The character's classes: Rogue <Scout> 4/Warlock <Celestial> 3
The character's faction: Harpers Retired
How the character came to partner with the other heroes in the ownership of their new tavern. Roland is a grizzled, for a halfling, retired army scout/adventurer. Upon hearing of the party looking for a new business partner. Roland would have offered to buy into a portion of the risk from his considerable pension from the Cormyrean Army. Roland was looking forward to hanging up his adventuring gear to enjoy his retirement in peace; but fates often decide otherwise. As the party needs arise, Roland will take arms once more to defend his investment and new comrades.
For the villian below:
The character's name: Ryza Redmane <New identity.>
The character's race: Variant Human <Wizard Rituals>
The character's class: Rogue <Inquisitive> 3/Fighter <Eldritch Knight> 4
The character's faction: former Zhentarim
How the character knows the Black Blades and came to replace their missing number (who I will write out by having him arrested): Ryza is a disgruntled former soldier of Cormyr, he was the quartermaster for his company. The same company that Roland served in with distinction. He had a position of power within the unit and within the Black Network, all with minimum effort and risk with maximum rewards. He was reporting on unit movements, stealing supplies for local agents, and eliminating threats. He even had a small group if minor agents assigned to him. His life was perfect. And then came the meddling halfling. Roland was involved in an investigation that led to Ryza being discovered as a traitor/spy in the unit. When he was found out the Zhents burned him. He was a wanted man by the Cormyreans and the Zhents. He fled with only his prepared go-bag of portable gems, papers, spellbook, etc. He blames Roland and has been tracking him down for the past 3 years. He will see the meddling halfling dead for exposing him and ruining his perfect life. Ryza knows the benefits of working with allies. He would strike an alliance with any criminal elements that could aid in his revenge. For Roland Farstrider must die!

Good- Elliot - Human - Light Cleric - Order of the Gauntlet
Elliot grew up as an innkeeper’s son. While he always wanted to serve the light of lythander, he also has had a special place in his heart for taverns. Recently, he’s heard about these tavern owners who are making way down the Dungeon of the Mad Mage and could not have come up with something more perfect for himself. He’s going to try to get them to see his worth in the tavern and then show them how Lythander strengthens him enough to assist in the delving of dangerous places. He hopes if he does well enough, he can buy in to part ownership of the tavern.
Cunning used to be an engineer of weaponscraft marvels. Catapults that could fire much more rapidly, shields which could be used to electrify opponents, and magical scopes which could be used for targeting ballista with extraordinary accuracy. That is, until his patron tried to steal his designs to sell them out from under him. Cunning was left running, and took most of his designs with him. The patron made claims he was a murderer and thief, making him a wanted man. Cunning is now compelled to exact his revenge. Against so powerful a patron, that means finding allies and rare materials. Cunning also knows that the Iron Golem’s power source would be invaluable for his own weapon, the Pile Driver, a heavy armor magic suit.
Sorry for the delay, everyone. As always, these things are hard to choose from. Honestly, everyone would fit in to the campaign in one way or another. But...well, I have to choose. I am inviting DragonDenn to join this time. Thanks everyone for your interest!

I was under the impression we were supposed to wait until we were chosen to roll up characters fully. Am I wrong?

No, believe you have it right. In the first post the DM said the character would be rolled up once they were picked.
Rolling up characters is fun but I didn't want to waste anyone's time on it either!
