Derivar has suffered from both the Eternal Night and The Corrupt for what is now three years. Many adventurers have tried to slay The Corrupt, but any who faced him, fell. Legend has been going about for years, saying only those who find the Rubies of Light will be able to power through The Corrupt's dark influence, but no one has ever discovered them, their location shrouded in mystery.
A group of five arrives at what remains of Derivar Castle, all that's left is piles of stone bricks, and debris of wood supports and arches. All is surrounded by a moat of clear water. Standing in the middle of the rubble is a woman. She is dressed in silk jade robes, shimmering in the "moon"light. A golden crown with eight sapphires wraps around the top of her head, contrasting noticeably with her brown hair. Sort of grimly, she says "Welcome to Derivar castle... or, what remains of it. I am Queen Amber, and you must be here to deal with The Corrupt, are you?"
Gorokum eyes the rubble and woman standing in the middle of it with suspicion. What sort of queen stands amidst all of this with no retinue or guard, he thinks to himself. He also takes in the other four who arrived here at about the same time. Their kind have never been friends of his people. Humans and halflings have often hunted hobgoblins. But this lion person is an unknown to him. He has never encountered one of them before.
But, he thinks, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. For now.
"I would destroy it before it harms my people again," Gorokum intones, tapping his intricately carved quarterstaff on the ground in time with his words. "What do you know of it?"
"I would destroy it before it harms my people again," Gorokum intones, tapping his intricately carved quarterstaff on the ground in time with his words. "What do you know of it?"
"I know very little of it. From what I heard, it's made its lair inside Flashing Mountains." She points over at the mountain in the far distance. Lights of many pale colors coming out of it "I've also heard it occasionally comes out of its lair to hunt for my people, as well as travelers, either he kills them or transforms them with that awful bite of his. When traveling, please take caution."
Basina looks at the queen with admiration as she falls to one knee.
”Do not fear my lady. Though we may be strangers I can assure you we will do everything in our might to cleanse the lands of this horrid creature” she says trying to sound as noble as she can.

"Have you any soldiers that might assist us, your majesty?" Gorokum asks. He is not yet sure of the other four that stand before the queen. He will need to see how they handle themselves before deciding what kind of soldiers they will make.
As he speaks he looks skyward as a black crow circles overhead.
Basina tried to get a better look at her new companions by sideway glances. They were an odd group of adventures, nothing like the paladins she was used to work with. But who were she to judge anyone? As long as they could take care of them self and handel them self in a fight she would welcome their company.

She lets out a long sigh "Our soldiers were driven mad by the Eternal Night. Some fell under The Corrupt's influence, others believed they were werewolves, those who remained scattered across the kingdom. In any of the ways, they serve us no longer."
This kingdom is dead, Gorokum thinks to himself. The queen just does not see it yet. But this thing, this Corrupt must be stopped before it spreads to his homeland.
He turns from the queen to the other four.
"I am Gorokum," he says. "Of the Red Claw. Whatever this thing is, it's a threat to us all and it must be stopped."
He pauses for a moment, thinking about what the queen has said, and then continues.
"I have encountered werewolves before. From what I recall, they could only be defeated by magic or silver. It would be best if you have either."
He turns his attention back to the queen.
"Are there roads to the mountain? Trails? Can one approach unseen?"
"Are there roads to the mountain? Trails? Can one approach unseen?"
"Yes, to reach the mountains, follow the Red Dirt Road, you'll know it when you see it. Heed this warning, if you fight The Corrupt without a Ruby of Light, you will fall under his influence like all the other fallen adventurers, doing so without them is a huge mistake. The shops still remain open in town, the blacksmith should be able to silver your weapons."
Basina stands up and looks up at the hobgoblin that had introduced himself as Gorokum. He spoke with determination she thought.
”I am Basina Fairfoot, you speak true. I’m for one are happy to have a companion that have faced these creatures before.” She glances to the morningstar in her belt
“I think it will look just as intimidating steeped in silver” she says to no one.

"I suspect the blacksmith will not also have a Ruby of Light," Gorokum says. "Does her majesty know where we may find one?"
She puts a hand over her face "The Rubies of Light are artifacts of legend, no one has been able to collect one, and I have no idea where they are." (Did you read the introduction?)
Gorokum bows his head slightly to the queen. Turning and looking at the Leonin who just spoke, he merely shakes his head. Perhaps it does not speak common, Gorokum thinks to himself.
"We are searching for something that may or may not exist and have no idea where to begin," he says to the others. "I suggest we go into the town to at least gild any weapons needed with silver and perhaps find older members of the community that may know more about the legend."
With that he taps his staff three times on the ground and the black crow that had been circling overhead, swoops down low and flies ahead of Gorokum in slow circles as he starts walking towards the town.
Upon leaving the castle ruins, you immediately arrive in the town square. Everything in the square is a gloomy grey, only slightly brighter than the black sky, the smell of charcoal fills the air. five shops lay in a row in front of you; the shop on the far left is a medium-sized tavern called "The Copper Oracle", for a tavern, only whispers are coming out. The left shop is a small, stone-brick store with the name "Tailor's Place" above it, the store feels comforting compared to the rest of the kingdom. The middle shop is a stone-brick temple with two beautiful stained glass windows on both sides of the entrance, one depicts Bahamut, the good dragon god, the other depicts Tiamat, the evil dragon goddess. The store on the right is an even smaller store with "Blacksmith written above the entryway, flying sparks are the only light coming out of the store. The far-right store is a medium-sized wooden shop called "Magic Tricks and Traps, faint and weird noises appear to be coming out of this store.
