Etrigan/Barbatos quickly leaves Thessalars chamber, and adresses the shamans in draconic holding up the gem/button. "Thessalar wants me to collect the rest of the gems. Where are they now?"
(OOC: So we have 4 gems and need to find another 3 right? Go ahead and message Etrigan if you have other thoughts on how to do this :-)
Tetrevess telepathically tells Etrigan he is doing a good job and that he feels we can’t take this wizard , even by surprise. He agrees with the plan. Outwardly, he grunts and looks stupid, while scanning the room for interesting magical items..
A miniaturized human lies in apparent stasis in a windowed glass case.
Exiting Thesellar's sanctum, (southeast corner) you re-enter the large L-shaped room and see things that were obscure or perhaps not present when you entered from the North end of the room:
In this west wing of the lab, two owlbears are chained to the floor, connected by silver wires to a third creature that appears to be a two-headed owlbear. More silver wire connects their restraints to a complex control panel standing between them. The control panel is covered with dials, switches, and buttons—including a light-purple button recognizable as one of the missing components of the Infernal Machine.
(This is the same room that has Four lizardfolk shamans work here as lab managers, overseeing two lizardfolk renders and the orange button, just the other end of it)
<Just a reminder, you've got Logan with you, I just don't DMPC him. I'm picturing him as disguised in the form of a Lizardfolk, but if you'd rather he was something else, make it so.>
(OOC: Yes, although haven´t seen the use of Logan in this visit just yet. The party now consists of Etrigan/Barbatos leading followed by Huarache and Barril, acting as prisoners for now, followed by Tetrevess and Logan looking like two lizard folk guards. Still don´t know about Sam though. Etrigan/Barbatos asked the Shamans a question in post #3586.)
<OoC: I thought it was superseded by the plain sight of another one of the missing pieces in the room in which you're standing.>
After a few moments of inscrutable reptilian staring, one raises a hand and slowly extends a finger toward the console featuring the prominent purple button.
This is also the direction one would travel to proceed deeper into the uncharted reaches of the dungeon.
Now away from the other lizardfolk folk “look I’m trying to save my kin that are here however thesslar knows about us being from the future” telling the tibax “however if we take Logan to him then get some plans we can secure not only are success and possible stop this place being completed”
"I think I already told them we need it." Etrigan/Barbatos messages Tetrevess. (post #3586 :-) Etrigan/Barbatos nods to the shamans, takes the light-purple button/gem and puts it together with the other one inside his portable hole. He then moves to the next door and peers into the chamber beyond. (The room to the south)
(OOC: Yes but we are still looking for 2 more after this one right, so the question would still have been relevant I think. Am I right in thinking Huarache has the eyes of Moloch as well as the first three buttons/gems? I guess Sam is talking to Huarache btw?)

Removing this component deactivates the controls and releases the restraints on the tables, freeing all the creatures in this area.
Seeing the chaos erupting behind him Etrigan slips into the next room, presumably accompanied by the others. "That was unexpected." Etrigan/Barbatos mutters to himself quietly wondering why the Shamans didn´t object to him collecting the buttons/gems, or didn´t they know their purpose.
(OOC: Still open to other suggestions, will keep going for now. :-)
<Ooc. They're scared of him. He's like the VP of the company, except his job description includes wrestling bears and he has a pet hellhound. Plus he just walked out if the CEO'S office 2 seconds beforehand. If I had to guess I'd assume they thought he knew something they didn't. In fact, the removal of the eyes from the statue stopped most of the magical properties of the sto es working in the experimental setups they'd been incorporated I to. That's why there was no saving throw to avoid damage when Etrigsn removed it. Why they were designed to release experime tax subject when removed is in itself a mystery, like if cutting the power T the zoo opened all the cages, but they did design it that way and I'm saying that's a physical property of the object like a quartz clock rather than a magical.one.>
As the characters approach this area, a foul stench begins to rise. When the door is opened, read:
The stench from the chamber beyond the door delivers a punch like an angered demigod. The floor slopes toward an open pit at its center, and is covered in a layer of waste, blood, and viscera.
<meta-knowledge. PVs might infer thr following (bracketed by %%)>
%The temple residents bring their refuse to this filthy chamber, including organic waste from the various laboratories. The foul debris here is ankle deep at the edges of the chamber, rising to knee deep closer to the center where the floor slopes toward the pit.%
Upon entering this area, a character must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or become poisoned for 1 hour.
Each character who moves across the floor must succeed on a DC 12 Dexterity check or fall prone at the end of their move. If the check fails by 5 or more, the character slides 5 feet closer to the pit. You enter from the south door of the other room, placing you 10ft from the put to start. The pit is 5 ft across. This, in effect, means 2 successive critical fails puts you in the hole.
"Oops, wrong room I guess. I don´t expect them to keep a gem in this place." Etrigan/Barbatos messages the others. Perception nonetheless with help from Grygaxx:16 Etrigan/Barbatos uses Ascendant step (levitate) to not step in the foul debris. Con save vs stench:21 "Should we stay here until the fight next door is over or should we join it?" Etrigan/Barbatos messages the others
<Across the floor means moving on the slanted surface, covered in the rotting slime tossed into the midden. It only applies to walking on the slopes floor.>
There's no machine parts here, the west and of the room actually has a concealed door that's pretty plain from the other side. The PCs already took the gem from that room. Given that they've seen the map, Sam and Huarache (who may or may not still be in the game ... seems on the fence) might surmise there is something on the other side.
Or Grygax's perception can extend to that wall at the far west end of the L-shaped room. He sees the rectangular outline of the concealed door in the west wall.
I'll also go ahead and say Grygax is aware of the Otyugh in the pit at the center of the room.

“Look at that little human in the glass case. Interesting. Love to get a closer look at that” he thinks to the group.
“Food?” He grunts in draconic at the case as they leave the room.
"Any suggestions on how to get to it? Perhaps you can sneak in unnoticed once we have collected the gems?" Etrigan/Barbatos messages Tetrevess.
“Yes maybe… let’s focus on the key mission for now..l Tetrevess responds.

Yes
Removing this component deactivates the controls and releases the restraints on the tables, freeing all the creatures in this area.
two owlbears are fueling the creation of a new creature—a two-headed owlbear nicknamed Bear-Bear.
Suddenly free of their bonds, the 3 or 4 owlbears (depending on how you count bear-bear) attack the four lizardfolk shaman!
The two nearby lizardfolk renders nearby rush to their aid.
Amid the chaos, the band of adventurers slip onto the next room. <Unless they don't want to, just Etrigan said he was peering in there>
<I'm not rolling this whole monster_x_monster battle unless I have a reason to.>

(DCs are only required if crossing the threshold, correct?)
Barril wrinkles his nose as the door is opened. He would not be inclined to enter voluntarily. He messages the others,
”Gods! What’s that smell?”
He will look at the faces of his compatriots, swallow hard, and slowly think the message,
”If the walls are not slippery, I can enter without touching the floor. But … gods, I don’t want to.”
He glances down at his slippers and shudders to think what would become of them if they were fouled.
”Can someone provide Bless or Guidance to keep me from getting sick?”

Barril forgetfully thinks to himself (not remembering everyone can “hear” him),
”Slaying that beast might reward us with accumulated treasures that most would be to afraid to plunder.”
Suddenly he recalls that his thoughts are not his own. He follows that thought with,
”Oh, sorry. I know it’s not part of our mission. But the thought is intriguing.”
