Jorah seeing another dragon-kin, is excited, but noting the man's golden scales, puts him on edge. He opts to let Marla do the talking, while he looks around for things worth taking/reading.
Trusting the others to handle book selling, Alexa stays to help clean up before they need to go babysit. She looks deeply content as she goes about cleaning up the mess.
While flowers and lif are distracted, Everyone else notices a very faint noise coming from the walls... Jen and Alexa hear a sound coming from one side if the tap room and Misha hears a faint sound from the other side of the room.
"I am sorry to hear that you have been having a hard time, but if there is one that that can fix a bad day... it's a good book." The dragonborn says with a smile. He looks towards Jorah and gives a friendly smile and nod. "Is there anything I can help you to find?" He asks while gesturing towards the many shelves full of books.
Marla notices that under the dragonborn's shirt there is a faint glow that you assume is coming from an amulet or necklace of some kind. there is also a very ornate bookcase against the a nearby wall with many books and scrolls that glow with varying colors. the bookcase is locked within a large glass display case. you can assume that these are all different spell books, scrolls, and other magical books.
Jorah manages to find a while section of books devoted to dragons. On the top shelf he spots a very old book with gold and silver inlay. The spine if the book is titled "The big book of Bahamut". You cannot see the cover of the book without pulling it from the shelf. Without a nearby ladder you would have to climb the shelf if you want to investigate further
Jorah uses his natural climbing ability to scramble up to the book, calling down to the bookkeep, "Iz good. Foundz it." He tries to pull out the book to open it and see what it is about.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Marla just spends some time browsing / absorbing the atmosphere of the bookstore - she’s not looking for anything in earnest just now. (Will roll an Investigation check with disadvantage as a result)
Back at the tavern, Misha and Alex (and maybe Jen) make their way towards the noise. The sound gets louder as they approach the walls of the tavern and then all of a sudden a curved blade pokes through into the tap room. The blade is only a few inches long and quickly disappears back into the wall. Before any of you have a chance to react, rats start racing into the room from the two holes on opposite ends of the room. What seems like dozens of rats storm in in a matter of seconds.
Roll initiative!
Back at the book store.... Marla makes her way through the store enjoying the smell of the book and the calm environment. Although the library was rather large, it still felt warm and cozy. The noises from the street seem to disappear once inside the book shop and you enjoy your stroll around the establishment. You don't really see anything particularly interesting other than a whole lot of books that you have never read.
Jorah struggles a bit with the book. Once he has it in his hands he realizes just how heavy it is. The kobold strains but is able to climb down the bookshelf and drops the book on the ground with a heavy thud. The entire cover of the book appears to be of crafted from precious metals. On the cover is a platinum dragon with blue sapphires inlayed for the eyes. There is a silver clasp keeping the heavy book shut and when it is unclasped it opens easily. The pages are very old but appear in nearly perfect condition. The thick heavy book does not appear magical to Marla but is obviously very valuable. As Jorah flips through the pages, you can see that the book includes a detailed description of Bahamut's life as if written by someone very close to the mythical dragon. Then the writing of the book changes. The Author seems to be the same but the second half of the book describes the authors search to find Bahamut again. It describes his journey throughout the forgotten realms and describes his battles with colored dragons in his search for an old man surrounded by seven yellow canaries...
When you get to the last page, you realize that the back of the book is even thicker than the cover.
Anyone wanting to investigate the book further needs to roll
"OH! I That is a good read... at least I assume it is." The gold scaled dragonborn says with a smile. "i've always been a fan of Bahamut. The platinum dragon is an inspiration to us all. Since it didn't seem magical I didn't bother locking it up behind my display case... not that there is room in there anyway. I know it's worth quite a bit of coin to be sure so I stuck it on the shelf temporarily until I could find someplace nicer to display it." Rishaal says as he looks down over the kobolds shoulder. "You can look at it but do be careful. It's new and I havn't had the chance to fully examine it yet." He adds before turning to greet a new customer.
As the dragonborn turns away, Jorah notices that some of the pages have pictures of gems in each of the four corners. It is always the same gems and always in the same four corners. When he goes back to the very last page, there are four actual gems embedded in the center of the back of the book (inside the back cover). The gems are the same colors seem to be inlayed in groves that allow the gems to slide around when you touch them.
