Randrak you charge into the nearest hobgoblin with a hellish fury. Your first strike opens up its gut spilling blood and gore at your feet. As it doubles over to clutch the gaping wound you rip through its throat with your second attack dropping it to the ground dead.
Mercrwi your shot is on point and would have taken the creatures life. However, as the bolt is about to strike goblin utters an incantation and cast shield. Your bolt explodes in a shower of sparks.
Racing forward Uldran snatches up the dragon egg drawing an attack of opportunity from the remaining hobgoblin. Attack: 14 Damage: 3
The goblin snarls at you Mercwri as it casts firebolt Attack: 13 Damage: 9
Hitticus you are getting a feel for this blade now, it is of a fine make and you recognise its superior craftsmanship. (+1 short sword). You slash into the hobgoblin once, then twice; just as you Alanis throw your vial into the creatures face. The flames however are not needed as the hobgoblin topples back dead.
Dvori you fire your bolt and the goblin flinches out of the way just in time. Reggarn and Randrak you manoeuvre yourselves in front of Uldran who stands holding the egg. You note a look of concern on the druids face and as you get closer you feel a strange pressure on your minds, like you are not alone inside your own head. Randrak you find this feeling familiar. Your mind is drawn back to the belly of the stoneship where you save the red dragon egg from the Drow assassin.
Mercwri, your dagger slips between the goblins ribs and it twists away in surprise and pain; narrowly missing your second strike. A look of panic fills its eyes as it clutches the bleeding wound.
Safely behind Randrak and Reggarn you all hear Uldran speaking softly to the egg. A soft sibilant voice whispers then into all of your minds. It sounds frail and panicked but the words are alien. (Does anyone speak Draconic?)
Holding up its hand the goblin turns and casts magic missile at you Mercwri 4, 5, 3
In Draconic : "Sons and of stone, daughter of earth; protect me. Bring me to safety. Accept my blessing."
Hitticus you slice into the goblin brining it to its knees as you Alanis send a final bolt of fire into the side of its head reducing it to a smouldering ruin. The goblin falls dead to the ground.
Uldran drops to his knees with a cry as a green glow surrounds the egg he is carrying. Bright sparks fly from its surface followed by an arc of eldritch power that strikes you all, infusing you with its light. Waves of energy blast out from the egg passing through you all and you feel the presence of the lifeforce within. For some of you this is all too familiar, for others it is new and exhilarating. You all stay frozen to the spot for what seems like hours but can only be mere seconds. Then suddenly it is over.
"You realize that you are catching on to the secret of success. It's just a matter of concentration."

Also for taking me up in my offer of explosives back in the flumph tunnels. I was keen to see what you would do with those boom sticks!! Deliver the letter you still have from Mender when you get back to Duragath and you will receive your reward :)
Reggarn, seeing all the carnage, turns to the others while ignoring the voice in his head for now. "I offered them peace and they were about to leave yet you attacked them. They were willing to take the peaceful route and you let fear dictate your actions. This is unbelievable. I expected better from the dwarven kind. Mr. Uldran, what do you plan to do with that egg? I will tell you right now that I will let no harm come to that innocent creature."
Angered by Reggarn's remarks Randrak storms over to him, "Innocent creature? Do you think those goblins were innocent? Do you fail to realise just what has happened here, or do your senses fail you as do your wits? Your Brothers and Sisters were slaughtered here to feed dragons, probably the very thing inside that egg. How can you offer them peace? How could you ever think that we would let them leave here to renew their butchering and their carnage?
That dragon might still be in its egg and I admit that for now, it is innocent. But how long will that last? It is a black dragon, the cruellest of all dragons. It won't be long until it starts eating dwarves and gnomes alike."

"I never called these goblins innocent. Those goblins were as innocent as you are. We are all covered in blood. We can never have peace if all we do is seek genocide. What happens when the goblins are gone? Do we turn on the gnomes? Death and peace are not the same things, yet it seems that many of you assume that they are. I wish to understand them and allow them to live their lives. If we butcher them needlessly we will never learn and be just as savage as you assume the goblins are."
"I'm okay leaving the goblins alive, just not the eggs. Evil creatures with evil legacies... I've heard tell that dragons actually inquiry inherit the memory of their parents. So this thing may not be innocent at all" Hitticus scratches his palm and begins scratching at his stubble of beard before he takes out a knife and starts shaving it off
