The creature begins to glow pink as you agree to "help" Randrak and somehow you can feel its gratitude.
Mercwri, looking up you see the aforementioned ledge above the pool you are currently still paddling in. It looks large enough to hold two or three of you maybe and can be access by scaling the wall at the back of the cavern. (DC 10 Acrobatics). As you watch the creature bobbing in the air above you the name flumph springs to mind. You have heard of creatures like this living in the Logduz mines south of Baldenvelt, though this is the first time you have seen one. You remember they are telepathic and very dangerous when angered. The mouther also brings back memories of tales told around the tavern fire. Gibbering masses of flesh with the ability to drive others to madness with the sound of its foul voice.
Uldran the creature grows an even brighter pink at your words and floats closer to you for a moment and then with another sound that can only be described as a "flumph!" it darts away into the darkness of the northern passageway.
Randrak lets feeling of the creature's gratitude wash over him. Satisfied that creature seems to be friendly enough, he relaxes his pose.
"Okay," he says turning to the others. "This big thing seems to be friendly enough. I say we help it. We're already in here to finish off the rest of those troglodytes for those villagers. We might as well help this guy out, and at the same time we will be further helping out the villagers.
Whose with me?"

“The secret we should never let the gamemasters know is that they don't need any rules.” ― Gary Gygax
„We can not leave the villagers here, when there is a - a thing like that around. These troglodytes would just come after them again to - to feed them to this abomination.“
Alanis visibly shudders.
“I will not claim that I am not scared out of my mind, but... I‘ll help if I can at all.“
"Alright, let's have a plan, try to stay away from that thing. Maybe set up a line of defense and let those that can hit if at range try to wear it down?"
"There is that ledge the old dawarf spoke of," Mercwri points up at it. "Let me do a look see down that tunnel and then we will have a better idea of what awaits us." He heads toward the ledge, "This will take a small bit of time as I am not going to be in a rush. In fact, I am going to take it very slow. I don't wish to be noticed nor give notice that we are here."
Unless anyone objects he'll climb up to the ledge, any help with that is gratefully appreciated, and proceed down the tunnel with an extra amount of caution, carefully, deliberately, with stealth aforethought.
In preparation, Mercwri will take some of the wax from one candle and, warming it by kneading it, will form two plugs that fit in his ears - for use as or if he gets close to the Gibbering Mouth.

Mercwri you sneak northward until you reach a wide three way junction. The chamber to the north west appears to be some kind of storage area filled with crates and as far as you can tell the second chamber to the north is empty. The main passage snakes off toward the east and you can make out the beginnings of a minecart track. You can hear the now familiar growls of Troglodytes in that direction.
Mercwri you make it around the corner and from the shadows you watch five troglodytes wandering around a large open area. There are passages leading off to the north, east and west, but seemingly no way of getting to them without going through the beasts.

Randrak watches as Mercwri disappears from sight. It really did not seem like much he could have done to have prevented Mercwri from going on this little stealth mission. Though he felt a little uneasy about seeing a comrade enter into the unknown by himself.

Mercrwi you lose track of time as you watch the Troglodytes milling around the cavern. They mostly seem to be coming in and out of the far eastern tunnel and you see several carrying large sacks over their shoulders that squirm as they are jostled.
The rest of you stand in the first cave dripping wet and cold. The gnome as been gone for a long time now.
Mercwri comes out of what seems to be a weird hypnotic state, wondering if the gibbering thing was able to influence him. Realizing that the 'squirming' bags were 'people' he careefully backs away to where he can safely head back to the others.
"There are at least 5 trogs in a larger cavern up ahead. It has 3 tunnels leading out from it that I could see and the trogs seem to be using the eastern one the most; that's almost straight ahead of where the tunnel I was in. The other two are to the left and right. Do we have any area of effect spells? Try and take out a space 30 feet by 30 feet? I have some of these, but they wont cover such a big area unless we threw 3 or 4 at the same time." He holds out a small brass sphere, "When the hit they go 'bang', pretty loud so we would definitely lose any element of surprise after they go off. Anybody got any other ideas?" He looks at the others. "Here let me sketch what I saw," he will quickly sketch the cavern with the thee tunnels.

Hitticus your sudden bravado is rewarded with the most ignoble of accidents as you lose your footing on the wet rocks and fall flat on your face with a loud thud. The air is driven from your lungs for a moment and you spit damp moss out onto the ground, the only real damage however is to your pride.
Oh my dear boy!
As you scramble to your feet Mercwri comes back around the corner to deliver his report.
Uldran feels some tension leave his body as he sees Mercwri enter their space once again. "I do have limited magic and can hit many of the creatures if they are close together. It would only be worth it if we got them to cluster in a tight knot. I can also cause the water in the air to become fog, that way we can obscure the hallway that any reinforcements would come from."
Randrak shrugs his shoulders, "I possess no magic, which probably doesn't come as a surprise to any of you. I can always try and draw their attention to me if I have someone in flank. Though I am not sure what that other thing can do. Does anyone know what it does?"

"Found the gnome" he says in an attempt at humor.
"I don't have anything like that, but I can make it hard to target someone if we need to set a trap."
