While attempting to conceal his face, Oran accidentally drops his hood, revealing his pointed ears and accentuated Elvish features to the man in the shop. The man's eyes go wide, and he instantly reaches for the strange stick lying next to him. With flaring temples and a distinct vein pulsing in his head, he turns to point it towards the strange figure in front of him. However, he hears Doe'Tana's words, and sees him plink three gold coins down onto the front counter. He lowers the item he is holding, and rapidly glances between the two people - no, things - that stand in front of him. He mutters something under his breath, and says; "Well, I'll be damned." He picks up and examines the coins that have been placed down. "I must be crazy." Glancing at Oran, he pockets the coins, and says; "Take anything you'd like. Maps, drinks, anything." After that, he makes his way over to a stool behind the counter, and sits down, interlocking his fingers and resting his head, muttering this and that. Quietly, he picks up something attached to the wall - a thin, flat handle connects what seems to be two lobes of cream-colored material. A strangely looped cord connects the bottom lobe to the wall. A curious warbling sound follows, and you can hear him muttering quietly, as if he is talking to someone.
Baragon/Arnold/Ciradyl, whichever one of you is peering from the vegetation, make a Stealth check. So far, nothing has changed.

As Ciradyl walks out, Baragon grips his pendant of a four-winged helm and whispers something. "You are destined for greater glory, not to be harmed here."
She feels a sense of comfort at those words, though clearly not from a mundane nature. There is a shimmering glow surrounding her, she feels that she is more difficult to harm now.
He turns his head and holds out a hand to Arnold, signalling him to stay back.

Initially shocked after accidentally slipping his hood off and the man reaching for the metal rod, Oran's shock dissipates as Doe'Tana is able to negotiate with him. "Anything? Anything at all?" he asks the shopkeeper, stunned that a mere three gold pieces could possibly buy them the entire store. But he can't miss this opportunity. He goes up and down the aisles, perusing them and occasionally taking a bag or two of what seems especially interesting to him, before placing them into his backpack, hopefully without the shopkeeper noticing. (Sleight of Hand: 13) Oran is also going to snag a map or two from the counter the shopkeeper previously specified, hoping that they're easier to read than the one he'd found. "Did you make sure that one of those wasn't your clairvoyance coin?" he hurriedly asks Doe'Tana when they prepare to leave.
(OOC: Apology accepted. We all have those days. Feel free to choose which items Oran takes from the store. He wouldn't know what any of these items are, but I as the player would.)

Doe'Tana nods to Oranand begins to talk, but glancing at the shop keeper he seems to hesitate. Instead he again mindlinks with Oran. "Something that important I wouldn't throw in with my normal spending money. I am not sure I trust our host. Who is he talking to? Now that we have the map let's grab what supplies we can and get out of here quick. You grabbed some food items it seems? That's good. I can take care of our water needs so long as we don't drink our last drop. Let's go before he decides to go back on his word."

