Cedar nods "We better set watches. It wouldn't be good to be caught unawares, especially in these woods."
He heads about ten feet away from the camp, and scales a tree, planning to take first watch "I will wake whoever decides to be next in about four hours." He pulls out his bedroll and drapes it over a thick branch, then plops himself upon it. He re-strings his bow, and pulls a few arrows out of his quiver, lightly digging them into the trunk so that he has an easy way to reach them. He sits patiently, waiting for night to fall properly, and looking out for any signs of danger.
“I could take a look at what those birds are circling. I know how to go unnoticed in the dark, and can escape very easily. I’d be back in about an hour judging by the distance.”
(Mechanically Helena is invisible in darkness to creatures with darkvision. And has misty step to get away quick.)
Caine listens to what the others say, contemplating what circling birds may indicate and the time of day.
"They may be circling someone who is injured," he says, thoughts of his brother creeping into his conscious.
"Investigating now would be wise. But traveling that path alone could end up with the birds circling you next," he says to Helena.
"I am unlikely to be as adept as you, but I grew up in the woods, and hiding in them and moving quickly through them are in my blood," he says. "If you would have company, I can watch your back."
"With bandits around I think setting camp here, and staying here, is our best bet." Nolla interjects. "Those birds could mean anything from a dead deer to a bandit's camp. No way to know, and no reason to go there until it is daylight again."
“The reason would be the possibility of danger. Better to find it than to have it seek us out with it being so close. We do not want to be surprised at this time of day.” Helena figures this might be dangerous, and danger is better left dead.
"At a campsite, where we have light, the rest of us can actually be of use." Nolla points out. "Out there..." She gestures to the darkening woods. "Those of us who cannot see in darkness will be unable to do much more than die." She shrugs. "What good does that do anyone but the few here who can see in darkness?" She asks. "Let us rest here this night, dealing with anything that seeks us out, then see what this is in our full strength in the light of day."
Helena sighs. “Very well. Most of us can see in the dark, but I will stay. Let us hope that no one needed help.” She starts to set up camp. “If Caine takes first watch, and Tam takes the last, I will take the middle.”
The party sets up camp for the night in a small, relatively untainted grove close to the Road. The sun falls, and after the light dies, darkness finally has dominion over the forest. A chill settles in as the warmth in the air bleeds away.
(Are you guys making a fireplace? The season, which changes periodically, is currently Fall. You will not be physically affected for not making a fire, but is quite cold and dark.)
Huddled in camp, the party consumes their fill of rations- the exertions of adventuring produces quite a hunger. Afterwards, a system of watches is organized for the night. Those on watch, please make a Perception check and state which watch you are on.

Nolla would set up a fire, but would not light it. It is there in case of an attack, to get some light in the area so those without the ability to see in the dark can function.
If nothing terrible and/or scary happens, Cedar climbs down from his perch after his watch is over. He walks over to Caine, gently shaking him awake, and takes another spot in the camp. He settles down, but finds himself unable to sleep for a while, plagued by dreams of his town and his family. Eventually he settles into a restless slumber.

Watch 3: Perception 23 (Can also see 90ft w/darkvision)
Helena wakes up, relieves Caine to let them sleep, and settles down in the shadows to watch over the camp. She can’t stop thinking about the circling birds, imagining what, or who it could have been.
Tam spends long moments staring at the dark shape of the unlit fire wondering if he has made a series of terrible mistakes before wrapping himself up tight in his cloak and huddling against a tree and trying to sleep.
The Corrupted Forest grows more insidious in the darkness. In the unnatural silence, Cedar takes the first watch. He keeps a vigilant eye out for any threats, but nothing appears to approach the grove at the time. He wakes up Caine and returns to bed.
Caine sits alone, watching over his companions while thoughts of his brother plague his mind. Thus, he fails to notice the sound of snapping branches behind the grove. The noise of a low, inhuman growl evades him. Only when musky scent of rot and decay waft over him when Caine realizes something is upon the party.
A roar sounds out behind him and as Caine turns around, a monstrous creature is rushing towards him! It may have once been a humble brown bear, but it's desiccated body is covered in mushrooms. It's exposed ribcage reveals maggots slithering among the fungal tumors that have grown inside it's body. Two milky white eyes stare down the monk, and Caine begins to choke as he is immersed in the unnatural rotten abyss that has spawned the creature.
Meanwhile, the roar is enough to wake up the rest of the party. Thrust from fitful dreams, they awaken to the sight of a nightmarish abomination before them!
(@Those with the darkvision to see it, Wisdom Saving Throw or gain 2 Stress).
The abhorrent animal releases spores into the air, and they are exposed to the sickening corruption of the fungal madness.

(Everyone is free to post in any order, but except for Cedar their actions will occur after the creature's second turn.)
Tam peers into the encroaching darkness under the trees and says quietly,
"I would prefer to camp before it gets any darker."

"I believe the decision on first watch has already been taken," he says. "But I will happily stand second."
He looks over at Tam, and the bundle of nerves that he is.
"If you take the third and Jaesali takes the last watch, we can let those without the vision of our kind to sleep through the night."
Cedar gives a mock salute from his bird's perch.
