Everyone still standing g can post, but mind you 1. If initiative has PCs first, unless something disrupts the wall of fire, the dog and ranger would still be inside and 2. The dog and ranger are within 4ft of the wall of fire once they exit the opaque magical barrier.. of these factors are relevant to your actions, I suggest using an if/then ro cover either possibility. As this effects both ranged and melee attacks, it's likely to come up.
So since we can use if/then, wouldn´t it just be easier to start off with the initiative roll?
(OOC: Ok it would seem like only Leann and Etrigan is standing. We would have trouble getting the bodies of Huarache, Echo, Sam and Cormac (if he´s still around?) with us I guess. I think we need acid or perhaps some way to cut the wires to that backpack to take care of the ranger. Does Leann have any thoughts on this? I have no other ideas myself I´m afraid.)
You may have a point about the initiative roll at the top of the round. I agree it is easier, worh the trade off being the excitement. If/thens might negate it, though as you point out. I'll think about it.
And, yes, to kill thus guy would require onr to negate his healing ability by some means. Itz like a force of nature. You can dam a river ro cross it, or you could just build a boat if the point is just to get over it. Nobody's mission here is killing the whole dungeon, though it's certainly your prerogative to try, and it is by no means impossible, but this guy is by no means the worst thing in here.
(OOC: Ok, but since several of us are down we would have a hard time backing out of this fight without leaving anyone behind. Etrigan wouldn´t really have a problem with that but his player does. Just hoping Leann had some bright idea.)

leann checks... Leann Athletics to keep from being grappled... 11 If grappled there is no need for that second check, as she is moved unless she breaks free as her own action, so not until her turn. Str save vs the hound is not for Leann to make, but the hydra-thing,, as it is the one grappling Leann. The hound would have to pull Leann away from the Hydra to force her prone. Dex save vs acid: 22 Dex save vs fireball: 26 Dex save vs firewall: 26
Tell me what sort of damage she is looking at from the above...

I'll go back and check dmg, but the second check is actually to pin leann via the grappler feat, inducing the restrained condition for DA vs. Wall of fire, canceled by the yuan-ti trait, so neutral roll. Also, her attacks are at DA.
This feels like it reinforces Oberon99's point that it would be easier if we knew initiative at the top of the round. Happy to hear others' thoughts, but I'm just going to make the switch per the suggestion.

I mentioned ooc at one point that the warden expected the lot of you to end up prisoners. That doesn't ha e to happen, but it is true that the progression is imprisonment, then experimentation, then either servitude or sacrifice, bit plenty of chances to escape before then. On that note, I like d of expected someone to try and save Big Gadai. Maybe I just painted her fate in too certain terms. She did have a giant stone bra,jer land on her.

Grappler feat? The thessalhydra doesn't have the grappler feat... Is it something you are now changing on this monster? I thought we were running them straight out of the book. Really confused now.
Yes, I am changing the monsters. It just made sense - he routinely captures intruders that don't just run away when they see him (that's from the module) and his pincers already grapple. The fact that a level 4 halfling with the feat could potentially pin it but not vice versa seems wrong, so I just applied feat mechanics to it.
I have been changing monsters for some time; also using homebrew monsters like the shocker lizard from 3.5. Recently I cited that the hellhound Sadie was the version described in Monster Manual Expanded by Dragonix, but that it retained the fiend type in addition to the beast type. I sometimes modify mechanics too, like allowing magical functions to work inside an antimagic field because I thought it was more fun than just forcing a series of jump checks, although a simple grapping hook or rope and arrow would have probably worked just as well. My main goal is to keep things interesting and right now we're on round 6 of the 4th fight in the foyer of a dungeon, so it seems like something could motivate exploring the interior rooms a bit more, and hints and quest aids have failed to bear fruit thus far. I thought about changing the cape from rust monster antennae to zorbo fur, but that seemed like too much, so I went with grappling Thessalhydra. This is the other side of the coin in Monty Haul campaigns - better rewards, tougher challenges.
Sidenote: this (yes, this post #3396) should be a sidenote. We have more or less abandoned the OOC Thread and now the main lane is getting clogged. That's my fault, but lets start using it again for out of character posts.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Whatever then. Make sure you have the thessalhydra take fire damage from the firewall then, as, if they are holding Leann down in it, then they are in it as well. Pinning someone would require that. They are also restrained, so would have disadvantage on that save as well.
Leann second athletics check: 12 Leann's cloak save: 8
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
It's died twice today, it's almost certainly going to die at least twice more.
The thessalhydra grabs Leann with one of its heads, holding her in the heat of the wall of flame. The ranger sweeps his cloak over Leann, her holstered, second (nonmagical) shield takes a permanent -1 to AC!
The head holding Leann in the flame begins to sizzle and char as its eyes stare relentlessly at the paladin, its acrid breath steaming in the heat. (TH takes 27 fire damage.)
Etrigan kills the ranger’s dog with eldritch magic. Barabatos, seeing her fall, wails: "Bwaaaaahhhh! I'll see you in the Nine Hells, my sweet fiend! And you as well!" he huffs, pointing his bone sword at Etrigan, advanicng toward him.
<We got any death saves or actions from the others? Huarache? Cormac?>
Sam runs up and slashes at the Thessalhydra with his flame-tongue scimitar for 76 slashing and 5 fire damage.
(OOC: Well Cormac has removed their character from the campaign so I guess they dropped out. Also, you do as you want, but I think Sam would be out by now considering he has been standing in melee for quite a few rounds within the barrage of fire breaths, fire balls and walls of fire and all.)
Still need to know the total damage for Leann, best make it per source, as she might be able to cut down some of it with other options. Can't really post actions until that is done, as she might actually be down.
Sam's been on vacation, he just got back, though. I said he could act this round if he wants. I didn't have him do anything until this round in his absence, so I'm not damaging his character in absentia.
Didn't hear anything from Cormac, but it does seem like he's gone. I'll message him before I consider contacting any backups.

<Leann only takes damage from the fire wall. I thought the original roll was with advantage (I can't see within rolls on mobile) so I was waiting for a straight roll for being restrained. That's it, though. It's 19 Fire damage or half on save. DC 17>
Ranger Con saves vs. Sam's attack 13
The wall of fire continues to blaze as the ranger pursues the figure who blasted his hound with eldritch magic, as the searing wounds dealt by the lizardman seal shut

(Leann only takes 4 damage then, as she has resistance to the damage of spells, and she saved for half.) As the ranger moves away from her, Leann takes an attack of opportunity, if it is available, if not ignore this... Attack: 17 Damage: 7
She then castsmisty step She will appear right behind the ranger, wherever he ends up. She will strike twice at his backpack... Attack: 22 Damage: 6
Attack: 26 Damage: 12

So since we can use if/then, wouldn´t it just be easier to start off with the initiative roll?
Etrigan peeks out of the map room, waits until Sadie III emerges from behind the wall of fire and unleashes another two blasts at her.
Eldritch blast:14 Damage:13
Eldritch blast:13 Damage:11
And moves back to full cover.
