Ioben breathes a little freer as he learns the identity of the masked man. Still, there was plenty to do today, starting with that book. It was great having the treasure they sought, but if they didn't know how to use them, what good were they. Hoping up off the ground, Ioben checked around the camp for the book so he could have a closer look.
Ioben - You located the old chest with the familiar emblem on the side. However, when you lift the lid you notice both the book and the key are missing.
The world was a haze. Try as he might, Sandu saw his surroundings as if peering through a mist: everything did not seem quite solid with contours disappearing into a blur. What was not a blur of colours disappeared into the shadows on the walls and floor. Sandu's mouth felt dry. His lips were cracked and his tongue laid heavy behind his teeth. His nose picked up the unlikely scent of petrichor but there was something else mixed in with the earthy smell. It smelled like copper. Is that blood? His mind was having trouble forming a cohesive thought
Sandu shifted his body upright. It was dark. Too dark. But had morning not yet passed? To his side was a line of light piercing the wall of shadows around him. His eyes adjusted. And when he saw what was in front of him, Sandu bolted towards the light. Air! I need air! A patch of soft cloth struck him across the face as he stumbled past the darkness into the outside
'Help! I need help!'Sandu was pale as a corpse. Beads of sweat rested heavy upon his brow. 'There's something wrong! Madam Eva, she's-'
That was all he could manage to yell before his knees and hands hit the ground. Or rather, knees and hand: for in his left hand Sandu clutched a book against his chest. The key was stuck in the lock but otherwise unturned. What meagre content Sandu had for breakfast went upwards into his mouth and onto the soil below, yet his stomach did not stop convulsing. Several thick globs of bile streaked the grass yellow before Sandu could stop shivering and wipe his mouth with the cuff of his sleeve.
Ioben had just opened the box when he heard Sandu’s cry for help. Confused by the empty box, yet come ncerned for his companion, he let the lid drop closed as he raced toward the tent.
> Ioben - You located the old chest with the familiar emblem on the side. However, when you lift the lid you notice both the book and the key are missing.
Peering over Ioben's shoulder, the robed and masked Galqarin realises that the raven statuette lying within the box is made of the same wood as the staff he now holds. Looking closer, he spots a hitherto unnoticed notch carved in the base of the statuette. However, before he can lift it out of the box, he hears Sandu's plaintiff cry...
> 'Help! I need help!'
Rushing over to the convulsing man, prone in his own vomit, Galqarin resolves to provide whatever succour he can ((medicine 21)). "I help you", he breathes through the raven mask. A stray thought flits unbidden through his mind: How did he know he could help?
You spring into action, assisting with Sandu’s ailment as best you can. After you mop away the bile from his mouth you check for any signs of what may have caused the condition; signs of poisoning, sickness, etc. Finding nothing to explain Sandu’s condition your best guess would be that the cause of the ailment is not natural but rather magical.
The camp goes into an uproar at the commotion; a number of Vistani appear from their tents, a camp guard storms into Eva’s tent, a number of people crowd around Sandu and Galqarin. Ismark appears, sword drawn, “Make way! Make way!” He yells as he attempts to make his way to Sandu, no one pays him much heed.
Ireena exclaims to Valerie,“Was that Sandu shouting! We must go Val, he may be in trouble... We might need to make a hasty exit.”
By the time Galqarin has seen to assisting Sandu the guard returns from inside the tent. Visibly shaken he shouts,“Shey, Shey! Come quick - it’s Eva, she needs help!”He turns crouches next to Galqarin,“I am not sure what transpired in there... but it does not look good.” He pauses, struggling to get the words out,“Madam Eva, she’s not responding to anything... There is a pulse, but it’s faint.”
Sandu felt something hairy brush past his face. His eyes glanced down to see a hairy paw wiping away the remnants and bile from his jawline. Galqarin. Sandu thought. He was the only one with such coarse hair and claws after all. He tracked the movement of the arm expecting to see the bugbear standing next to him. Sandu's thoughts turned to confusion when he did not see a bestial visage but rather a raven's face staring back at him. A raven? Sandu's mouth fell slightly open in surprise. Galqarin is part of the feathered ones?
