“What I was fighting the group who stole your gems, the serpentine women is wanted by the nightsister in the future I was sent here to stop them before they achieved their goal” Sam say whilst looking interested at the fluids
(OOC: Ok then, but I´m struggling to see Etrigan getting committed to a mission that isn´t his unless Huarache at least tries to convince him to help out. Etrigan would still go back though but rather to kill priests than anything else at this point. It would be good for the adventure I think if Huarache, as the only original adventurer present, could step up and take the lead, Etrigan would be prepared to follow.:-)
After being told this backstory, Tetrevess says “im most interested in seeing the planar craft that’s been converted into a temple. That’s why I am in town. I’m a scholar of history and arcana, and there’s some mysteries there I don’t understand. If I can be of service to rescuing your friends, all the better- i will do this …for a fair share of the spoils, of course. I propose you tell me what you know of the place, how to get in, guards and occupants, and we will come up with a strategy. I consider myself a mere dabbler in the arcane -compared to the masters I study, but I am not totally useless.”
A half-elf rubs the back of his head and winces. That bump is going to be there for some time, he thinks to himself. He had earlier escaped his cell and just exited the empty warden’s office after re-acquiring his gear surreptitiously. How had he gotten here? Memories were cloudy, disjointed, surreal. He had come here with a team … to retrieve … something. 8 headed creature. Pain. Darkness. An owl with a human head. Really? If it weren’t for the bump on his head, he’d believe this nothing but a fevered dream.
Well, if he had been with a team, he’d better find them. But for now he was alone. He’s pretty sure he heard a person in distress, could this be one of his party? He stealthfully advances to find out.

DD is a success. Etrigan and (if he is willing) Huarache emerge other surface, though they stand ankle deep in the fens, the road is within sight and they can walk to it with only a bit of discomfort.
Sam, Echo and (narratively) Leann remain in the temple below. in the room on the top right.(Northeast)
Reposting for the benefit of our new members. Stairs ro the north are the entrance from the surface.
Barril: Battle sounds cane from the East. Following that route, you come to a fork. You could follow straight or turn left and head south. You wouldn't really have rhe map, the other PCs do.
Thesselar seems to be taking a moment to consider the Lizardfolk’s words. After a moment, the homunculus contorts Thessalar’s face again. A devilish smile across his cruel lips, he begins: "so, you have come to visit us from the future... that is quite the honor. I don't imagine just anyone gets to be a destination for time travelers. I have so.many questions, but I'll start with just three, if you'll indulge me. First, how many others did you travel with? Second, by what means did you travel? Third, could you describe to me a beast known, at least in this time, as an OWLBEAR?" His facial expression remains frozen as the homunculus grips his skin, waiting for Sam's reply.
<ooc: question for the group. What do we do about Logan? He was with you when you dimension door-ed out, though he actually could have done that at the expense of some hp. I think it's actually how you got to the Temple in the first place. Post long rest, his charges should be full again. So, if he stayed in the temple, he would be autonomous if everyone else was incapacitated. He himself, could also be destroyed and potentially repaired and possibly employed by another master. If I did that though, I feel like it would be unfair, since the PCs probably would have asked him to transport them. I don't really know though, that's why I'm asking their players. So, what do you think?>
Edit: for those who don't know, Logan is the shiny metal winged skeleton created? by Kwalish. It is the force that controls the time travel mechanic and can also teleport the party of significant distances. It had 0/6 charges remaining, but can be fueled by soul energy as well, which mercifuly comes in the form of mere hp and not levels of exhaustion. After the same long rest the PCs had, he has 2 charges.

