OOC: I'm confused. Why are we rolling initiative, and who is rolling survival? Also I'm sorry for not being as active.
Yaren can select the navigator for this leg of the trip. That was the point of initiative. It can be anyone, and ultimately you can choose the route. Just pick a nearby destination roughly a tenday or less
“A navigator is an important choice, but there are many who are capable. You’ll do fine. But choose. Don’t worry about money. Get the navigator, we’ll take care of the money once you’ve chosen.” Vernell gives a nod to Yaren
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
thought we might mix things up by reducing metagaming and allowing characters with suboptimal stats to try their hand at things like navigating. Thanks for bearing with me as I try to balance player agency with game flow in this hex crawl. If someone wants to navigate a different route, just declare it. Otherwise I'm using the highest Survival in the party (+6) and going from there. The plan as initially laid out begins with an 11 mile leg from the western bank of river Tirykl to the coast North of Kitcher's inlet. Lets see how it goes.
{I'm including the guide in your group, you can decide who it is later, just let me know. It's the first one anybody names. As a reminder they were Eku, Qawasha+Kupalue, Azaka Stormfang, and River+Flask}

As you head out of the city gate, you find yourself on the east bank of the river. The smell from the dinosaur pens at the Tiryki anchorage fading as walk along the river, which you notice narrows ahead as the riverbanks narrow and the jungle presses in. Ctenmiir calls out from his coffin, "So, South then? Unless you just want to turn back now." he scoffs. Continuing, "That river is full of small waterfalls, and it flows to the port from the south, which means you're going to have to take your boat out of the water every couple of miles if you take that route. Best to just cross it now." He shakes his head within the box, "Of course, you'll have to leave me here, but I'm sure you'll be fine without me."
As Ctenmiir speaks, trying to avoid getting trapped with a gaggle of undead explorers who control the movement of his confinement, an unseen spirit shyly peeks out from a rock near the water. Dark, and no more than a foot tall, with wild hair surrounding it's masked face, painted to resemble as snake's, it creeps along the ground, stretching it's long, slender limbs to advance toward Vernell's pack. A local would recognize the elemental spirit as a Chwinga. Right on top of his belongings, it finds the device the Cartophile gave you to control Ctenmiir's coffin, replacing it with something. Finished with it's task, it bolts for the river, drawing attention as it splashes into the water, the shining blue light of the control device glowing as it heads upriver just below the surface. As it departs, the coffin begins to move. The legs turn and start to follow the creature, right into the river. "What!? Where are we going?..." His voice trails off as the coffin walks quickly but at a seemingly leisurely pace, into the water behind the faint blue light.
"Go get that thing, Echo," yells Huarache, "I'll be right behind you."A silver blur streaks past from behind the party, and those who would be able to see it move past would recognize it as a metal greyhound, chasing the Chwinga as though it was a rabbit. (OOC: Meet Huarache's Steel Defender, Echo.) Huarache follows, not quite as quickly but still fast.
"Ooh, don't do that!" Dorian scolds. He casts Levitate on the coffin, lifting it up in the air out of the river, its legs still paddling as if it were walking.
Somewhere upriver, you follow the blue light. As Dorian performs the spell, the blue light continues to fade away upriver, but after a moment, the metal-legged coffin breaks the surface and continues to rise over the water. From with, Ctenmiir roars: "...incompetent tunnel worms! If you wanted to get to the other side of the river, you could have used a canoe."
The string of profanities continues as Dorian lowers it on the far side of the river. The legs, however, keep moving the coffin southward along the East bank of the river.
Ooc: I may occasionally push non-combat actions in this way. If you wanted to do something different, pm me and I'll change it if we haven't already moved on.
Dorian is keeping Ctenmiir in the air until we've recovered the control mechanism, so that he doesn't walk off. The spell also only allows for up/down movement, not side to side, someone has to push or pull it for that.
"One problem solved, but let's get the other one!"puffs Huarache, still chasing the elemental. (OOC: When do he and Echo reach it?)
It's got a swim speed of 20 ft. If you started chasing it when you saw it get in the water it had a 20ft lead on you. The jungle starts to press on after 40ft, becoming difficult terrain. If you waited for Ctenmiir to get in the water, it's 40ft away to start. Assuming you use the dash action you can make it 60ft in a round, so you can make it to the dense jungle with movement to spare and the same swimspeed as the Chwinga who you have caught up to.
You see Yaren(who has caught up with the rest of the party) say "LISTEN TO ME." as he casts Suggestion on the Chwinga(WIS 15 save). His eyes turn completely black, and the crystal ball that he is holding starts to become enveloped in shadowy mist. He then says to the Chwinga: "You shall give us back the device that you have stolen from us, and never steal from us again."
The chwinga somehow seems to hear Yaren's words from under the rushing water, as it looks toward the source of the magically empowered words upon leaping from the river. When it sees Yaren, it tilts it's head, conveying curiosity despite the lack of facial expression.
(Chwinga speak no language and wouldn't be affected by suggestion)
Tell finds a wooden charm carved I to the shape of a lotus resting in the pack.

Ctenmiir floats in the air above the river, motionless, his coffin still appearing to air-walk quickly to the south, just above the water, which must be pretty deep here.
Tel shouts after the others: "They are curious creatures, try to offer it something it would have been unlikely to see here in the wilds and it may forsake its spoil."

Snakewarp212, you can also choose someone else to be the navigator.
"Assuming the terrain is mostly forested between here and our destination," says Shutorn, "might I suggest we let Samogri navigate?"
