The group enters a small settlement with three smaller tents and one larger tents. The walls are reinforced with timber in an obvious attempt to strengthen them from something on the outside. Looking around, the group only observes about 10 people. Once Francis scurries inside, the door is slammed shut quickly and is barricaded shut. At the larger tent, a man stands with the flap open and invites them in. The group obliges and comes into the tent..
Once inside the tent, they see bedding for 6 people and a single person sitting at the fire in the center of the tent. The smoke billows up from the rush of air of the tent opening and heads towards a tiny hole at the top of the tent. Once the group enters, the man at the door closes the flap and joins them around the fire. He introduces himself "Greetings, I am Truesdale, first mate of the destroyed ship at the dock and this is Ines, former head maiden at the Sinbell Estate."
The group looks to the two...
Truesdale has ed, short hair that is pulled back to reveal a lean, tense face. Gray eyes that have been isolated for so long watch the group find their positions in the room. Fire has left a mark stretching from the bottom of the left cheekbone , running towards his left nostril and ending under his right eye leaves an aching burden of battles past.
Ines has chestnut, short hair that slightly covers a full, lived-in face. She stands with her narrow frame and bows to the group looking up with gentle black eyes. There's something charming about her, perhaps it's her fortunate past or perhaps it's something more, nonetheless, the group gathers around and Truesdale begins to speak..
"Welcome, I am sure the Baron has sent you for us to find us. Trust me when I say, we were not expecting to be here this long either. This island..." He turns to Ines and apologizes ".. sorry but you know this is true, is cursed. There is not much we can do here. We must repair your ship and head back as soon as possible..."
Ines interrupts him and says "We can't leave without trying to save them! They may still be alive Truesdale!"
Truesdale shows a frown upon his face and says "They have been gone for weeks now.. you know there is no chanc.."
Ines says "There is a chance! You cursed this Estate with crown that you gave to Master Sinbell!"
An awkward silence fills the room.
Truesdale turns to the adventurers and says "We had no idea that this would happen.."
Truesdale sighs and begins to explain that this Island used to be part of the material realm. Sinbell always had an eye for exquisite items and asked the Baron to find him the Crown of Theynore, however the crown was cursed. Upon placing it on his head, this entire island phased into the Shadowfell and cursing this whole island...
Dead began to walk and the mansion is now sealed with a magical seal that will not allow anyone to enter unless it is broken. The Captain they seek never left the mansion and held off two gargoyles that attacked them as they fled. His fate is presumed deceased. (1)
After the incident, most of the crew and the housing staff has been abducted and carried off by a figure they call the Cryptrider. He rides a skeletal steed at night commanding the undead and has made many attempt to break into this settlement. The believe he returns to the graveyard every night and that he exits from the Sinbell Crypt. (2)
The settlement has been stealing food from the Sinbell farm to the east, although it has become over run with undead horrors now and is considered too dangerous to return. However, food supplies are running low and there might be survivors hiding at the camp. (3)
The undead seem to have a fear of bright lights, perhaps if the group was able to retrieve the enchanted light from the light house to the west, they would be able to help the settlement defend itself and expand slightly for finding repairs for the ship. (4)
Unknown woods lie to the north and quickly turn into desolate swamp. Ines explains that even before this island came to the Shadowfell, those woods were off limits and rumors spread around the house that it was haunted. (5)
Truesdale also explains that their ship was also attacked by sea serpent when they tried to escape. However, it only seemed about disabling their ship and forcing them back to the island. Perhaps there is something more to the coincidence in the attacks.. (?)
Cenny looks questioningly and inquires about quest 4.
“We need to ensure a secure home before worrying about going on the offense. This enchanted light sounds to be our most critical priority. Tell me more of this enchanted light. Is it a lantern or some very large flame in the top of the lighthouse? I’m trying to determine how we would transport such a thing.”
Ines explains to Cenny "The rocks on the southwest of the island have always been a danger to the ships coming and going to the island. Sinbell enlisted a group of Sun elves to create a radiant artifact to shine bright radiant energy to warn ships. They forged the item called the "Tear of the Sun". It is a small crystal no bigger than the size of your fist and sat at the top of the tower. The item has to absorb sunlight throughout the day to shine brightly at night but the numbers are too thin to try and find the Tear in the ruins of the lighthouse."
Tiriel bows and then facepalms and shakes his head as the zombie is negotiated into the settlement. He listens to the list of quests and remarks in agreement with Cenny, "I think defeating this Cryptrider before he can take any more of the people here and securing food to survive on are certainly the most important, but I agree that it would be hard to do so without a proper weapon, and this light might do the trick. Then we could move to take the farm and look for survivors, maybe fighting off or killing this cryptrider."
grumpy herman sits in the corner tending to francis’s face arrows
”no respect for the dead, no respect at all...”
herman rips out the remaining arrow.
”there! lookin sharp as ever francis.”. *Yaaawn* “this old bag’o’bones needs a nap”
herman rummages around in his sack retrieving a worn piece of chalk. the old man circles a perimeter on the ground chanting as he marks ancient symbols. he takes a step back, recites a final incantation as a black dome snaps into existence.
Tiriel seems genuinely torn on whether or not he wants to sleep with a necromancer or among this crazy town for a few minutes, but eventually resigns to join the necromancer.
Tolstoy walks over and picks up the discarded arrows from Francis's skull. He winks at Herman before joining him in the tiny hut.
"A man on a thousand mile walk has to forget his goal and say to himself every morning, 'Today I'm going to cover twenty-five miles and then rest up and sleep.'"
during the long rest, herman takes some time to study and acclimate himself to the necrotic energies of the shadowfell. his magic seems heightened in this world, and he aims to understand how.

41 encounter
The group lays down and attempts to rests, however 6 hours later, they here noises out... It starts out as muffled yelling but slowly the group can hear "HERE THEY COME! EVERYONE TO YOUR POSITIONS!"
The group remains inside the tiny hut for now. The group has not been able to fully long rest, however they have short rested. The group can continue to rest if they choose.
The group comes outside to find the guards on the lookout near the rear wall (opposite from where they came in). The group climbs the wall to see four ghouls and three zombies heading towards the wall. The guard says need not to fear. They won't be able to breach the wall. We should be safe as long as we keep the door closed.
A few moments later, the group hears a yell from the opposite wall...
"RUN AWAY THEY HAVE THE SHIP!"
Looking out the front door they see two humanoid figures, one with a white thin hand, running towards them.
They yell at the "LET US IN!"
The guard at the gate turns as Truesdale shakes his head. "We cannot let them in! Who knows who or what they are."
The two are about 80 feet from the settlement door.
Cenny shape changes and his hair goes away as he transforms back into half-elf form.
"They are our crew. You do not have to open the gate but they are indeed coming in. Be right back."
Cenny's skin becomes feathers as he uses his final wild shape to transform into a Giant Vulture with a carrying capacity of 450. He will fly out and pick up one man in each claw and fly back.
On Cenny's approach to pick them up, he sees two giant skeletons chasing them about 50 feet behind. He attempts to pick up the two with each claw while running...
Cenny opens his eyes inside the fortress. What does he see?
