So, I will do just that... Huarache's keen eye notices a faded rune subtly carved into a stone about 7ft above the ground, just above where the front outline of a door can be seen. He recognizes the symbol as a common arcane symbol for 'fire' and the word involuntarily escapes his furry lips (so the while party gets the impression that FIRE is the answer)
(OOC: Yes I am trying to get out but it seems very hard. I don´t understand what you are saying. Are there two secret doors in the L-shaped laboratory? Didn´t we already find them with the perception roll a while back? (post #3603) Etrigan has let everybody out of the portable hole, stated that numerous times. How does the portable hole come into play opening the secret door or what do you mean about that help action? Any chance that you just could go on and give us a map with numbered locations where we can see the secret/concealed doors you are talking about?)
1 secret door. West wall of L shaped room. Located by Grygaxx, being opened by a different check; It won't just have a doorknob.
To that end, Barril manages to locate a latch mechanism within the hidden seam of the door, pry it out of its locked position and pop the door ajar, which Etrigan pushes open to revea a room familiar to some.
This laboratory space is filled with worktables holding tubing, glassware, and all manner of alchemical experiments. All the various experiments are connected by silver wires to a complex control panel. This was once the location of the hazy yellow stone the party collected earlier.
< may have missed the statement that the hole was reopened. I only called out a mechanic that explicit in raw so I could let people know they should assume they have advantage. That's all.>
Map...
Blue route = where Etrigan has been, circled: statue of Moloch at start. Double door = dimension door cast
Red route = party movement since re-entry after tavern. Boxed-X: secret passage. You're now in room 22
As the secret door closes behind Etrigan/Barbatos and the others he looks around the laboratory (22) and realizes that Hurarache and Sam already has searched this part of the Temple of Moloch. "I think I know where we should go to look for the last parts." Etrigan/Barbatos messages the others. "But first I will change into something more authoritarian." With that Etrigan/Barbatos swiftly transforms into a near perfect image of Thessalar. "Now let´s move on before someone get´s suspicious of our activities here." Etrigan/Thessalar messages the others before leaving the laboratory (22) taking the easiest route to the chamber that held the statue of Moloch (25) (via, I guess, 1 and 3).
(OOC: Great, thanks, this will be much easier I think :-) Three buttons/gems left to find right? I suppose Sam is with us as a third lizardfolk guard?)
Huarache looks in the pouches on the inside of his shield and pulls out a small amount of potassium chlorate and some sugar, throwing them together at the rune he saw (flavorful Prestidigitation). I say that there are pouches on the inside of his shield as a rationalization for a quirk of rules regarding spellcasting foci and somatic components.
Within the wall,, an unseen mechanism moves in response to the spark of flame Huarache sets upon the stone. It would open the door if it weren't already open.
<I think the party has found:
Area 9. One component, speckled goldArea 14. One component, cloudy orangeArea Area 16. One component, light purple. That would leave three more.>
The party moves through the torture chamber... <if you do t want to look in any rooms you've already seen, we can just skip to 25. I'll describe it and if u want to see any other room numbers you might pass on the way (your choice of route) we can go back and check that out. Otherwise.. a place Etrigan has seen...>
You emerge from the narrow passage beyond the destroyed wooden dais, crumbled in the room where you left the eyeless statue. (It remains laying in ruin).
25. Main Temple
The north end of this vaulted chamber was entirely filled by the temple’s famed statue of Moloch. The impressive figure rose twenty-five feet high, nearly touching the ceiling. Its hands held a massive burning brazier, illuminating the chamber with an eerie flickering glow. The brazier’s fire reflected brightly within the facets of the statue’s massive ruby eyes.
Now, there is an outline on the wall where the statue once stood. The brazier lays overturned on the floor before the shallow depression in the floor where the statue once stood.
In the east wall, a narrow corridor leads to a tiny chapel room where the temple’s first high priest communed with Moloch.