Dormark makes a physical push through the crowd forcing others out of the way gently he says, “What happened here!? is there anyway I can help? I do have some healing prepared today.” Noticing Sandu and the book Dormark shakes his head and stuffs the book under Sandu’s cloak. “Tell me what happened Sandu, to the best of your ability,” says Dormark not angry, but needing quick answers.
> He turns crouches next to Galqarin,“I am not sure what transpired in there... but it does not look good.” He pauses, struggling to get the words out,“Madam Eva, she’s not responding to anything... There is a pulse, but it’s faint.”
Galqarin is in a quandary. He is loathe to leave the group, yet if Eva's condition is as serious as the guard implies, who knows what the Vistani might do to Sandu and the rest of them. Perhaps it is best to see for himself.
"Show me", he tells the guard brusquely, and follows him into the tent.
Galqarin - As you enter the tent you are immediately drawn to the table where Madam Eva is slumped. Her deck of tarroka cards lays spread out in front of her - it is clear that she has recently performed a reading. You notice blood pooled on the table around her mouth. "That's how I found 'er." The guard says, obviously afraid, "What d'ya think happened?"
Galqarin tries his best to analyse the scene and, finding that task pushing the limits of his mental capacity, instead tries to ascertain what ails the old woman. He fears that ill magicks are at work.
It seems clear to you that Madam Eva had been giving a reading at the time. There are 5 cards laid out in a similar manner to the reading she performed yesterday - the first card appears to be the 'Darklord'. It strikes you as it being unusual that the rest of the desk is fanned out in front of her.
Upon inspecting Madam Eva's body you are unable to fully determine what transpired - she appears to be very much alive. You can discern that the blood on the table has come from her mouth, but your check further reveals that there is blood drying near her ears and under her eyes - as though she bled from a number of different regions of her face. You determine that these were likely brought about by immense straining and likely caused by some magical event.
As Galqarin lays his hands on Madam Eva, he feels a surge of energy flow through his arms, causing the hair to stand on end, and into the Vistani ((Hand of Healing: 1+3=4hp)). He spares a glance at the cards, trying his best to remember them. The others will better understand what the cards mean...
These people are not going to be happy with us, Ioben thought as he took in the situation. We arrive in camp and within a day this happens to Madame Eva? Surely this can't be a coincidence.
Looking up from the scene, Ioben decided to check in on Petyr, Shey and Stefan, hoping that they were ok.
Galqarin - As you feel the restorative energy leave your hands you are sure that Eva is in a stable condition, though she remains unconscious.
Looking down at the cards you find the following;
The Darklord, 5 of Stars, 6 of Glyphs, 7 of Stars, 3 of Swords
Valerie - You cast Divine Sense and look over the camp. Nothing immediately grabs your attention until you regard Madam Eva's tent. At which point you get a faint ((cover obscures the sense)) but repugnant smell filling your nostrils. You believe the tent, or something inside, has been recently desecrated.
Ioben - As you set off to check on the others, you find Shey rushing towards Madam Eva's tent - she gives you a fleeting, questioning expression before dashing on. Looking around the camp you fail to see Stefan, but instead find Petyr in the crowd outside of the tent. He waves as you approach,"Oh thank goodness Ioben - when we saw yer friend lyin' there we 'ad wondered about yer. Never known summit like this ta happen. To Eva? No sir. She has powers yer wouldn't believe. 'ow could this 'appen?" He looks at you searchingly.

Baern didn't know what to do as the camp erupted into chaos and was several steps behind Galqarin. By the time he arrived at the tent there was a crowd around Sandu and at the tent door. Seeing that Sandu was still breathing, the dwarf looked around the camp for any strange activity or signs of what had happened that others may have misses.
Valzes coughs a bit from the scent that she gets. She rushes inside the tent and stops at the door. She scans around the tent. "I sense something evil here. Something has been desecrated."
“I don’t know Petyr, our friend was struck down too. Somehow, someone was able to reach them inside the camp. Did you notice anyone, or anything strange last night?”
