennae wriggled frantically, and its ant-like head snapped up just barely in time to see the hooves come crashing down!
[BONUS ACTION ATTACK MISS]
TURN CONCLUDED
CURRENT TURN: BUG CREATURE
With a surge of effort, the enemy creature flung its body into a log roll, just barely avoiding Lilandra's hooves as they smashed down into the stone. It rolled towards Lilandra rather than away, flopping onto its back directly under her belly. From a sheath mounted to a leather shoulder guard strapped across its chest, the bug drew a large hunting knife with one of its multiple arms and used it to slash upward into her equine gut!
Attack: 23 Damage: 8
Attack: 9 Damage: 2
After drawing blood, the insect tucked its long legs into a forceful backwards roll that rotated it back onto its feet at Lilandra's flank, where it then attempted to use that momentum to leap back and away from its ambushers.
Amazing post, Lilandra!

Morgan nearly falls off the back of his shape-changed companion, but manages to hold on. He makes another grab for the goblet...
Athletics: 6
(Going to wait to see how that turns out prior to doing the rest o fhis action.)
With a grunt he does fall off the horse then.
(If on the ground can he just pick up the thing, as it is just an object on the ground and normally those don't require checks to pick up...)
Does he get any other actions? Not sure if the picking up the item was his full action or not.
That would be your action, yes. (The athletics check to attempt to scoop it up that is. After falling you can simply pick it up since you're basically on top of it). [OPPORTUNITY ATTACK - LILANDRA, MORGAN]
Not seeing the bugcreature beneath her Lilandra feels sharp stabs into her belly and she neigh's stumbling a bit left and right.
Trying to get away from the creature she sees it apearing on her flank and quickly trees to strech a leg to kick the creature as he tries to get away.
Morgan slashes out at the bug-creature...
Attack: 18 Damage: 11
He misjudges the strike as his mount's hooves slam the bug creature out of the path of Morgan's blade.