On his way to the exit he gives a once over of the shelves to see if there is anything that jumps out as particularly interesting or useful.
Investigation: 15 + 3 = 23 (OOC: Nice result! I will hold off to see if there is anything on the shelves that catches my eye before I actually make a true exit).
Baragon, Arnold, and Cirdayl, you notice one of these large objects - peculiarly, in a rather alluring shade of blue - slow down as it passes you. Moving to the right, it gradually stops as it approaches your side of the passageway. Curiously, it seems to have two eyes at the back of it, glowing a shimmering shade of red, which flicker off as what seems to be a Human male in rather decent clothing emerge from the object, look around, and begin walking to your direction.
Cirdayl, with that Perception roll, you notice some kind of cloud, or possibly white-colored smoke, arise from a direction to your right. As you are glancing around, you notice various poles stationed at long intervals, connected about twenty feet above you by long, black rope.
Oran, with that roll, you hurriedly and haphazardly reach around into the nearest and most glaring options you can see. You nab onto a small packet from a small basket lying on the counter that is red and seems to contain several rustling objects inside; by reading it, two characters of what look like the letter "M" are affixed on the labeling of the package. You also reach into the secluded shelf inside the back of the room, and take out a singular bottle of a very vibrant orange-colored liquid. It is strangely cold.
Doe'Tana, you manage to peer around and quickly analyze your surroundings, surmising that the more important artifacts would be around or near where the man is standing, or in the back of the shop. You lift off what seems to be a piece of folded paper from a rack of similar items, which has what you can distinguish to be a map of the surrounding area on it. You additionally snatch what looks like a darkly tinted, flattened, and elongated pair of spectacles from a rotating stand. Heading to the back, you pick out another bottle of material, that has a more rigid shape and a brown-colored liquid inside it, with an ornate and wonderfully red cap crowning the material. Scanning the aisles, you lift off what seems to be a small model of the objects you saw the Humans enter and exit outside the store, thinking that it may lend clues to the nature of the objects.
You exit the store, with the man still hurriedly speaking into the object he is, a dazed look on his face as he watches the strange figures leave the store.
Baragon continues watching this scene while hidden, his body tense and ready to break into a charge if need be. He also changes his signal to one upraised palm, as if saying 'be ready to move.'
Doe'Tana breathes a sigh of relief as they make it out of the store without incident. He had been hoping to exit with a little more information, but perhaps it went as well as could be expected.
So, we have some maps to examine...and a few other strange items. Do we try to secret ourselves away in the woods again to examine our haul and determine a plan from there? Or do you perhaps have an idea of what we should attempt next?
Oran keeps a wary eye on the shopkeeper as he pulls his hood back up and exits the store. I probably think it's wiser to keep away from these humans -- they seem to want to keep away from us, he suggests. But that's strange -- back at Waterdeep humans are generally accepting of other races. Why the sudden change? But that's beside the point. The point is, we are in a strange place, and in a strange time, where we definitely don't blend in. So we should definitely secrete ourselves again, before we have another run-in with these strange humans.
ciradyl turns back to where her friends are hiding before the human gets out of the box with blinking red lights. she gives them a nod and steady herself not moving from their sight and continues to play until the person is close enough to her for combat purposes just incase.
as she puts down her flute she puts on the airs of shyness and tucks a piece of hair behind her ear and says in as close of common as possible to what they heard before, "hello. I'm sorry I'm new to this *looks around* area, and am quite lost, could you help?"
Oran and Doe'Tana, you head back into the trail you previously exited from. I will have a map for you shortly. You gradually begin to notice an increase in the amount of vehicles hurtling down the linear clearing in front of you. The misty morning air gives way to a rather warm mid-morning air that promises a sweltering day ahead, accentuated by the lack of clouds in the brilliantly blue sky.
However, you do notice several things. Both of you, please make a Stealth check if you are attempting to remain concealed in the underbrush. After a minute or two of observing your surroundings, you see three of these objects - two painted in black and blue, a third larger one painted entirely black - slow down and enter the area under the building you have recently left. Two humans exit the respective smaller vehicles, clad in shiny blue outfits, and head inside the store. Two other humans, both clad in rather cleanly cut black uniforms and wearing the same pair of glasses Doe'Tana had previously picked up, exit the larger vehicle, glance at their surroundings, and follow the two other men inside.
(DM stuff; 21)
Ciradyl, as you see the man approaching, you notice some things about his attire that could be interesting. He's wearing what seems to be a leather jacket and blue, raggedy pants, but otherwise, he seems to be in good condition.
At the remarks of what you said, he responds with; "Sure, ma'am, I'd be happy to give you a lift to wherever you're headed. May I ask how you-" upon where he abruptly stops. Noticing your rather unhuman visage and pointed ears, his mouth glances open and eyes go wide. Nervously glancing around and back, he starts stumbling backwards. "Is this some kind o' joke?"
Hearing the tone of his voice she gets startled and backs up a bit frightened. With a shaky voice she says "Joke, this no joke. Please sir, I apologize if I have frightened you. But I am a traveler of time, I am lost and need help. This land is completely different from my home and . . ."She looks around and pulls her hood over her head to hide her ears "Do you not even have elves in this land?"
"I concur. Though, did you notice those black-clothed individuals were wearing devices like this? I wonder if they convey some kind of magical effect."
Doe'Tana slips the dark circles of glass? over his eyes and looks at Oran. "Well, you look like you are standing in shade. But I can't really determine anything else. More study may be needed. Let's go."
Hiking up the small slope between the dark rock pathway and the treeline, Doe'Tana walks between the trees and begins searching for an out of the way place where they can inspect the rest of their items. The shade of the trees makes it difficult for him to see through the dark circles, so he removes them again for the time being.

'This human shows the same reaction as the others, as if cut from the same cloth. No mental fortitude... Their core is so soft. Have they lost the adaptability of the humans in our time?' He thinks to himself. He glances at Arnold, obviously concerned and this human's poor reaction. There's also a hint of disappointment in his amber eyes.
Arnold stares ahead in silence. He notices Baragon's glance, but doesn't appear to react. He does, however, think to himself; "Interesting... It is common for others to react to me like that, but Ciradyl is an Elf. Not a scary, war-worn warforged like myself... Her show with the mystical music stick was so intriguing, and many people liked it! So why is this person reacting as if they saw a frightening monster?"
