If the Thieves' Tools wouldn't have been applicable, then replacing Thieves' Tools with Investigation would make the roll a 23. If I need to roll Investigation anew, then 22 is my total. Here's hoping.
EDIT: Well, that wasn't much different.
Ha. I think I was already editing the earlier post when this was posted. Ok it opens. Within the journal you find...
Plans for something resembling the sun sword seen in use by the guards at the gates of Port Nyanzaru. The design is somewhat archaic, requiring plasma exhaust vents at the hilt, but all of the parts required were present back at the garage.
The journal reveals what happened to Kwalish when he found the legendary city..
Think we are going to keep the crab legs extended since driving around in a mechanical crab is super cool.
"It is weird, huh," Omiy looks out the window and says to herself, "I wonder what are all these kenku doing here. They don't seem to be running like the others... " She tries to summon her echo outside of the apparatus, approach one of the kenku up close to observe, maybe poke at it.
Huarache will mentally file the plans for the sun sword (is it a sun blade or an elaborately etched sword with sun-themed details?), and he will continue reading the journal later, but now he's driving. "Until we see something particularly interesting, I suppose. If we don't find anything, I'd like to return to that workshop; there were some plans for an interesting sort of sword that I would like to create."
"Not sure, but hopefullymultiple,"he responds, turning to face Leann. "I know that there are parts for at least one if I don't bung it up. I imagine you'd be interested in one?"
As you crawl through the ancient city streets, you can see some of the statues have been augmented with mechanical armatures. On close inspection you can see the baubles have been mounted in place, not sculptured in crystal with the rest of the statues. As you approach the tallest tower to the southeast, red lights bwgin to glow within some od the statues Individual blobs of ooze congeal around 10 statue armatures as they erupt out of their staged scenes and attack.
There are actual mechanics for combat in the stat block. I think we'll just run it like we have been, rarher thsn a single pillt, you can just take turns as normal. Also note, combat is yiur choice and you can head back to thw garage at any time.
Huh, I'd say Omiy's echo is still roaming beside the apparatus. She sees the glass statues start swarming towards them, and she instinctively swings her sword from her echo, hacking at the closest one, diverting some of the attention away from the vehicle.
Attack: 15Damage:17
Attack: 25Damage:13
"Doesn't look like we are welcomed here," Omiy says, "time to turn around?"
"My vote would be for the garage as well." Leann speaks up. "I wouldn't mind one of those sun blades if there is enough parts to make one for me as well as others who want one."
The next ooze folk nearest to Omiy's echo attacks it.
Crystal sword: 5 for 7
Pseudopod: 16 for 8 acid
Ultimately the decison of what the crsft will do on this round should go to the plater with the highest initiative, then its back to ooze folk, then back to craft decision by next player and so on. Omiy's echo was a separate case being outside the vehicle.
edit: didn't add crit damage for pseudopod sknce the echo already dissipated.
“More reason to turn back, I guess. “ Hearing about undead nearby, Omiy comments. She sees her echo get shattered by ooze attack, and steps up to pull down lever 7 a couple times, turning the apparatus around.
The crab swings around to the right and scuttles back to the garage. The glass statues pursue the craft, but they cannot keep up and soon you have lost them. Once extricated from the ooze, moving lever 10 up causes the hatch to unlock and open.
You are now in the garage. the travel time was about one hour, leaving the supply of air in the vehicle nearly exhausted. A compress inside the vehicle begins running, refilling the air supply as a needle begins to slowly rise. Watching the needle briefly suggests it will take an hour or so to refill completely.
"Something to keep in mind I guess..." Leann says as she eyes the needle. "Best keep our travels in this to short trips, as we wouldn't want to run out of air while down there..."

Seeing the faces of the figures, Sigurd says:
"I think these people were alive at one time, it looks like something did this to them! Look at the faces...."
OOC: Would Sigurd have any idea what could do this?

"So where are we headed?" Leann asks as the drivers steer the thing along. "Do we have a destination in mind?"

"Do we want to just go back now?" Leann asks. "And how many of these swords can you make do you think?"
"Not sure, but hopefully multiple," he responds, turning to face Leann. "I know that there are parts for at least one if I don't bung it up. I imagine you'd be interested in one?"

If I didn't drop this earlier, you're riding in an apparatus of kwalish

Just noticed Sam's primeval awareness (lots of rapid posting. I like it) He would sense undead nearby.
Omiy's echo, unaffected by the viscous ooze, cracks the crystal surface on the first strike, shattering the statue with the second.
The next ooze folk nearest to Omiy's echo attacks it.

You don't see any Tabaxi statues.
Sam will relay this information to the party
Stabby will stick to the inside of the vehicle for the most part, not wanting to fight the strange ooze things unless it becomes necessary.

Huarache pulls out his tools, cracks his knuckles, and starts looking for parts.
