Grub looks between you, Reggarn and Randrak and shakes his head. "I not know. Grub not worried about other goblins, Grub worried about city full of Dwarves. I not know what makes the shiny fires burn."
Hitticus you concentrate and within a six mile radius you sense aberrations, elementals, and undead.
"If this doesnt seem like Goblins then I need you to stay close to me Grub. I have magics that can keep you safe but I need you close to me." Assuming Hitticus told us about sensing undead "I can keep undead at a distance but the other creatures might need a more forceful deterrent".
Hitticus will relay the information "Not sure exactly where, but we may need to account for them, mind flayers or the like would explain the disparate groups working together" Hitticus isn't happy that his abilities are lacking specifics, but at least he can check again in the city.
Hitticus give me an intelligence check against what you sensed.
You cover Grub as best as you are able and continue forward. Soon the West Gate comes into sight and you note immediately that it is heavily guarded by Dwarves. Reggarn you would know these to be Paladins of Moradin, interspersed with common temple guards. They ready weapons as you all approach.
"Ahoy on the gates," Mercri calls out. "We be returning from a task given us by the High Lords, but it seems now is a time of," he glances around at the tumult. "A time of turmoil and strife. We may be of assistance, we are slayers of goblins, drow, and orcs of all shapes and sizes and, not to be immodest, we bes pretty good at it." He grins and makes a sweeping bow. "I bes Mercwri Cyflym, at the service of yer High Lords!"

Unfortunately, Mercwri does a really bad job of allaying any particular concerns the guards might have regarding the party.
Mercwri your.... performance lol? Draws frowns from the guards who aim their crossbows at you with narrowed eyes. At the mention of the High Lord you see the dwarves visibly tense up and hear the sounds of blades being drawn.
Luckily the familiar face of Reggarn and the greeting on Randrak save you from injury.
“What traitorous business has the Lord had you tending?” One of the guards demands, causing his fellows to tense up once more as if remembering themselves. There is something seriously amiss here you realise and they guards have made no moves to let you through.
Hitticus you try to slink away, but given that you are standing on an open road in front of a dozen wary guards nothing short of vanishing would do the trick. You do manage to drop back and reach the side of the road before one of them shouts over.
”Oi! Clean cheeks, where you off to?”
(I’d have needed a Nat 20 for that one, close but no cigar.)
"High Shield Eldron has crowned himself king, betraying the oaths of his office. The palace now lies under siege and the Baldenvelt legions hold the city led by ambassador Kriell and bolstered by the faithful of Moradin."
The voice you hear is that of an old friend; as the cleric Torvin steps through the guards to greet you. "You can lower your weapons these are friends." he orders and the guards comply.
"You have returned to find civil war brewing my friends. Much has changed in the last few days."
"Brother Torvin, we have much to discuss. Might there be a more quite space to discuss these matters in?" Reggarn is very nervous to have Grub around so many pointy objects as well as a dragons egg.
Hitticus moves back with the group (what I would give for the camo ability) "I'll be honest, I was trying to find another way in. I personally don't care about your war and have some bigger picture things to worry about" He knows he isn't helping, but also knows they want to appear trustworthy
"Friend Hitticus there is but one way in to the city from this end, and that is part of our problem as our would be King holds the Kings Gate and the only other way in or out of the city bar the Burning Ocean."
He looks to you then Reggarn and nods, "I will escort you all to the Shield Hall where you can report to the Ambassador in person."
He gestures for the guards to make way and they let you all through. As you walk through the City you see the signs of battle everywhere. A number of the ruined buildings are still smouldering, with smoke pouring outward into the streets. Here and there you see carts stacked with bodies; some wearing the uniform of the High Lords legion and others of the Baldenvelt regulars and temple guards.
Is there anything you would like to do or say before arriving at the Shield Hall?
Randrak spins around and storms over to Grub. He brings his right hand to the chin of the goblin.
"Answer the questions, and be fast and be clear."

Since Alanis is wearing the magical cloak, she has her old one to spare for now.
She hands it to the goblin.
”Here Grub, put that on and pull up the hood. It’s better than nothing.”

"Brothers of Mordain, be at peace. It is I, brother reggarn. I and my companions are returning from an errand. Pray, what has happened?"
Rolled a dirty 20 for persuasion on character sheet.

OCC How the hell can ye beat that roll!
Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Randrak approaches the dwarves with open arms, "I think we're all good soldiers here. So why don't you let us in and we can help where we can?"

"Brothers, be at ease. We were looking into some missing Clerics. Sadly they have gone to the gods. What has transpired here? How can we help?"