He looks at thesselar with more interest and the same hellish smile “well if I tell you it could leave me in an paradoxical satiate, kwalish has figured not only planer travel but time travel, you remember that person called Logan he’s a construct that use life force to shift time/travel with enough energy, then I’ve really only heard of owlbear in my timeline they have been lost in chult for some time I’ve been task with sessine to bring this tribe to and others to help conquer chult and kill Arkhan the cruel to prevent Tiamat rise from avernes”
he takes a breath “after we build this temple we are betrayed to a Demilich and are bodies and soul are here to power and guard this place so do you all want to rot and see are people collapse into nothing we once ruled as kings I say we are pawns in this game play by this lich, you follow me and I promise to you all we will soke the sand with his blood and the blood of others who dare to stop are conquering of this island and are HOME”
<Well, at least now the villain has a firm grasp on all the lore. I am personally learning some of this in real time, but anything I don't directly co traditional is true as far as I know. The only thing I will correct is that this is not an island. Otherwise, the rest stands.>
The homunculus contorts the mage's face again, twisting his visage into a dark scowl. "You will bring me this "Logan" at once. Take these two with you. " He adds, referring to the pair of guards on either side of the room. "Were going to make sure that snake never finishes his precious tomb. Once I have this Logan, you will go and steal the plans for the tomb from Moghadam and that half-fiend never attains lichdom."
At this, Thesellar turns his attention to an experiment on the far end of the room. Glass piping connects tanks holding strange liquids and materials, all in an ongoing state of transmutation. A miniaturized human lies in apparent stasis in a windowed glass case. A vermiform pseudodragon twists and crawls about inside a large crystal tank. The strange fluids flow from one vessel to the other in a loop.
As he us led out of rhe room, Sam finds himself in a massive L-shaped laboratory space is filled with creatures strapped down to tables or chained to the floor, all attended to by lizardfolk workers. In this north wing of the lab, two tables sit, connected by silver wires to other tables. More silver wires connect the tables to a complex control panel standing between them.
<Thesselar doesn't recognize the name, whether he has seen the shiny construct or not. Now Sam had free passage to do as he pleases, for now anyway. So where does Sam go North or West?>
Sam and Barrill are both in rooms on the map posted in #3512. They just don't know quite where they are, though Dam has seen the map, so he could make a guess with some confidence.
(OOC- Logan sounds pretty cool, I hope he is with us still- sounds like he could have been).
Tetrevess says to his companions in the Inn-” let’s figure out how to get your friends. Now can you tell me- how do we get inside? What guards did you face? I can use some magic to help increase our odds of success- If you give me some ideas”
<ooc: Sam wouldn't know it, but if he just leaves the temple and follows the road, they're just a few miles in that direction. The road is purpose built to access the temple you are now in, so it's the only way to go unless you trek through the moors.
Logan will be with the party in town. ICYMI, he can cast disguise self so, he shouldn't stick out too much in a town of quiet folk who keep to themselves. This is an ad hoc thing by me, so the limits to use are poorly defined, and I assume dictated by design, something Kwalisb built in. (Functionally, I'm thinking if Transformers, but maybe more like Beast Wars?)
Huarache, what should Echo's status be? Damaged, lost, transported with the group. This is basically a mini-reset as we intro new players, so take your pick.
Barrill, if you want to just keep heading straight, you'll cone to the stairs that lead to that same road and you can follow it to tien as well, though it's up to you.
If Etrigzn is trying to overthrow the temple for his patron, perhapshis patron should tell him the following in the night:>
"The Infernal forces have begun to falter in this region. The inhabitants of this place are so accustomed to the hegemony of evil, they will welcome the rule of tanar'ri. Act now, before the Baatezu regain their flaccid grip on this place. Return to the Temple and desecrate it into extinction!"
<or, if you want to go to the Tomb of Horrors, which I'm also fine with, maybe Etrigsn hears this:>
"The devil Moloch has been robbed of his glory. Now a new force grows strong here. A servant of Vecna with fiendish blood has a powerful Baatezu in his command. Go seek him out and eradicate him, lest he pose some further obstacles to my domination of this land!"
Not being sure of how long he has been out of commission, Barril will stealthfully exit, hoping that his team made it out okay. He will be looking for signs of them on his way out, and plan on retracing his steps. Why does this seem so unfamiliar? He thinks to himself. Maybe that knock to the head was more serious than he thought.

There are more parts of the Infernal Machine in both locations. The tomb had not been explored at all and several remain within the Temple.
