What rarity is the All-Purpose Tool? Also, Huarache will give his Luckstone to Hondo; Huarache needs to have a magic weapon to be attuned to, and Hondo would get plenty of use from it. Finally, if I'm understanding this correctly, each of the twelve baubles you named is sort of like a Portkey that can be activated by touching it with the apparatus (or perhaps something more complicated), correct?
+1 tool = uncommon, sorry I forgot to specify.
The baubles are portal things. The apparatus can interact with them. I'm also going to make it crystal clear that the coffin thing Ctenmiir is in is an apparatus of Kwalish coupe. It can do most things the full size one can, including bauble interfacing. So, if you grab all the baubels you can use them later if needed. That might help you decide what your doing next
I absoultely would allow you to take them without activating them, especially since it seems by RAW to indicate that interfacing is an active thing, and they're embedded in fragile statues, so yep, take them to go if you like.
"The thing that puzzles me most about all of this is, why was Kwalish the target for that cult? And what's he doing now? Maybe if we go out and collect some of those portal objects, we can figure that out."
"Agreed." Leann speaks up, fidgitting with her new sun blade. "Bring them back here and we can interface, or whatever you called it, with them here in relative safety, or at least as safe as this place is likely to get."
I think now is the time for a refresher. The original group was hired in Port Nyanzaru by a gnomish cartographer named Anaxi Xephries whose great-grandfather went on an expedition with Kwalish to the city of Daoine Gloine. Xephries's great-grandfather was never seen again, and he wants us to find what happened to him, and maybe find "the truth of Daoine Gloine." We have found part of the latter with Kwalish's journal, but I feel like there's more to the story.
The city's automated defenses disabled, the group takes a long rest as they gather up their things and prepare the apparatus of Kwalish. The rising sun signs the beginning of their search for the baubles Kwalish hid throughout the flooded city. Using the machine's extending claws, they retrieve 27 baubles from the various tableaus.
Ooc :(twelve of them are the ones indicated above, but in-game the PCs wouldnt know yet which ones are portals and which are decoys. Brute force solutions are possible, just try them all, but these are planar gateways, so an educated guess might be desirable. There's also the tsall tower. It zounds like the group wants to go back to rhe garage ro open portals, though. Is that right?)
Leann would be for the brute force approach, just keep trying the portals until they find the one they need. Taken out of the ooze, the things are now out of context, so not sure how we would make educated guesses any longer, unless we make notes of exactly what was around each as we gathered them.
"Can someone try to detect magic on them?" Leann does suggest. "Maybe the portal ones show up as magical, while the others are just crystal..."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sigurd, knowing he's not really the person for this type of work, will take the long rest and keep an eye out for any other surprises this city might spring on them so the others can do their thing.
He'll also attune to and practice a bit with the sunsword.
Sigurd, while playing practicing with the sun blade, notices something unusual about the baubles. The daylight it shines on some of them, refracts throgh the crystal baubels, creating a prismatic rainbow as it does so. Some of the baubles, though, do not peosuce this effect. A close inspection of these 15 decoys reveal them to be mere glass, decoys set about to further obscure the portals Kwalish left behind. Sigurd (possibly with some help from the others) has discerned the 12 true portal entrances. Where each leads is still anyone's guess.
Huarache will ritual cast Detect Magic to figure out which ones are real.
I was already typing when this post came up. You would succeed with this approach, but the light thing is hiw it's written in the module. You would find strong conjuration magic coming from the true ones, but you can save the spell slot.
So, if nobody picks one, i heard brute force and thats a d12. Now's a chance for anyone to intercede.
“Wait!” Hondo yells before someone tries to use brute force. “These baubles create portals, correct? But where to?” He sets the baubles from the devil and the Medusa aside, “I don’t trust those.” He looks at the one that was found at playground. “Well, playgrounds are fun and for children, so..maybe?”
While you think about it, I have to let you know that I calculated the xp after the last encounters. Since you arrived in Daoine Gloine, you have each earned 5017xp. It looks like some of you will reach level 7 right now. (23,000xp). Please update your character sheets accordingly.
*Wait, is a Sun Dagger a possible thing?*

Wait, we can take them without activating them? Good to know.
And AkanosNovak, I'm sure that that could be homebrewed, but the Sun Blade is a finesse weapon, if that's what concerns you.

*Okay*
Hey, Huarache, if you got a Sun Blade left, and no one wants it, Ill take it.
Sigurd asked first, sorry. If we find more parts to make one, then we could all be Jedi.

So we’re going to get the baubles? Maybe we can take a short rest first. Omiy just got slapped by an undead kenku, she could use a break.

“I trust Hondo. So we’re trying the bauble from the playground?” Omiy asks. She grabs it from the pile and tries to connect it to the apparatus.
Huarache runs into the machine and manipulates the controls so that the appendage grabs the bauble.