A large tapestry depicting Moloch hangs on the East wall.
Additional open passages lead south and west, respectively.
“Lead on, Etrigan- you are doing well so far. “ thinks Tetrevess at the group. “I would not mind some more exploring in here if there is anything else worth picking up”.
Tetrevesses notices through a door they pass en route
7. Storage Area
This is a general storage area for the temple, holding crates, sacks, and barrels filled with typical goods in support of temple operations (foodstuffs, cloth, oil, tools, and so forth).
Characters who search this area thoroughly might make an unusual discovery with a successful DC 14 Intelligence (Investigation) check, allowing one check per character.
"Yes Tetrevess, we can certainly do some exploring, although I got the impression earlier that Hurarache and Sam already explored these areas."Etrigan/Thessalar messages the others as he joins Tetrevess in thoroughly searching the storage area (7). Investigation with help from Grygaxx:21
“Let me help search the room. The more eyes the better, as it were. And besides, the longer we linger, the more chance of an unhappy encounter.” Barril adds.
Investigation: 22

Etrigan finds a small book, colorfully illustrated and offering a variety of rumors and advice regarding monsters and dungeons, information on various items of specialized adventuring gear, and short pieces of fiction.
Barril uncovers a sack holds a common magic item and 3 potions. <all of your choice, but I reserve the right to deny some potions. Can't think of any I would at the moment, but let me know what you pick.>
"Ooh, interesting." Etrigan/Thessalar says to himself holding the book he just found before tucking it away in the portable hole. "Now let´s get moving before anyone gets suspicious." He messages the others and continues to the main temple.
When he reaches the main temple (25) he starts searching again assisted by Grygaxx:23 particularly for the last parts/buttons/gems.
(OOC: Others like Tetrevess can search retroactively i presume. You take the potions Barril I think, and decide what kind they are :-)
(Anyone have suggestions on the common magic item and 3 potions? Here’s where I’m leaning: 3 vials of Thessaltoxin Antidote and a dark-shard-amulet for our warlock or a wizard’s hat for our wizard. But I am up for suggestions.)
<Every PC can get 1 check for the chance of finding an item in room 7>
Etrigan notices a faint movement of rhe tapestry on the East wall. Readying himself for a potential threat, he gradually realizes it is onlt a draft, gently moving the large woven pictorial of Moloch, standing tall, pale-green scourge (6-tailed whip) in hand amid a barren landscape of crags marked with veins of lava beneath an ash-gret sky.
"There is a hidden passage behind the tapestry," he surmises.
"There is a hidden passage behind that tapestry." Etrigan/Thessalar messages the others. "Perhaps it will take us to the last buttons." Unless there seemed to anything else in the main temple (25) to investigate Etrigan/Thessalar then enters the hidden passage.
(OOC: Can you expand the map now? Thanks but no thanks to the dark-shard-amulet PlotArmored. Make it a Wizard hat for Tetrevess :-)
You can describe bearing by letter for simplicity. Crossed out areas have no description so they're just there. You just passed 26 without checking it.
edit: 34 is just an empty guardroom. You killed these guards when they chased you and the Moloch statue.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
29 investigation
(OOC sorry I’m traveling this week and offline a lot- should we check 26 to be thorough?). Tetrevess passive investigation is a 20. I tried to post a roll earlier but I think it didn’t go through (was in the mountains today)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After quickly searching the guardroom (34) with help from Grygaxx:26 Etrigan/Thessalar continues taking lefts (taking him to corridor A). "This temple seems to be larger than I expected." He messages the others. "Stay in character and keep a good lookout for those buttons." He adds.
(Yes, well room 26 wasn´t visible on the last map. If we just go on searching this part of the temple clockwise I guess we will come back to 26 right before heading back through the secret passage. If it´s ok with everyone let´s go on with the searching clockwise starting with corridor A. Hope you´re having a good vacation Tesservett :-)
