Grockle thinks for a moment, before trying to explain. “The sunken tunnels they emerge into a pool. Above the pool is a ledge you could climb to should you have a mind to stay out of reach and at the far end of the chamber is the other way out, a narrow tunnel leading into the mines. As to luring beasts and collapsing tunnels, well you’d know best what you are about. I barely got out of there with my life and would not have that much if not for you good people.”
”Grockle!” Master Fredrock runs up to greet the Dwarf warmly. “We thought you lost.”
”Most of us are.” Grockle replies, “The beasts have made the mines their home.”
"Do ye havean estimate of their numbers Master Grockle? Are they such that some few determined individuals could rid you of them?" Mercwri sounds determined to cleanse the place of the troglodytes. "And if we could entice them into that place and collapse the tunnel, do you think they'd suffocate?"

"Well, if the mines are extensive it may be that we won't need to fight them all at once. I assume that the town needs the mine and collapsing tunnels would not be to their benefit."
Alanis uses the time to put her armor back on. Certainly didn’t help with the sneaking to take it off, and clearly the day is far from over.
Being inexperienced in the field of battle tactics she listens attentively to the conversation and finally takes a piece of paper out of her bag to take some notes.
“Say, does a map of the mines exist? Or could you help us draw an improvised one, so that we can get a feel for the place?“
Grockle confirms the numbers at around twenty, Mercwri and at the mention of trapping them and collapsing a tunnel he laughs and shrugs, "Ye can certainly try lad, though your friend over there is quite right, it'd be a fair thing to have some mine left to speak of at the end of all this."
Grockle takes the parchment and considers it for a moment before handing it back. "Ahm not one for maps missy, best I can do is show you the way up there. Now the question is are ye going in through the side or the front?"
OOC: We will consider a short rest is had as we wait and talk.
Uldran considers Grockle's question with a frown, "well, we are not really the sneaky sort as we proved earlier. But, we are also outnumbered 4 or 5 to 1. I'm up for trying the side tunnel though I'm not opposed to going in the front if others think its best."
Grockle listens to the conversation before speaking, “Well if it’s to be the side entrance we best be off. That is unless you have any business here in the village before we leave?”
As you have been talking, more and more of the villagers have started to return. Some are moving the bodies, others are checking on their ransacked homes. A small group of grateful dwarves is clustered nearby offering thanks and showering you all with beaming smiles. You get the feeling that if you remain here much longer there will be hugging.
OOC: if anyone still wants to argue for the front entrance you can do so on the way 😀
"Well, the plan still worked didn't it?" asks Randrak. "Or am I missing the part where we lost?"
"For Moradin's sake Randrak. Every comment isn't about you." Uldran wanders off to talk briefly with the villagers. Letting them know that we are going to clear the mines but the area is not safe yet. "Stick close to your homes and don't let the little ones (if there are any) out of your sight until we return."
"Well, I guess there's nothing for it but to go in and exterminate the buggers," Mercwri says determinedly. "It,s gonna be a bit rough in those tunnels sure, but I think we can do it. What I propose is going in slow, findin' a few and trying to draw them away from any others, maybe even draw 'em all the way out here, then dispatch them."

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Grockle leads you all to the mines. You get a clear view of the front entrance as you approach and all seems quiet without, though you do spy several bodies; both Troglodyte and Dwarf, strewn upon the ground.
"We fought em as best we could." the old miner grumbles as he leads you around to the left of the main entrance.
You begin to clamber over rocks and small boulders as you move forward and eventually Grockles starts to work his way over to the right where you can see a small cave entrance leading into the nearby rockface. As you get closer you can see that it is completely flooded and dark waters lap against the stone at the entrance.
“How far will we have to swim before we get into the dry parts of the mine?” Mercwri looks as uncomfortable as Hitticus. “I am not a very good swimmer by any stretch of the imagination. I don’t suppose one of us can make the water disappear?”

Randrak is surprised to see Hitticus to just appear out of nowhere. "Well, that will serve you for disappearing and reappearing. It's not natural, however, you are doing that."

"what do you know of natural? Dwarven culture is nothing but the cutting and shaping of nature to bend it to your will, I would argue that my magics come from a more natural place than your bigotry"
Grockle chuckles at your words Hitticus before answering your question Mercwri,
"Far as I know lad its a swim of around forty feet straight in before you reach the pool. Cant say that everything is as it was since the tunnel flooded though."
"I've never been very fond of swimming," Randrak grumbles under his breath
